Rayudu played for MI from 2010 to 2017. During his time with MI, he played 87 matches, scoring 1,771 runs with a high score of 81 not out. He was also part of the three title-winning campaigns in 2013, 2015 and 2017.
'When I played for MI, the entire dressing room had an unspoken understanding: if someone tried to have a go at us, three or four players would immediately step in to back their teammate. That's why very few teams ever tried to take on MI. RCB, on the other hand, would go after everyone. Sometimes they teased me or another MI player once or twice, but eventually, even they realised it wasn't wise to mess with MI," Rayudu said on JioHotstar's 'Cheeky Singles'.
After leaving MI, Rayudu joined another IPL giant, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and represented the franchise from 2018 to 2021. In 61 matches for CSK, Rayudu contributed 1,507 runs, including a century and seven fifties. He went on to lift two titles with the franchise before concluding his IPL career with five silverwares.
'Sometimes, Mahi bhai would tell me - just like a tin roof heats up quickly, I also tend to lose my cool quickly. We would point out to the umpire that a delivery was wide or a no-ball, and he would always tell me, 'Just focus on batting, don't raise your hand. I don't want to lose Fair Play points because of you'. Interestingly, that same year, he himself walked onto the field - not because of me, but because we were losing," he said.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson is all but confirmed to leave the franchise, according to multiple reports. Samson, who has been with RR for 11 seasons, has requested the franchise to either trade him or let him enter the IPL mini auction. Samson and RR have had plenty of differences of late, with the franchise owner Manoj Badale in direct talks with other franchises over a possible trade for the player. According to a report in Cricbuzz, one of the major reason's behind Samson's fallout with RR was their decision to release former England captain Jos Buttler. "As previously reported here, Samson has made a formal request to the Royals management stating that he is seeking a new direction. There have apparently been many issues of differences between RR and Samson, one of which was the management's decision to release Jos Buttler," the report said. Earlier this year, Samson had indirectly criticised the management's desicion of not retaining Buttler, who spent seven seasons at the helm before being released before the mega auction last year. "Letting him go has been one of the most challenging decisions for me. During the England series, I told him over dinner that I was still not over it. If I could change one thing in the IPL, I would change the rule of releasing players every three years," Samson had told Star Sports before last IPL season. Samson, who has been part of the franchise for the past 11 years, has urged RR to either release him or let him enter the bidding war ahead of the upcoming auction. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have reportedly shown their interest over a possible trade with RR for Samson. While CSK, for weeks, have appeared to be the front runners in the race, the chances of Samson joining the five-time champions are a bit slim now. RR had asked CSK for either Ravindra Jadeja or Ruturaj Gaikwad in exchange for Samson. However, CSK have already rejected his request. "With the letters sent directly to franchise owners, details have largely stayed under wraps. However, it is learnt that a potential trade with the Chennai Super Kings - widely speculated in recent days - could be a long shot, as the Royals are believed to have asked for either Ravindra Jadeja or Ruturaj Gaikwad, both deal-breaking terms that the Super Kings are not ready to entertain," the report said.

Dewald Brevis was one of the top performers for Chennai Super Kings during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The South Africa cricketer came as a substitute replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh for Rs 2.2 crore. However, he impressed everyone by smashing 225 runs in just 6 matches at a strike rate of around 180. Former India spinner R Ashwin has now revealed that CSK may have paid 'extra' in order to beat other teams to sign Brevis. During a recent YouTube discussion, Ashwin said that the franchise paid some extra money over the base price to ensure that Brevis signed with them despite interest from several other franchises at that moment. Brevis' base price was Rs 75 lakh. "I will tell you something. About Brevis. He had a great time last IPL with CSK. In fact, a few teams were talking to him. A few teams left him because of the price. When he was supposed to be signed as a replacement, he was supposed to be signed at the base price. But what happens is you talk to the agents and the player will say, if you give me X amount extra, I will come," Ashwin said on YouTube. According to IPL rules, the money paid for the replacement player cannot exceed the one paid for the injured player. Gurjapneet was bought for Rs 2.2 crore and if there is a chance that CSK paid more for Brevis, it can turn out to be a problem for the franchise. "That happens because the player knows if he is released next season, he will go for good money. So his concept was that, you pay me good money now else I will go for more next year. And CSK were ready to pay him, hence he came. In the back half, the CSK combination was strong. They will go with Rs 30 crore in IPL 2026 mini auction," Ashwin added.
