Marion Cotillard and Guillaume Canet split

The Advertiser28-06-2025
Marion Cotillard and Guillaume Canet have split.
The 49-year-old actor and the 52-year-old film director have announced they are separating with "common accord" and "mutual goodwill" after 18 years together.
They announced the split in a statement to the Agence France-Presse news agency, saying they were making the announcement in order "to avoid all speculation, rumours and risky interpretations".
They did not reveal a reason for the split.
The pair starred opposite each other in 2003's Love Me If You Dare and they began dating in 2007.
In 2011 they welcomed their first child, a son named Marcel and in 2017, they had a baby girl.
While pregnant with her daughter, Cotillard was forced to deny speculation of a romance with her Allied co-star Brad Pitt amid his split from Angelina Jolie.
Cotillard wrote on Instagram at the time: "This is going to be my first and only reaction to the whirlwind news that broke 24 hours ago and that I was swept up into. I am not used to commenting on things like this nor taking them seriously but as this situation is spiralling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up."
"Firstly, many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting. He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need.
"I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both whom I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment."
Canet also called out "the haters" who spread the "stupid and unfounded accusations".

Popular Aussie band ‘heartbroken' over violent attack of woman at gig

Popular Australian band Rüfüs Du Sol has spoken after a young mother was savagely beaten when she accidentally spilled her drink on a male concertgoer. Shelby Elston, 33, was preparing to watch Rüfüs Du Sol at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, when the stranger attacked her on Saturday. Footage shows the unidentified man throwing multiple punches at Elston, as another woman attempted to hold him back. She was with her fiancé, Cain Webb, at the time. '(I'm) still trying to find the words to describe exactly what happened to us last night,' Elston wrote on Facebook, saying she drove to see her 'favourite artist' only to miss the entire show. Elston explained: 'As soon as we got into the venue ... (we) grabbed a drink and sat down in our seats in the stands. 'The boys ... went to the bathroom. When they came back Cain accidentally knocked his drink over that was sitting next to my leg and splashed a little bit onto that man in front of us. 'We immediately apologised, but this man started screaming in our face that we did it on purpose. 'He ran off into the crowd leaving his girlfriend behind. 'We again apologised to her for the drink incident and left it at that.' Shelby Elston, 33, and fiancé Cain Webb were targeted at a Rüfüs Du Sol gig in Pasadena on Saturday night. Elston said he got into her fiancé's face, allegedly telling him he would 'kill him' if it happened again. 'That is the last thing I remember before waking up in the medical tent an hour later,' she wrote. 'This man PUNCHED ME IN THE FACE! I was completely knocked out and there was blood pouring from my face. He continued to attack Cain while Ralph attempted to block him from the hits.' The man ran off into the crowd, not to be seen again. The Aussie music outfit released a statement on Instagram after the attack. Credit: Instagram A report was made to Pasadena police. Rüfüs Du Sol, which consists of Tyrone Lindqvist, Jon George and James Hunt, later released a statement on Instagram. 'Delivering moments for our fans to gather and celebrate safely is what we live for. We have been heartbroken to hear of the act of violence that took place during the opening act on Saturday,' they wrote. 'This type of behaviour is completely unacceptable anywhere and the fact that this happened at one of our shows was devastating to learn about.'

The reason Home and Away fans declared Lynne McGranger's final Home and Away scene 'ruined her legacy' as actress exits show after 33 years

Irene Roberts has been given her long-awaited send-off from Summer Bay - but not everyone was impressed. The Home and Away character, played by Lynne McGranger for 33 years, left the famous coastal town in Tuesday's episode to travel the world before her Alzheimer's disease gets the better of her. Viewers watched in despair as Irene, once known for her sharpness, suffered memory loss in recent weeks as part of her exit storyline. And her final episode drew all the emotion fans of the Aussie soap had left. Irene prepared a farewell get-together with other cast members, declaring she wants to "see old friends while I still remember them". However, as Irene left her tearful cast to make the most out of her life and travel to the world, fans felt the episode was "disappointing". The problem, according to viewers, was familiar old cast members were not invited back to see Irene go, with even some current ones missing. "Wished that there were more older characters making an effort to wish her well even if it was a video or online chat," one person wrote on X. "Would have been nice to have some flashbacks as she was leaving or some old faces to send her off," another person chimed. "Felt a little off that the whole cast wasn't there." A second disgruntled fan said the missing cast members who did not attend Irene's farewell should feel "shame" for doing so. Another added the staple character's final send off was "terrible" with "lots of didn't they bring back some old familiar faces!" "I'm digging this party send-off vibe for Irene, but why the random extras at an intimate gathering?" one more fan said. However, others were too moved by the emotional rendition of Alex Lloyd's Amazing as Irene waltzed with John Palmer (Shane Withington) to even consider how Irene's send-off could have been made better. After Irene announced she was leaving Summer Bay to travel the world, she faced resistance from John, who, despite seeming concerned about her Alzheimer's disease, was too proud to admit he would miss her. "Here, Here, John! I'm going to miss seeing their friendship *sigh*," one satisfied fan wrote on Instagram. "Great song choice for sure! Irene looked stunning and so happy!" wrote another. "Irene's last episode with her friends was beautiful and very special," one more person said. As Irene was driven away at last, she took one last glance at the Bay community, and a note she had written was read aloud. 'Most importantly, take care of each other. At the end of the day, that's what matters. Friends and family,' she said. The final episode aired after McGranger won Gold at the 2025 Logie Awards at Sydney's The Star earlier this month, marking a celebrated end to the 72-year-old's arguably most loved role as Irene Roberts. McGranger is not retiring yet, however, and has now traded Summer Bay for standing ovations. She is on the road touring with the play, The Grandparents Club, in which she plays modern grandmother Liz, who is navigating family complexities. 'I'm not retiring, absolutely not,' McGranger told The Daily Telegraph earlier this month. 'If I had the opportunity to come back to television at some point, of course I would consider it depending on the role and the show…but not another 33 years because otherwise I'd be very, very old.' She described the momentous last few weeks as "the world's colliding" with Irene's storyline ending, a shift to live acting and now a Logies win. Reflecting on her time on Home and Away, she said she is very comfortable with her decision to leave the show, taking with her the record as the longest-serving female cast member of a TV soap in Australia.
