Russia warns US, South Korea and Japan against forming security alliance targeting North Korea
Russia warns US, South Korea and Japan against forming security alliance targeting North Korea (AP) SEOUL: foreign minister warned the US, South Korea and Japan against forming a security partnership targeting North Korea as he visited his country's ally for talks on further solidifying their booming military and other cooperation. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke Saturday at North Korea's eastern Wonsan city, where he met the country's leader, Kim Jong Un, and conveyed greetings from President Vladimir Putin. Kim during the meeting reaffirmed his government's commitment to "unconditionally support and encourage all measures" taken by Russia in its conflict with Ukraine. He said Pyongyang and Moscow share identical views on "all strategic issues in conformity with the level of alliance," according to North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency. Lavrov called for the two countries to further strengthen their "strategic and tactical cooperation and intensify concerted action" in international affairs, KCNA reported. Relations between Russia and North Korea have been flourishing in recent years, with North Korea supplying troops and ammunition to support Russia's war against Ukraine in return for military and economic assistance. That has raised concerns among South Korea, the US and others that Russia might also transfer sensitive technologies to North Korea that can increase the danger of its nuclear and missile programs. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Speaking with reporters after a meeting with his North Korean counterpart Choe Son Hui, Lavrov accused the US, South Korea and Japan of what he called military buildups around North Korea. "We warn against exploiting these ties to build alliances directed against anyone, including North Korea and, of course, Russia," he said, according to Russia's state Tass news agency. The US, South Korea and Japan have expanded or restored their trilateral military exercises in response to North Korea's advancing nuclear program. The three countries held a joint air drill Friday involving US nuclear-capable bombers near the Korean Peninsula as their top military officers met in Seoul and urged North Korea to cease all unlawful activities threatening regional security. North Korea views major US-led military drills as invasion rehearsals and has long argued it is forced to develop nuclear weapons to defend itself from US military threats. Russia understands North Korea's decision to seek nuclear weapons, Lavrov said. "The technologies used by North Korea are the result of the work of its own scientists. We respect North Korea's aspirations and understand the reasons why it is pursuing nuclear development," Lavrov said, according to Tass. During their meeting, Choe reiterated North Korea "unconditionally" supports Russia's fight against Ukraine, as Lavrov repeated Russia's gratitude for the contribution North Korean troops made in efforts to repel a Ukrainian incursion into Russia's Kursk border region. North Korea recently opened a mammoth beach resort in Wonsan city, the meeting venue, that it says can accommodate nearly 20,000 people. In his comments at the start of his meeting with Choe, Lavrov said, "I am sure that Russian tourists will be increasingly eager to come here. We will do everything we can to facilitate this, creating conditions for this, including air travel," according to the Russian Foreign Ministry. The Wonsan-Kalma tourist zone is at the center of Kim's push to boost tourism to improve his country's troubled economy. However, prospects for the tourist complex aren't clear as North Korea appears unlikely to fully reopen its borders and embrace Western tourists anytime soon.

Bihar SIR row: 'Sootra ko hum mootra samajhte hain', Tejashwi mocks 'illegal voters' claim; calls EC 'cell' of political party
Tejashwi Yadav (PTI photo) NEW DELHI: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday rejected source-based reports claiming that the Election Commission , during its ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), found people from Bangladesh, Nepal, and Myanmar registered as voters in poll-bound Bihar. "Who are these sources?" Tejashwi Yadav asked Rubbishing the reports, the RJD leader also took a jibe at the "illegal voters" claim, saying: "These are the same sources that said Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore have been captured." " Ye sootra ko hum mootra samajhte hai ," the former Bihar deputy CM said. He, however, said that the BJP-led NDA was "at fault for any dubious elements' names getting added to the voter lists". "SIR was conducted for the last time in 2003 under the UPA government. Since then, we have seen many elections, including the ones in 2014, 2019, and 2024. In those elections, we lost by three to four lakhs. Does that mean all these foreigners voted for PM Modi?... This means that the NDA are at fault for any dubious elements' names getting added to the voter lists." He further said: That means all the elections they have won have been a fraud... SIR is a complete eyewash. The EC is working as a cell of a political party." Earlier, news agency PTI reported, quoting EC officials, that the field-level officials of the Election Commission have identified "a large number" of individuals from Nepal, Bangladesh, and Myanmar during ongoing house-to-house verification for the revision of the voters' list in Bihar. As Bihar gears up for assembly polls later this year, the Election Commission's special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has gained momentum -- and national significance. The exercise, which aims to weed out illegal migrants from voter lists, is expected to be expanded across the country, with a focus on verifying individuals' place of birth. Booth-level officers (BLOs), during their door-to-door verification drive, have reportedly encountered a notable number of suspected foreign nationals, based on ground-level findings. A full-scale verification process to determine the citizenship status of those flagged will begin after August 1. The EC has made it clear that the names of illegal migrants will not be included in the final electoral roll, which is set to be published on September 30. The initiative is being framed by the poll body as a necessary step to ensure that only eligible Indian citizens are included in the voter rolls. However, opposition parties have sharply criticised the move, warning it could result in the large-scale disenfranchisement of legitimate citizens. "The revision is part of a wider crackdown on illegal immigration, particularly targeting those from Bangladesh and Myanmar." On Friday, the Supreme Court backed the constitutionality of the EC's efforts, but urged that Aadhaar, voter ID, and ration cards be accepted as valid documents for verification in the ongoing process. Elections are also scheduled next year in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and West Bengal -- states that could see similar scrutiny of their voter rolls as the crackdown expands.

Blinkit plans transition to inventory led model from September 1; pings sellers to switch
Blinkit is transitioning to an inventory-led model as planned after its parent Eternal became an Indian-owned and controlled company (IOCC) in April. The Gurugram-based quick commerce platform has asked its sellers to switch to a new system where the company will now buy the inventory from them, instead of just storing it in its warehouses for an email to sellers on Saturday, Blinkit said it will shift to a new model starting September 1. From that date, the platform will directly buy inventory from sellers and brands, instead of having them list products on the marketplace. Currently, Blinkit runs two models. In the marketplace model, sellers list their products and pay Blinkit to store them in its warehouses. In the second model, typically offered to larger and more well-renowned brands with high frequency purchases, select sellers buy products in bulk and sell them through the platform. With this change, Blinkit will now take over inventory buying itself and list the products directly. During the company's January-March quarter earnings, Eternal's chief financial officer Akshant Goyal had said that assuming Blinkit owned 100% of inventory in fiscal 2025, it would have ended up deploying less than Rs 1,000 crore in working capital. This accounts for 15 days of working capital, and about 3-4% of Blinkit's gross order value of Rs 28,274 crore in FY25. 'Last date to opt into the new system (is July 30). No new listings or inventory will be allowed after this date for non-accepted sellers,' Blinkit wrote in its email to the sellers. ET has seen a copy of this announcement.'(From August 31) Your inventory moves from your books to BCPL (Blinkit),' it adds. A founder at one of the brands that ET spoke with said that the change is expected to make processes less complex. 'Right now, whoever operates on the marketplace model has to add the Blinkit warehouses on their goods and services tax (GST) and FSSAI registrations (for food and beverage brands)...once Blinkit starts taking inventory through purchase orders, that hassle will go away since it will be treated like a sale and not a stock transfer,' he the sellers not willing to transition to the new model, Blinkit said in its email that it will return the inventory after deducting reverse logistics development was first reported by Eternal had first announced its plans to become an IOCC in April this year, after 51% of its shareholding became locally owned, analysts had said that the move will help the company have better control over inventory and margins particularly at a time when quick commerce companies are witnessing piling up of losses. Blinkit's rival, Zepto, has also been working to raise its domestic shareholding. Under India's foreign direct investment (FDI) rules, foreign-funded online marketplaces are not allowed to own inventory or control sellers on their platforms. Due to these restrictions, quick commerce platforms typically do not directly own the dark stores – micro-warehouses used for 10-minute deliveries – which are instead operated by separate entities.
