Police officer seriously injured in stabbing in Wiikwemkoong
A police officer in Wiikwemkoong was stabbed early Monday morning and was taken to Health Sciences North in Sudbury for treatment by Ornge Helicopter.
In a news release, Wikwemikong Tribal Police said the incident took place while officers were responding to an incident around 4 a.m. on Andrew Crescent.
The release said the officer 'sustained knife-related injuries,' but didn't say why police were responding or the sequence of events leading to the injury.
'We ask for continued patience and cooperation from the community as our police services work diligently to gather information and bring clarity to this situation,' the release said.
Two men, ages 19 and 20, 'have been taken into custody in connection with the occurrence.'
'There is no ongoing threat to public safety. The Ontario Provincial Police and UCCM Anishnaabe Police are assisting with the investigation.'
Ontario Provincial Police confirmed Monday afternoon the officer 'sustained serious injuries.'
'Further information will be released as it becomes available,' the OPP said.

The drone searched throughout the night, but failed to find the missing man. Then he was spotted around 7 a.m. the next morning. 'Employees of Dyno Nobel working at a mine site on Kirkwood Mine Road -- southwest of the man's last known location -- spotted the missing man walking along the mine road,' police said. 'He was in good health and was promptly escorted to police officers on scene. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of all involved, the 26-year-old man was safely reunited with his loved ones.' Safety tips The incident serves as a reminder to follow certain safety tips when going to pick blueberries or hiking in remote areas. Motorcyclist dies in hospital after crash on Hwy. 174 Tuesday afternoon

Emergency crews responded to reports of a single-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle at approximately 2:35 p.m. Tuesday. The motorcyclist was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The Ottawa Police Service said Friday evening the motorcyclist died in hospital.
