Marine police foil timber theft in Semporna waters

SEMPORNA: Marine police thwarted an attempt by two men to transport suspected stolen Seraya sawn timber from the Pulau Timbun Mata forest reserve early Wednesday morning. Sabah Region Four Marine Commander ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said a team on patrol in Tobo-Tobo waters intercepted a speedboat loaded with logs around 1.30am.
Advertisement A local man aged 41 and a 42-year-old foreigner were detained during the operation, with the total seizure, including the boat and engine, valued at RM30,350. In a separate raid off Kampung Panji waters, the Marine Police seized 663kg of subsidised cooking oil abandoned in a speedboat believed to be intended for smuggling to a neighbouring country. BEAUFORT: A teacher from SK Padang Berempah, Ag Kujai Wahab, 52, who went missing while searching for his buffaloes on Thursday morning, was found safe on Friday afternoon. District Fire and Rescue Station chief Ishak Jabas said a search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched with the help of police and local villagers. Advertisement The victim was reported missing by his family after he failed to return from the Nabahan Weston area, where he had gone to look for his buffaloes. The fire team travelled by boat from the Weston jetty to Kampung Nabahan and established an incident command post to coordinate the operation. Man nabbed for drug trafficking in Sibu, meth worth RM12,000 seized

SIBU (June 6): A police operation along Jalan Hua Kiew here on Thursday led to the arrest of a local man for suspected drug trafficking. Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the 29-year-old suspect was detained around 1.30pm after he was found in possession of 46 plastic packets containing a substance believed to be methamphetamine. 'The drugs had a gross weight of 60.3 grammes and estimated to be worth RM12,060. 'Also seized from the suspect was a sedan car estimated to be worth RM30,000,' he said in a statement today. Zulkipli said the suspect, who tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, did not have any prior criminal record. The case, he added, is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for the death sentence or life imprisonment, and not less than 15 strokes of the cane if not sentenced to death. Police seek eight individuals linked to criminal cases
