Delhi CM flags off 105 new DEVI e-buses, inaugurates Narela depot

electric buses
and inaugurated the newly built Sector A9 depot in Narela, calling it a step towards cleaner and more efficient public transport for the capital.
Gupta said the depot was completed in just 90 days and claimed it reflects the
BJP government
's commitment to deliver on promises made to Delhi residents.
She also attacked the previous
Aam Aadmi Party
(AAP) government, accusing it of pushing
Delhi Transport Corporation
(DTC) into losses and fostering a corrupt system.

"Buses are Delhi's lifeline. But under the previous government, routes were cut, buses reduced, and corruption seeped in," she said. Referring to the CAG report, Gupta claimed that DTC had incurred losses amounting to Rs 65,000 crore during the earlier regime.
She alleged that even the free bus ride scheme for women was marred by corruption and panic buttons were installed "just for show".

Highlighting features of the new nine-metre-long electric buses, Gupta said they are equipped with air conditioning, panic buttons, and real-time monitoring systems. "When we removed paper tickets and moved to cards, AAP spread lies that women would no longer travel for free. But the move was only to curb corruption," she said.
Meanwhile, Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Singh, who was present at the event, said the previous government denied people their right to better buses. "These buses should have arrived by last monsoon, but the former government failed to deliver. Today, the
BJP
is fulfilling that promise," he said.
He said that earlier DEVI buses were green in colour, and this is the first time an entire fleet of orange-coloured buses has been introduced. This adds more vibrancy, and we will continue increasing their numbers, as we have been doing since the launch of the DEVI buses.
Delhi BJP leader Yogender Chandolia dismissed AAP's claim that this was just a rebranding exercise. "If these were AAP's buses, they would have been on the roads months ago. These are new buses, purchased and brought in under the BJP. AAP never procured small electric buses - they reused old ones," he said.
Chandolia said the new compact DEVI buses, with seating for 23 and standing space for 17 passengers, are ideal for navigating Delhi's narrow lanes and will benefit people. "This is the real Rekha Gupta Model - clean, modern, and efficient public transport," he added.
Currently, Delhi operates around 2,000 electric buses, and officials said the number will continue to rise, with a goal of achieving 100 per cent electrification of the bus fleet by 2027.

The ruling Trinamool Congress on Friday (June 27, 2025) condemned the alleged gangrape of a student at a law college in Kolkata and said the incident should not be politicised. Addressing a press conference, West Bengal minister Shashi Panja said the state government stands firmly with the student and her family. 'This incident is extremely painful. Kolkata Police has already initiated action, and all information related to the probe is available to the public,' Ms. Panja said. 'Instead of making the victim a battleground for politics, her pain must be understood, she must be respected, and justice must be ensured – swiftly and unconditionally,' she added. 'The law college student was allegedly raped inside the institution on June 25 by an alumnus, while two senior students reportedly assisted the prime accused,' a police officer said. All three accused were arrested and produced in court, which remanded them in police custody for four days. Social media handles of the prime accused revealed that he is a former president of the college's Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad unit, and the organisational secretary of the south Kolkata wing of the TMC's student body. Ms. Panja asserted that West Bengal is the only state to have demanded the passage of the 'Aparajita Bill', which seeks stringent punishment for sexual offenders. 'We want this bill to become law. It will send a strong message and act as a deterrent,' she said. Without naming anyone, Ms. Panja took a swipe at the opposition, alleging, 'Some glorify or garland the accused. But we do not distribute sweets or protect such people. The Mamata Banerjee-led government neither shields perpetrators nor compromises on women's dignity.' The TMC also said the Centre's 'indifference' towards the 'Aparajita Bill' was 'deeply unfortunate'. 'Despite repeated pleas, the BJP-led Government at the Centre has done nothing to implement it,' Ms. Panja said. The bill, tabled after the R.G. Kar hospital incident, aims to modify and introduce fresh provisions in the law related to rape and sexual offences. Earlier, in a post on X, the party said, 'The state administration, under Hon'ble Chief Minister Smt @MamataOfficial, is committed to providing every possible form of support and assistance to the victim during this distressing time. RSS mask comes off; it wants 'Manusmriti', not Constitution: Rahul Gandhi
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday (June 27, 2025) said the mask of the RSS has come off again as it wants "Manusmriti" and not the Constitution, after the general secretary of the organisation, Dattatreya Hosabale, sought a review of the words "socialist" and "secular" in the Preamble to the Constitution. "The mask of RSS has come off again. The Constitution irks them because it speaks of equality, secularism and justice," Mr. Gandhi said in a post in Hindi on X. "The RSS, BJP do not want the Constitution, they want 'Manusmriti'. They aim to strip the marginalised and poor of their rights and enslave them again. Snatching a powerful weapon like the Constitution from them is their real agenda," the leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha alleged. Assam enters national auction map as northeast's mineral potential unveiled
Guwahati: VL Kantha Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Mines, underscored that the Geological Survey of India has identified over 36,000 square kilometres in the Northeast India as having mineral potential, translating to nearly 3,000 prospective mines. He highlighted that Assam has now firmly entered the national auction map, signalling a new era for mineral development. The 2nd North East Geology and Mining Ministers' Conclave was inaugurated in Guwahati, Assam on Friday. He called for expanding exploration and research, including leveraging Artificial Intelligence in mineral discovery. Notably, the North East is home to one of India's first AI-supported exploration projects sanctioned under the National Mineral Exploration Trust. The Secretary urged all state governments to actively facilitate exploration, considering the challenging topography, and to ensure sustainability and adequate security for geologists working in remote areas. The inaugural session was addressed by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma he shared that state has initiated the auction of seven limestone blocks in the Umrangso area of Dima Hasao district, with five already auctioned and Letters of Intent issued, and the remaining two expected to be auctioned by August 2025. He expressed confidence that, with the support of the Government of India and Indian Bureau of Mines, at least one of these limestone blocks could be operationalised by December 2025. Live Events The Chief Minister informed that during the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit, the Mines and Minerals Department signed 14 MoUs securing investment commitments exceeding Rs 46,000 crore from national and international investors. He assured the gathering of Assam's conducive working environment and announced that the state cabinet has approved the formation of the Assam State Mineral Trust to promote sustainable mining and exploration of minor minerals. He added that the Assam Mineral Policy is in its final stage of formulation and is expected to be implemented within a month. Addressing the Conclave, Union Minister of Coal & Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, underscored the North East's critical role in India's mining and energy roadmap. He emphasised that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the mineral-rich states of the North East are now receiving focused attention to transform untapped resources into drivers of economic growth, employment, and local empowerment. The Minister reaffirmed the Centre's full support to all North Eastern states to develop state-specific mining action plans and stressed the importance of environmentally responsible, technologically advanced mining practices. He also highlighted the need to align mineral initiatives with disaster preparedness, scientific research, and community development. Vikram Dev Dutt, Secretary, Ministry of Coal, highlighted the North East's strategic importance for India's energy security, owing to its rich tertiary coal deposits across Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Sikkim. These deposits, he noted, are characterised by high calorific value, low ash, and relatively higher sulphur content. He shared that 10% of funds under Central Sector funded schemes for Exploration have been earmarked specifically for the North East, underscoring the need for targeted exploration initiatives. The Secretary also informed that five coal blocks in the region have been successfully auctioned, with a combined capacity of 1.2 million tonnes per annum, expected to create around 1,650 jobs and generate nearly Rs 800 crore in annual revenue for the states. He reiterated that sustainability remains central to the Ministry's coal development strategy in the region. During the inaugural session, significant documents were released, including the Geological Potential of Northeast India which contains the details of the vast yet underexplored mineral resources of the eight Northeast States, laying the roadmap for strategic exploration, research, augmentation and sustainable development. The document on Mining in India's Northeast by the Indian Bureau of Mines was also released. The Ministry of Mines unveiled updated District Resource Maps covering Dibrugarh (Assam), East Kameng (Arunachal Pradesh), Kamjong (Manipur), East Garo (Meghalaya), Aizawl (Mizoram), Phek (Nagaland), Namchi (Sikkim), and Gomati (Tripura) to guide future investments. India's mineral auction framework has gained strong momentum in recent months. Since FY 2024–25, a total of 283 mineral blocks have been put up for auction by the State and Central Governments. Of these, 161 mineral blocks have been successfully auctioned, bringing the cumulative tally to 515. This includes five mineral blocks from Assam and four critical mineral blocks from Arunachal Pradesh, opening new avenues for industrial growth and employment in the region. These auctions underscore the readiness of the North-East to play a central role in India's critical mineral strategy, while also reflecting the government's commitment to transparency and competitiveness in resource allocation. The conclave is expected to serve as a catalyst for accelerating investment, innovation, and inclusive growth in the mineral and coal sectors of the North Eastern Region, in alignment with the vision of Viksit Bharat.
