Japanese influencer Kaz Fula claims family threatened by ramen restaurant owner
Published on: Saturday, August 16, 2025 Published on: Sat, Aug 16, 2025 Text Size: KUALA LUMPUR: Japanese influencer Kaz Fula ( pic ), who is based in Malaysia, has claimed that his family has received death threats from a fellow Japanese national who owns a ramen restaurant here, reported The Rakyat Post . The restaurant owner, who was charged with domestic violence in 2023, allegedly blamed Japanese influencers and residents in Malaysia for losses in his ramen business. According to Kaz, this belief led the restaurant owner to threaten and blackmail others, including using fake online profiles to spread stories and harass individuals. Kaz further alleged that the same profiles were used to issue death threats and even demand money under the guise of seeking help. Expressing his dismay, Kaz said he was saddened and ashamed to witness such behaviour from a fellow Japanese person in Malaysia. He confirmed that he has lodged reports with both the police and the Japanese Embassy in Malaysia to seek protection. Kaz also urged members of the public to report the suspicious profiles and to notify the authorities if they came across threats linked to the case. Meanwhile, the ramen restaurant owner has used social media to make his own claims, including a July 19 post where he announced that he would ban Japanese residents in Malaysia from dining at his outlets. On Aug 12, he alleged that a Japanese resident in Malaysia with a Datuk title had threatened him and his staff, and he vowed to expose alleged wrongdoing linked to that person. Most recently, on Aug 14, the owner announced he would be closing all his outlets and leaving for Okinawa, adding that he was concerned about the future of his local staff and hoped companies would step in to hire them. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Published on: Saturday, August 16, 2025 Published on: Sat, Aug 16, 2025 Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: tern actions should be taken against police officers if proven they failed to follow procedures in the investigation of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir's death, said the legal team representing her mother, Noraidah Lamat. In a joint statement, the lawyers — Hamid Ismail, Shahlan Jufri, Rizwandean M Borhan, Mohd Luqman Syazwan Zabidi, Mohd Syarulnizam Mohd Salleh and Farrah Nasser — welcomed the disciplinary probe by Bukit Aman's Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS). They said the #JusticeForZara movement, which has gained nationwide support, reflected public concern that proper legal procedures were not observed after Zara's death on 17 July. The legal team urged the Royal Malaysia Police to treat the case as a reminder to ensure all investigations into suspicious deaths are handled with full transparency and in strict compliance with standard operating procedures. At the same time, they noted that the family is still awaiting a date from the Attorney General's Chambers on the inquest application for Zara's case. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Housewife loses RM129,420 in Telegram job scam
JERANTUT: A housewife in Jerantut lost RM129,420 after falling victim to a job scam promoted via the Telegram messaging app, which falsely used the name of a legitimate company. Jerantut deputy district police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Azahari Mukhtar said the victim received the offer on Aug 8. The job was supposedly to evaluate products and write reviews in return for commissions. He said the woman then communicated with an individual posing as an agent, who instructed her to make several payments under various pretexts, including task fees, company collaboration charges, and technical service fees. "Starting from Aug 13, the victim made multiple bank transfers to several local accounts. The total losses amounted to RM129,420. "On Aug 14, she was asked to make another payment but became suspicious," he said in a statement today. The victim later lodged a police report at the Jerantut Police Station. "It is understood that the money came from her savings and her husband's business earnings. "The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating," he added. Police have urged the public to be cautious of online job offers promising high returns and to verify account numbers using the official portal before making any transactions.
