Kidnapped From Road, Girl Gang-Raped By Hockey Coach, 2 Others In Odisha
A girl was allegedly gang-raped by her hockey coach and two of his associates earlier this month in Odisha's Jajpur district. She was raped on July 3. However, the matter came to the fore after she filed a complaint with the police.
On June 3, her coach, Sarthak, and his associates, Sandip and Sagar, allegedly kidnapped the girl from a road, took her to a lodge and sexually assaulted her.
The men also allegedly threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident to anyone.
The survivor has been training at the hockey stadium for the past two years.
All the accused have been detained.
As per the First Information Report or FIR, Sarthak, Sandip and Sagar have been charged under sections 70(2), 351(2), 74, 3(5) of BNS and section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The survivor's statement has been recorded before the district court, and legal proceedings are underway.
The incident has sparked outrage across the district, especially among sports and child rights communities, who have demanded strict action against the accused.
The case has raised serious concerns about safety protocols in sports training centres, particularly those involving minors.

KOCHI: Fort Kochi coastal police have registered a case against the captain in-charge of a ship which collided with a fishing boat near Neendakara Harbour and fled from the scene without attempting to rescue the fishermen on board. The incident occurred approximately 20 nautical miles off Neendakara coast. Following the incident, MMS 6N CR TETHYS, a chemical and oil products tanker, has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash navigation of a vessel and acts endangering human life. 'The collision took place when the boat was engaged in fishing. All six fishermen on board were thrown into the sea. Fortunately, they swam to safety,' said Sangeeth Job, SHO, Fort Kochi coastal police station. According to the complaint, the incident happened around 6.15 pm on Thursday. The tanker, travelling at high speed through the Arabian Sea, hit the rear side of the fishing boat named 'Nisniya'. The impact caused serious injuries to two fishermen and completely damaged the boat's rear section, resulting in an estimated financial loss of over Rs 30 lakh.

A man filed an official complaint after he received WhatsApp call from an international number. The man alleged that the caller claimed to be a well-known gangster. whatsappA joint team of PS DBG Road and PS Cyber, Central District, Delhi Police, have arrested three men, including one graduate from the London School of Economics, in connection with a money extortion case. The group allegedly tried extorting money through international WhatsApp calls and cryptocurrency payments, reported PTI, citing officials. According to the officials, the trio posed as associates of a notorious gangster to instil fear in their victims. They were traced to Thailand, where they had fled to evade detection, and were arrested upon their return to India. The incident came to light after a complainant approached PS DBG Road, reporting a threatening WhatsApp call from an international number. In the complaint, it was alleged that the caller, who claimed to be a well-known gangster, demanded money and sent a cryptocurrency QR code for payment. The threats intensified when the victim was warned that his children would be shot if he didn't comply. The police filed a complaint under Section 308(4) BNS, and an investigation into the case was launched. Technical teams employed advanced and paid cyber tools to trace the international WhatsApp call and the origin of the cryptocurrency QR code—both of which were linked to Thailand. The officials tracked down the accused in coordination with i4C, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and analysed previous crypto transactions, ultimately tracking the suspects in Thailand. While Indian surveillance teams monitored their local addresses, authorities moved quickly once the suspects re-entered India, leading to their immediate arrest. During interrogation, the trio confessed to being under severe financial stress and were seeking an 'easy way" out. They have been identified as Sumit, a resident of West Punjabi Bagh, Delhi, Prince from Roshanara Road, near Pulbangash, and Nitish, a resident of DLF Capital Green, Moti Nagar, Delhi, and an LSE master's graduate. 5 U'khand Cong zila panchayat men 'abducted', HC seeks report
NAINITAL/DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand HC sought a detailed report from Nainital district magistrate and SSP after five Congress zila panchayat members allegedly went missing during polling for chairperson election Friday in Nainital. High court listed the matter for hearing Monday and said it was "shocking" that armed police were seen turning away while one member was being dragged away. Congress zila panchayat president candidate Pushpa Negi reached HC with 10 other members and party functionaries, alleging five members were stopped from reaching the booth. Their counsel played a video in court, showing one member being dragged away by unidentified men. SSP PN Meena and DM Vandana Singh told HC they had not yet seen the video. SP Jagdish Chandra said a case was registered against unknown persons under sections BNS sections 140(3) (wrongful restraint with common intention), 174 (non-attendance in obedience to an order from a public servant), 221 (intentional omission to apprehend by a public servant bound to apprehend), and 223 (escape from lawful custody). He said police were actively searching for the five members.
