Stellantis CEO Says the V-8 Hellcat-Powered Ram TRX Will Return
The return of the V-8 Hellcat-powered TRX has been rumored for a while, and it's expected to be revealed later this year as a 2026 model.
The last TRX had 702 horsepower, but we expect the new engine's output to exceed that figure and possibly surpass the Ford F-150 Raptor R's 720-hp bogey.
Almost as soon as it was announced that the Ram 1500 TRX would be discontinued after the 2024 model year, rumors started circulating about the high-performance pickup truck's eventual return. While things looked a little dicey when Ram stopped offering the beloved Hemi V-8 in its half-ton trucks, the TRX's revival got an adrenaline shot to the heart earlier this year when we learned that the eight-cylinder engines were making a comeback. And now Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa has confirmed that the Ram TRX will rise from the dead.
During an earnings call yesterday, Filosa said that, ". . . the V-8 engine on versions such as the Ram 1500 TRX will deliver to us additional volumes." Perhaps the new CEO forgot that an official announcement about the TRX's return hadn't yet been made, or perhaps he simply knew that the Hellcat-powered truck's resurrection was one of the worst-kept secrets in the biz. Car and Driver reached out to a Ram spokesperson for comment on what Filosa said, and the rep told us that the CEO's comments stand.

While Filosa didn't say anything about a timeline for when the TRX would be revealed or when it would go into production, it has been rumored that it will join the Ram 1500 lineup for the 2026 model year. As for details about its powertrain, the new TRX will have a version of the iron-block supercharged 6.2-liter V-8, which last made 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. Of course, the former figure will most likely be higher.
Currently, the Ford F-150 Raptor R features a 720-hp supercharged 5.2-liter V-8. We'd wager that the 2026 Ram TRX will exceed that output, even if it's only by a horsey or two. And let's not forget the Hellcat Redeye, which could summon over 800 ponies.

5 dead, 1 injured after head-on crash, vehicle fires in Grand County: CSP
DENVER (KDVR) — The Colorado State Patrol said five people inside an SUV were declared dead after an early Monday morning crash in Grand County after both vehicles caught fire from a head-on crash. The crash happened around 7 a.m. Monday and involved two vehicles, a Ford F-150 and a GMC Yukon, on Colorado 9 in Grand County between Ute Pass Road and Kremmling, according to a CSP press release. The driver of the Yukon was determined to be a 34-year-old man from Kremmling and was pronounced dead at the scene. 'All occupants of the SUV were pronounced dead on the scene,' CSP said. 'Due to the extensive damage and fire to this vehicle, first responders are unable to confirm the number of occupants at this time.' The other four occupants of the Yukon were pronounced dead at the scene and have not been identified. CSP said the investigation into the crash is ongoing, and no charges have been brought against either driver. The Grand County Coroner's Office will identify the proper next of kin for the deceased individuals. CSP is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact CSP dispatch at 970-249-4392 and reference number VC25269. UAW Faction Seeks to Oust President Fain in Sign of Union Unrest
A group of United Auto Workers members is seeking to oust President Shawn Fain ahead of an election next year, a sign of frustration among some in the two years since the labor group secured landmark contracts with US automakers. Workers at a Stellantis NV truck factory in suburban Detroit and an engine plant in southeast Michigan voted over the weekend to start the union's process to remove its leader, said two UAW members involved with the effort. Green-on-green 1971 Chevrolet Corvette LS6 convertible heads to auction
Today's Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and ZR1X have taken "America's sports car" to new performance heights, but in the waning days of the golden age of muscle cars, enthusiasts were being catered to with cars like this 1971 Corvette convertible with the legendary LS6 big-block V8. Part of Mecum Auctions' 2025 Monterey Car Week sale, this car is one of just 50 LS6 convertibles built (plus 138 coupes), according to the auction house. That engine is numbers-matching, and the car wears a distinctive combination of Brands Hatch Green paint and a green leather interior, which should help it stand out among the many desirable lots at the various Car Week auctions. By the turn of the decade, the muscle car boom of the 1960s was on borrowed time. Rising insurance rates and gas prices were on the horizon, making 1971 more or less the end of an era. But it was also the year the Corvette got the LS6, which had debuted in 454-cubic-inch form in the Chevelle for the 1970 model year as Chevy's ultimate big-block engine. In the Corvette, the LS6 was rated at 425 horsepower-down 25 hp from the Chevelle due to a lower 9.0:1 compression ratio-and 475 lb-ft of torque. Car and Driver published a zero to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 13.8 seconds in its June 1971 issue. Those numbers aren't that remarkable today, but they were seismic in 1971. This car has a Muncie M22 "Rock Crusher" four-speed manual transmission and an optional Positraction limited-slip differential with a 4.11:1 ratio, plus power brakes, the F41 HD suspension, and an upgraded ZR2 radiator. It also has a removable hardtop in the grained black vinyl typical of the 1970s. In 1971 the LS6 option cost $1,221 over the Corvette's $5,496 base price, according to Mecum. That made it a fairly costly option, contributing to the low production run of just 188 LS6 Corvettes, including both coupes and convertibles. In addition to its rarity, this convertible shows just 29,889 miles on its odometer and appears to be in good condition. However, the listing claims it's being sold with the original whitewall tires (on 15-inch Rally wheels), which would obviously need to be replaced to make this car a driver. It's likely the person pays the estimated $90,000-$100,000 Mecum expects this car to sell for will stash it away to wait for its value to appreciate more, however. That estimated price range is a relative bargain for a classic Corvette in a desirable spec. A C7 ZR1 recently went up for sale with an asking price of $185,000, for example. That's perhaps due to the number of low-volume performance versions of the Corvette that Chevrolet built over the years.
