DC directs officials to expedite crop survey, promote schemes for farmers
Speaking at a review meeting on Tuesday, Kumara instructed that Private Residents (PRs) who have not met crop survey targets be replaced with efficient personnel. He noted encouraging progress in the 2024–25 crop survey cycle, with area coverage reaching 91.5% for the pre-monsoon season, 96.4% in monsoon, 97.7% post-monsoon, and 95.8% for summer crops. Highlighting the achievements under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), he said Rs 39.09 crore in compensation was disbursed to farmers during the 2023-24 season.
For the current year, 3,708 farmers have already submitted applications, and he urged officials to launch awareness drives to expand enrolment.
To spread awareness about crop insurance, jingles are being played through Raitha Sanjeevini vehicles, autorickshaws, garbage collection vans, and at KSRTC bus stands. Direct outreach is also being conducted at milk dairies, farmer societies, marketplaces, and other rural gathering points.

Under the PM Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme, loans totalling Rs 65.4 crore and subsidies worth Rs 21.7 crore have been sanctioned to 258 farmer-entrepreneurs in the district. A target of 250 new beneficiaries has been set for the current year. Kumara instructed the agriculture, horticulture, and fisheries departments to convene a joint meeting and identify areas with high potential for food processing units.
Zilla panchayat CEO KR Nandini highlighted that under the PMFME scheme, self-help groups under NRLM could take up ventures like traditional oil mills, Maddur vade, and chips production. Training for these units will be provided by subject experts once proposals are finalised.
Meanwhile, Union minister for heavy industries and steel and Mandya MP HD Kumaraswamy will chair the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee meeting on July 4. Officials also reviewed the status report prepared ahead of the meeting.

1 2 3 4 Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (APSPCB) on Wednesday conducted a public hearing for environmental clearance to the proposed 1,200MW Kalai-II hydroelectric project in Anjaw district, being developed by THDC India Limited. The hearing, chaired by Anjaw DC Millo Kojin, saw the participation of women and child development minister Dasanglu Pul, THDC officials and over 350 project-affected persons (PAFs) from 33 villages. Pul, recalling that her late husband and former CM Kalikho Pul had initiated survey work for Kalai-I and II in 2009, said she was glad to see his vision nearing reality. Urging locals to back the project, she cited Uttarakhand's Tehri dam as an example of the benefits of large hydropower infrastructure. She also assured that 50% of the project's employment opportunities would be reserved for land-affected families, besides boosting self-employment and entrepreneurship in the region. With an investment of nearly Rs 14,000 crore, Kalai-II is expected to generate free power worth Rs 318 crore annually after commissioning, while contributing Rs 2.2 crore every year to the Local Area Development Fund. Govt asks depts to prepare plan for Viksit UP 2047
1 2 Lucknow: The plan for Viksit UP-2047, which coincides with the idea of Viksit Bharat by the centenary year of India's independence, has gathered momentum after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared a detailed proposal in the monsoon session of the UP Assembly last week. All departments have been directed to frame their plan of action, and a vision document will be prepared within the next 4-6 months. The plan will focus on 12 sectors, each encompassing various departments. Short-term goals, looking at developments within the next five years, and medium and long-term goals have been identified, and the planning department has been deputed to lead implementation and ensure coordination among CM had said in the Assembly that UP was already on the path of becoming a USD 1 trillion economy by 2029-30, for which it had set a target of a growth rate of over 20% in the next five years. Haryana identifies 91 bank branches with ‘mule accounts': 26 of them in Gurgaon, 24 in Nuh
Chandigarh: Haryana Police have identified 91 bank branches across the state where suspected "mule accounts" are being operated by cybercriminals for large-scale fraudulent transactions. Of these, 26 branches are in Gurgaon and 24 in Nuh district. Special teams of the cybercrime wing are conducting examinations of the records to ensure negligence or deliberate collusion of bank staff are not facilitating cybercriminals. The teams are scrutinising lapses in KYC compliance, procedural violations in account opening, the role of bank employees, and any signs of negligence. Continuing the drive, raids were conducted in districts of Karnal and Yamunanagar on Wednesday. In Yamunanagar, investigations revealed that a firm having a current account, officially shut down in March 2025, carried out transactions worth Rs 43 lakh. Nationwide, eight complaints were registered against this firm. Another current account was found to be opened on a fake address, and transactions worth Rs 2 crore made in just three months. The account has 33 complaints filed against it across the country.
