Curry house that Peter Crouch threatened to name his child after closes down

Metro2 days ago
A beloved Indian restaurant which once delivered to Kensington Palace has closed down after 42 years in business.
Samrat Indian Cuisine in Ealing, west London is a firm favourite of former England football star Peter Crouch, who has been visiting since he was a child.
While recording an episode of That Peter Crouch Podcast in July 2020, Prince William surprised his host by having a curry from Samrat delivered to them in Kensington Palace.
And the footballer even said he considered naming his fourth child after the restaurant.
After the birth of his and wife Abbey Clancy's youngest son, Jack, in June 2019, the couple joked that he would be named 'Divock Samrat Crouch' in a nod to his favourite curry house and Liverpool striker Divock Origi, who had recently scored the winning goal in the Champions League Final.
In a tribute to Samrat, Peter said: 'We laughed, we cried, we scalded our lips on the phall.
'We went to the palace to meet the Prince and you woke me up in my bedroom with a madras once.
'Wherever we went in the world we always came back. Thanks for the memories. Thank you Samrat.'
Shafrul Islam, who had run Samrat for over four decades, said Peter had been in touch with him since the restaurant shut in an attempt to try and save it – but he and his partner were 'not healthy' and could no longer carry on.
Mr Islam, 64, said: 'It was sad to close, but we are not healthy anymore and can't carry on. Peter got in touch. He was trying to help but it's too late now.
'He was sad, but everybody's sad. He was a local guy. He was coming as a kid with his mum and dad. I've known him for a long time. I've been to his house in Portugal.'
Over the years Mr Islam said the restaurant had served several celebrities, from comedian Rowan Atkinson and politician Neil Kinnock, to footballers Joe Cole and Aaron Ramsdale.
Back in 2023, he brought a chicken madras to Peter's holiday home in Portugal as part of Michael McIntyre's Big Show, where the footballer was able to correctly identify which of three curries came from Samrat. More Trending
He posted a handwritten note in the restaurant's front window explaining: 'After nearly four decades we have made the difficult decision to close our doors.
'Thank you for trusting us with birthdays, anniversaries, quiet evenings and everyday moments.
'Your loyalty has meant everything and it's been a pleasure to be a part of the community.
'It's time to say goodbye, with immense gratitude. With love and thanks, Samrat.'

A beloved soap is 'returning to screens' after 22 years off air as show is set to make a historic crossover with Hollyoaks

A beloved soap is reportedly returning to screens after 22 years off air as it is set to make a historic crossover with Hollyoaks. Hollyoaks celebrates its 30th anniversary in October, and to make the milestone Brookside will be returning too, according to The Sun. The iconic Liverpool-based soap will be streamed in a special Hollyoaks episode that will honour the predecessor. The soap, set in Liverpool, chronicled the lives of characters living in 13 houses on a cul-de-sac called Brookside Close. Hollyoaks took over as Channel 4 's flagship continuing drama when the Liverpool based soap ended on November 4th 2003. And as part of the exciting crossover, fans will see Brookside characters make a return as a treat to mark the milestone. Executive Producer Hannah Cheers told the publication: 'This episode is a love letter to both Hollyoaks and Brookside. 'Brookside gave birth to Hollyoaks — it grew up on the same site and eventually took over its sets. 'For everyone at Lime Pictures (originally Mersey TV), Hollyoaks' history is deeply rooted in Brookside, and its legacy lives on through our crew and, of course, some of our cast.' Brookside originally aired on the first day that Channel 4 was broadcast on November 2 in 1982 and proved an instant hit with viewers. Fan favourites included Bobby and Sheila and Grant, played by Ricky Tomlinson and Sue Johnston. The show launched the careers of many industry heavyweights including Anna Friel, Amanda Burton and Claire Sweeney. At its peak, the show drew in audiences of nine million viewers before it came to a close on November 4 2003. Across its run, the show took on issues such as LGBT+ and hard hitting storylines like rape, bullying and incest. In 1985, teenage character Gordon Collins came out to his family as gay on the soap. The character, played by both Mark Burgess and Nigel Crowley, became the first ever openly gay character in a British TV series when the episode aired. Brookside also had the first pre-watershed lesbian kiss in British history between characters Beth Jordache, played by Anna Friel, and Margaret Clemence, who was portrayed by future Emmerdale actress Nicola Stephenson. Anna's career has taken her to America where she has appeared in the comedy series Pushing Daisies, opposite Susan Sarandon in country music drama Monarch and alongside Bradley Cooper in the film Limitless. Silent Witness actress Amanda, Hollyoaks actress Alex Fletcher, and West End musical star Claire Sweeney also began their careers on the soap.

Conjoined sisters Abby and Brittany Hensel spotted carrying newborn baby

Conjoined twins Abby and Brittany Hensel have been pictured carrying a newborn baby one year after their secret wedding was revealed. Images show the pair, 34, holding the baby in a car seat near a car in Arden Hills, Minnesota, on Thursday. They were last in the public spotlight a year ago after it was revealed Abby had married dad-of-one Joshua Bowling three years before in 2021. Joshua shared a wedding day picture on his Facebook, showing the couple with Brittany. The family already sparked pregnancy rumours in December after they shared an uncaptioned video on Tiktok featuring a series of fake 'breaking' news headlines referencing them. One of the headlines read 'Shocking Tragedy', while another said: 'What if one dies?' The final headline, showcased at the end of the video, read: 'Married & baby on the way,' leading fans to speculate if the twins used the clip to soft-launch a pregnancy. Abby and Brittany are yet to confirm any pregnancy. The two shot to fame on reality TV and first appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show in 1996 when they were just six-years-old. They now work as teachers in Minnesota and are the rarest conjoined twins because they come from a single fertilised egg that failed to fully separate in the womb. The pair have two brains, two spinal cords and two hearts, but share organs from below the waist. More Trending Abby controls the right arm and leg and Brittany controls the left. In a previous documentary about their life, the pair said: 'People have been curious about us since we were born, for obvious reasons. 'But our parents never let us use that as an excuse. We were raised to believe we could do anything we wanted to do. 'The most amazing thing about us is we are like everyone else.'
