KLIA immigration corruption, malpractice issues among Parliament's focus today
According to the Order Paper on the official Parliament website, Lee Chean Chung (PH-Petaling Jaya) will raise the issue with the Home Minister during the question and answer session. He will also inquire the timeline for resolving these issues.
During the session, Rushdan Rusmi (PN-Padang Besar) will question the Transport Minister on the guidelines for approving special vehicle registration plates, including those issued by government agencies and private entities, as well as the revenue generated from such sales in the past five years.
Chow Kon Yeow (PH-Batu Kawan) will seek clarification from the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister on improving the annual distribution of flood management funds, as opposed to one-off allocations.
He will also ask about efforts to establish a dedicated system for river maintenance and control asset management, similar to the Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris).
In addition, Datuk Ali Biju (PN-Saratok) will ask the Communications Minister on the government's plans for expanding the Integrated Radio and Internet Communication System in Sabah and Sarawak, and its coordination with government agencies for disaster preparedness.
Following this, Members of Parliament will participate in a debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), themed 'Melakar Semula Pembangunan', which was tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last Thursday (July 31).
The 13MP will outline the nation's five-year development plan from 2026 to 2030.
The current Dewan Rakyat sitting runs for 24 days until Aug 28. - Bernama

Anwar: Thailand, Cambodia want Malaysia to stay in peace talks role even after Asean chair ends
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — Thailand and Cambodia have asked Malaysia to keep mediating their ongoing border conflict, even after Malaysia's term as Asean chair ends next year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told the Dewan Rakyat today. He said Putrajaya would continue acting as a mediator until the dispute is fully resolved. 'This responsibility is not limited to our position as Asean Chair. Both countries have requested that Malaysia continue its role until a resolution is achieved,' Anwar said. 'Initially, we targeted a resolution within three months. However, in any negotiation, timelines cannot be strictly fixed. What's important is ensuring progress is made through ceasefires and a genuine commitment towards resolution,' he added. Anwar also stressed the importance of maintaining Asean centrality in managing regional disputes, warning against the direct involvement of major powers. He said any future monitoring or peacekeeping presence at the border should comprise representatives from Asean member states only. 'We want to avoid the direct involvement of major powers. These negotiations must remain an Asean initiative,' he said. He added that external logistical support from countries such as the United States or China may be accepted — but only if offered neutrally and without political interference. Anwar also urged all parties to refrain from provocations that could derail the ongoing peace efforts.

Reach consensus first, negotiate MP allocation with DPM Fadillah, Anwar tells Opposition lawmakers
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tells Opposition lawmakers to set their differences aside and start negotiations with the government over MP allocations. He said that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof is ready to hear the Opposition, but also said that there must be a consensus among them first. 'There must be consensus among the Opposition MPs. Currently, there is no consensus — some want one thing, some want another, some agree to negotiate, and some do not. 'Therefore, I suggest that an agreement be reached among the Perikatan Nasional MPs first, and then communicate this consensus to DPM (Fadillah), who holds the mandate,' he said during Prime Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Aug 5). He was responding to a supplementary question by Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau), who had asked Anwar on whether the government will provide allocations for the Opposition MPs. 'Will you provide justice for all Malaysians by providing allocations for all MPs?' Shahidan asked after highlighting Anwar's achievements in facilitating a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia. In a supplementary question, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin (PN-Larut) asked if Anwar was ready to meet with the Opposition to discuss domestic matters. Anwar said that he was always ready to discuss any issues with the Opposition. 'However, if the issue is about the MP allocations, the mandate is with the Deputy Prime Minister 2 (Fadillah). Thailand and Cambodia should reach common ground in peace talks by Aug 7, says Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR: Talks to resolve Thailand and Cambodia's border tensions are expected to be concluded by Thursday (Aug 7), says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He said army generals of both countries are currently in Kuala Lumpur for a meeting coordinated by Malaysia. 'We extend our appreciation to the Chief of the Malaysian Armed Forces for helping to coordinate this meeting. 'We hope that some common ground facilitated by Malaysia can be reached before or on Aug 7, as the Defence Ministers of Cambodia and Thailand will be present to reach an agreement,' he said during Prime Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Aug 5).
