Fortnite matchmaking down as Epic Games suffers server issues right before PS Cup
A mystery bug struck Fortnite this morning, leaving players unable to join games from inside its launcher and creating a huge wave of frustration.
Epic Games confirmed this morning that Fortnite is experiencing a major outage. Players on all platforms can't access the game's online matchmaking and, therefore, can't play the game, and it's pretty bad timing.
The battle royale title is set to undergo some major downtime in a few days when the Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2 end time comes around, but as players aim to get their last games in before the Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3 release date arrives, it seems they're simply unable right now. Here's the latest about Fortnite matchmaking being down.
Is Fortnite matchmaking down?
The news was revealed on Twitter by the @FortniteStatus account, which announced that "We are investigating an issue where players may not be able to matchmake into a session. We'll provide an update once we have more information." It seems this issue is leaving players on the message "waiting for matchmaking to commence" on the lobby, as Twitter user @BrookksyFN has reported that the game is causing them issues while they're streaming.
As of the time of writing, the Fortnite Status website has reported that it is investigating the issue, and will report back to players when the company has more information, but it's more likely that it will return with an update once a fix is delivered. It's pretty terrible timing, especially as many players are preparing for the latest PS Cup to go live shortly, which was revealed back in March by @FNCompetitve. Epic Games needs to have a fix up its sleeve, or it'll be dealing with a lot of frustrated players.

Musk's X reaches tentative settlement with former Twitter workers in $500 million lawsuit
Elon Musk 's X has reached a tentative settlement with former employees of the company then known as Twitter who'd sued for $500 million in severance pay. The parties disclosed the deal in a Wednesday court filing asking for a scheduled Sept. 17 hearing in the case to be postponed. The San Francisco federal appeals court on Thursday agreed to postpone the hearing so that both sides could finalize the settlement agreement. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed. The proposed class action lawsuit by former Twitter employees Courtney McMillan and Ronald Cooper, who said the company failed to pay them and other fired workers severance they were owed. Musk took over the social media platform in 2022 and let thousands of employees go, eliminating entire teams dedicated to trust and safety, human rights and making the site accessible to people with disabilities. Other lawsuits, including one filed by Twitter executives including former CEO Parag Agrawal, are still pending. The billionaire's approach to gutting Twitter's workforce served as a template for his months-long leadership of President Donald Trump's Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, as it cut tens of thousands of federal workers earlier this year. An email announcing a 'deferred resignation offer' to federal workers, promising pay through September without having to work, was titled 'Fork in the Road,' echoing a similar email Musk sent to the Twitter workforce in 2022. Musk's drawn-out legal battles with more than 2,000 former Twitter workers were also a precursor to the court battles the Trump administration is now fighting over federal downsizing, though the circumstances are different.

Coronation Street Jack Webster's 'incredibly proud' news prompts co-star praise
Kyran Bowes was flooded with praise from his co-stars following some big news. Coronation Street star Kyran Bowes, who plays Jack Webster on the soap was praised by his co-stars after he shared some big news. The actor has grown up on the screen having joined the ITV show in 2016, taking over the role from twins Jaxon and Maddox Beswick. His on-screen birth was portrayed by twins Alex and Ellis Williamson. Fans of the soap will be aware that Jack is the teenage son of mechanic Kevin Webster and tragic Molly Dobbs, who died in the Weatherfield tram disaster. Jack has had an eventful young life on the cobbles, including a brush with death after battling sepsis which resulted in a life-saving surgery to have his leg amputated, reports Manchester Evening News. But away from his acting career, Kyran's latest social media update revealed his achievements off the screen. Taking to Instagram during A-Levels results day last week, the soap star shared: "The results are in…. "I am incredibly proud to say I received a Distinction Star, Distinction, Distinction in my Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development Course. "I have always enjoyed sports in my spare time, playing in football matches, refereeing at weekends for children's matches, helping out at sports clubs in the school holidays as well as my filming and I have worked really hard for this so I'm super proud of myself. "Thank you to my tutors, friends and family who have supported me all the way." And his Corrie pals were quick to show their love and support. Toyah Battersby actress Georgia Taylor said: "Oh well done, love!!" Vicky Myers, who plays DS Lisa Swain, replied: "Fantastic news! Congratulations." Leanne Battersby star Jane Danson wrote: "Congratulations darling! Fab news!" Joe Duttine, who stars as Tim Metcalfe, commented: "Well done Kyran." Sam Blakeman actor Jude Riordan posted: "Congrats Kyran." Amy Barlow star Elle Mulvaney added: "Well done Kyran!" Kyran later took to X (formerly known as Twitter), to thanks those who sent messages. He said: "Thank you so much to everybody that has sent me messages the last few days about my exam results! It means alot." In other Corrie news, an ex member of the beloved cast is to appear on the upcoming series of I'm A Celebrity. Adam Hussain, who plays Aadi Alahan, has been a fixture on the cobbles since his debut in 2006, alongside his twin sister Asha (Tanisha Gorey). Originally portrayed by Zennon Ditchett, Adam took over the role in 2020 - and it's safe to say Aadi's been embroiled in some serious drama. Recently the character inadvertently spiked Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) at a party. Fans have been bracing for Aadi's exit since April, when actor Adam Hussain announced his departure from the ITV soap. But he'll be reappearing on our screens far from the cobbles this autumn, in the Australian I'm A Celeb jungle. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Jake Paul told his plan to fight Anthony Joshua after Gervonta Davis will fail
Jake Paul was reportedly in line to face both Anthony Joshua and Gervonta Davis, but the American has been dealt a blow as the heavyweight intends to move on Jake Paul has suffered a significant setback in his quest to secure bouts with both Anthony Joshua and Gervonta Davis after confirmation the heavyweight plans to pursue other opportunities. The YouTuber-turned-pugilist is set to return to action on November 14 against Davis in an exhibition match at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. This marks Paul's second outing of the year following his victory over former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in June. For several weeks, it appeared highly probable that the American would clash with Joshua in a heavyweight encounter early next year. The British fighter's promoter, Eddie Hearn, recently disclosed that the YouTuber-turned-boxer was leading the race for the fight. Paul was so keen to share the ring with the heavyweight sensation that he was prepared to accept just ONE PER CENT of the prize money. Nevertheless, despite the latest developments, Paul suggested he still has Joshua in his sights. In a message posted on X - previously Twitter - the social media star declared he would "kill David," then "slaughter Goliath" - possibly hinting at his desire to face the two-time heavyweight champion next year, reports All Out Fighting. "His nickname might be Tank, but I'm an FPV drone and I'm about to disable tiny boy. Yes, he's one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world, but my motto is anyone, anytime, anyplace, against all odds. And I like my odds. First, I am going to kill David, then I will go on to slaughter Goliath," Paul wrote. Despite cryptically revealing his plans for the next year or so, it now appears more likely that Joshua will move on - serving as a real blow to Paul. In an interview with FightHype, 'AJ's' promoter Hearn clarified the Brit's future, explaining that the 35 year old will fight another opponent in either January or February. When asked whether he has spoken to the British boxer since the Paul news, he replied: "No. He was quite chilled about the whole thing anyway. He is kind of like that guy that just says 'look, just phone me when it is done.' And, until it is done, I do not think a lot of it. I do not know if it is real or not, but whatever. We were talking about a fight in February or March. We knew that Jake Paul might fight November. I did not expect it to be Gervonta (Davis)." Hearn added: "I do not know how it affects us in terms of would we do the fight. The issue is, we are not going to wait until November. I won't speak on his behalf like that, but I doubt we commit to the fight until the Tank fight is over. We are not going to wait until November to make our move. So it is very likely that AJ will fight January, February, now probably against someone else." Regarding who's lined up next for Joshua - that remains unclear. The two-time world champion hasn't stepped into the ring since his devastating knockout loss to Daniel Dubois. Recently, Dubois' manager, Sam Jones, suggested that a rematch between the pair of heavyweights could be in the pipeline. "The rematch with AJ is always there. I'm a big AJ fan - I've made no secret of that," Jones told Sky Sports. "He's a proud man, and I know he won't want to keep seeing that knockout by Daniel on his screen. I'm sure he'll want to right that wrong. And if he ever wants to, then let's get it on. It's all about what's best for Daniel now - WBO, IBF, WBC. He belongs at the top table in heavyweight boxing. He's an elite-level heavyweight. All those names you mentioned - Daniel will be back in the mix."
