Amit Shah's speech in Madurai abominable, divisive and misleading: DMK leader A. Raja
DMK deputy general secretary and the Nilgiris MP, A. Raja, on Monday (June 9, 2025), said the speech of senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Madurai on Sunday was nothing but 'an utter lie, a pledge for divisive politics, and abominable vengeance.'
Speaking to reporters in Chennai, he said it was unbecoming of a Home Minister to forget his position, duty, and responsibility by making baseless allegations aimed at creating communal divisions and inciting unrest in a peaceful State governed by an opposition party, for political gain.
'His speech was abominable and does not augur well for federalism or the smooth relationship between the State and the Centre,' Mr. Raja said, reiterating his belief that the people of Tamil Nadu would not be swayed by Mr. Shah's 'cheap tactics and politically motivated speech.'
Mr. Raja claimed the BJP government at the Centre was unable to digest the development and progress achieved by the DMK government under the leadership of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who has ensured the continuation of welfare schemes and development projects using state funds, as the Centre has failed to allocate funds on time.
'The Centre and the BJP have enacted a shameful drama in violation of political decency because they cannot stomach the State's growth. This does not reflect well on Amit Shah and his position as Union Home Minister. He should stop such political games,' he contended.
Rejecting the suggestion that Mr. Shah's visit to Tamil Nadu had been a 'shock' to the DMK, Mr. Raja said, on the contrary, it was the BJP that felt the shock of the DMK's achievements.
'That is why they sent Mr. Shah to Tamil Nadu. The people of Tamil Nadu have rejected the BJP's communal and divisive politics and stand solidly behind the DMK in all elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Tamil Nadu five times during the previous Lok Sabha polls. His repeated visits show who is afraid of whom,' he said.
Mr. Raja claimed the DMK had fulfilled all its electoral promises except for its assurance to government employees (on restoring old pension scheme). 'But the Chief Minister has constituted a committee to study their demands. We are not afraid of Modi or Amit Shah. Their ideology may win elections elsewhere, but the Dravidian ideology is an antidote to the BJP's ideology. They cannot set foot in Tamil Nadu as long as the Dravidian ideology is alive,' he said.
When asked about the Lord Murugan conference (Murugan maanadu) being planned by the BJP in Madurai (on June 22), he charged that unlike the conference organised by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department, the BJP's motive was to incite communal sentiments against minorities.
'The people of Madurai do not accept their motives. Why has Mr. Amit Shah, who ranted about his love for Tamil, not answered why the Centre has not accepted the report on Keeladi (excavation)? Their mindset is against Tamils and the Dravidian ideology, and they will face the consequences in the 2026 Assembly elections. The visits of Mr. Modi and Mr. Shah only strengthened the DMK's prospects,' Mr. Raja felt.

Long-pending central govt's infra projects in Belagavi back on track
Belagavi: Several long-pending central govt's infrastructure projects in and around Belagavi are finally gaining momentum after years of delay, primarily due to land acquisition hurdles. The breakthrough comes with the combined efforts of DC Mohammad Roshan and Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar , who took these stalled projects as a top priority. Key among them is the much-awaited Belagavi-Dharwad railway line via Kittur, a 73-km project sanctioned in 2019 during the tenure of former MP and MoS for railways, the late Suresh Angadi. Despite funding from the Centre, the project was held up for years due to land-related issues. However, DC Roshan recently announced that land acquisition is now complete, and the work is expected to commence shortly. The Halaga-Macche bypass highway, a vital route connecting Pune-Bengaluru NH-4 and Belagavi-Goa national highway, sanctioned in 2009, also faced prolonged delay due to legal land disputes. With the district administration actively mediating and convincing landowners, the impasse has been resolved, and construction is underway. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo Another major infrastructure project, the Belagavi Ring Road was sanctioned in 2018. The Rs 3,800 crore project to be executed in three phases, received Rs 1,622 crore for the first phase of 34 km. DC Roshan recently confirmed that 80% of the land acquisition is now complete. This ambitious project, sanctioned under the Bharatmala project, will help resolve the traffic congestion in Belagavi city. "Most of these projects were delayed despite being sanctioned, because of land-related issues. After I became MP, I prioritised these issues, met Union ministers, held review meetings with officials, and visited the sites. Today, we are seeing the results. I expect the required land to be fully acquired in the next 2-3 months and the tender process to begin within 5-6 months," said MP Jagadish Shettar. He credited DC Mohammad Roshan for playing a vital role in resolving bureaucratic and on-ground challenges related to land acquisition. In addition, Shettar informed that land acquisition for Belagavi-Hunagund-Raichur highway, a Rs 1,452 crore project, has also reached near completion. He further assured that the new terminal at Belagavi airport will be ready by March 2026, marking a step toward upgrading the facility to international standards.

Tender process completed for M'luru-B'luru high-speed corridor: MP
Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta said that the tender process for the proposed Mangaluru-Bengaluru High-Speed Express Corridor was completed by the ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH), and the work to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) will commence soon. Providing information about the high-speed corridor project, Chowta said that a letter was received from Union minister Nitin Gadkari regarding the construction of the fastest road corridor between Mangaluru and Bengaluru. A contract for preparing the detailed project report for this project was awarded on April 30, and it is expected to take approximately 18 months to complete the DPR, he said. "The ambitious project, which is crucial for comprehensive development, including commercial activities in Dakshina Kannada, including Mangaluru, has taken a significant step forward under the govt of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This high-speed expressway is expected to have four to eight lanes and will pass through Hassan. Once constructed, the highway will enhance the transportation infrastructure between the two major cities. The improved route will reduce traffic congestion and significantly cut down travel time between Mangaluru and Bengaluru, providing a safe, efficient, and all-weather connectivity between major cities in Karnataka," the MP said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Düsseldorf: GEERS sucht 700 Testhörer für Hörgeräte ohne Zuzahlung GEERS Undo The project will aid in the development of not just Mangaluru, but also south Karnataka and surrounding cities. It will further benefit the growth of Mangaluru's port, tourism, and commercial activities, he said. "Over the past year, I was continuously working on the implementation of the Bengaluru-Mangaluru High-Speed Corridor project, meeting several times with Union minister Nitin Gadkari, home minister Amit Shah, the secretary of the MoRTH, Umashankar, and the chief secretary of the state, Shalini Rajneesh, among other officials and ministers. Efforts and follow-ups are being made in all possible ways to realise this project. Overall, if this major expressway in Karnataka becomes a reality, the travel time between Bengaluru and Mangaluru is expected to be significantly reduced from the current 7-8 hours. Additionally, if all stages of the project proceed as anticipated, construction of the expressway is likely to commence soon," the MP said. Further, the MP said the railway ministry is also preparing to draft a DPR for a separate rail route on the Shiradi Ghat stretch. "Since Shiradi Ghat is in a sensitive ecological zone of the Western Ghats, a request was made to form a joint committee of the Railway Board and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to explore the possibilities of developing road and rail routes in parallel. An integrated plan will facilitate approval from the forest and environmental departments," he added.

CPI(M-L) likely to contest around 45 seats in Bihar Assembly election
The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), an ally of the Opposition Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) in Bihar, is planning to contest around 45 seats of the total 243 in the Assembly election due later this year. The CPI(M-L) will also launch a campaign, 'Badlo Sarkar-Badlo Bihar' (change the government, change Bihar)', across the State soon. Addressing mediapersons in Patna on Tuesday (June 10, 2025), CPI(M-L) national general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya said: 'Our party has been making preparations to contest 40-45 Assembly seats in the upcoming election. In the coming days, there would be talks on seat sharing and the agendas on which the Mahagathbandhan would contest the poll.' Won 12 in 2020 election In the last 2020 Assembly election, the party won 12 seats out of 19 it contested. The CPI(M-L), the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) together won 16 out of the total 29 seats in the election. The CPI had contested six seats, while the CPI(M) fought on four seats. Both won two seats each. In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the CPI(M-L) won two seats of Ara and Karakat of the total 40 seats. 'No governance' The CPI(M-L) slammed the NDA governments led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in the State on national security and law and order issues. 'Today there is no government as such in the State. Law and order has collapsed and the people of the State are caught between crime and corruption,' Mr. Bhattacharya alleged. 'Cases of rape have become common, and feudal atrocities have increased in the name of development and good governance in the State. People of the State now are trying to get rid of this oppressive government,' he said. The party leader said the CPI(M-L) would run the Badlo Sarkar-Badlo Bihar campaign from June 18 to June 27, especially in the four regions of Shahabad, Saran-Champaran, Magadh, and Muzaffarpur to Darbhanga. Calls for special session The CPI(M-L) leader criticised the Modi-led government over its foreign policy too. 'The Modi government had sent seven delegations to 32 countries (following Operation Sindoor), but India's international isolation continues. They [the Central government] should call a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terrorist incident and the situation thereafter,' he said. 'The BJP-led NDA government has weakened the country on every front, especially on issues related with national security and foreign policy,' he said. On the ongoing (anti-Maoist) 'Operation Kagar' in Chhattisgarh, Mr. Bhattacharya said: 'It's all state- sponsored violence. The five Left parties of the country have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 9 demanding an immediate stay on the ongoing operation.' Polit Bureau member Dhirendra Jha, party legislators Gopal Ravidas and Sandeep Saurabh, party MLC Sashi Yadav, and senior State leaders K.D. Yadav and Umesh Singh were present on the occasion.
