TMC lauds PM's ‘poribartan'

Kolkata:
on Friday feted the "poribartan (change)" in Prime Minister
hours after he began his speech at Durgapur with "Jai Ma Kali, Jai Ma Durga".
"The PM said he wants poribartan (change).

But what has changed? The change has come in Narendra Modi. He has shifted from chanting 'Jai Sri Ram' to 'Jai Ma Kali' and 'Jai Ma Durga'. Such a transformation shows Bengal's soil has changed him," Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said at a press meet where 'singara' and 'jalebi' were served to all as a reminder to the now-withdrawn diktat against these traditional Indian snacks by the central govt.
Accusing
of using God as "a political brand ambassador" and, therefore, leaning on Lord Ram, Ghosh said, "Some leaders on the dais chanted Jai Sri Ram today as well, but the PM quickly made his stance clear by paying homage to Ma Kali and Ma Durga."
At the same press meet, minister Chandrima Bhattacharya slammed the PM for claiming that youth were fleeing the state due to a lack of jobs. "Bengali labourers are skilled, which is why they work all over India," she said, and drawing attention to the harassment of Bengali-speaking workers in BJP-governed states, she added, "You are hindering the right to speech and movement. You are insulting Bengalis. Your double-engine govts are expelling Bengalis, labelling them Rohingya.
It is clear that you are under pressure to learn Bengali. Why didn't you criticise the expelling of Bengalis from BJP-governed states?"
In a post on X, Trinamool Congress also demanded answers to five questions: "Is speaking Bangla a crime? If yes, does that make him a criminal too for singing the National Anthem and National Song, both written in Bangla? If no, why are Bengali-speaking citizens being detained and deported in BJP-ruled states? Which provision of the Constitution allows state-sponsored persecution based on language? And does BJP truly believe this is how they'll earn the mandate of the people of Bengal?"
Countering the PM's claims on women being unsafe in Bengal, Bhattacharya asked, "Do you have deep concern for women? What about the girl in Odisha who burned herself to death? You said nothing about her.
Tired of too many ads? go ad free now
Here, all crimes against women are taken seriously, with quick arrests, be it RG Kar or the law college incident. We criticise such crimes."
Ghosh alleged the PM was engaging in political deceit since he had arrived in Bengal empty-handed, without settling the state's NREGA scheme dues worth Rs 1.7 lakh crores. "He spoke of an invisible Rs 5,000 crore and is spreading falsehoods. He promised 22 crore jobs, but in reality, only 22 lakh jobs were provided.
He is only spreading lies. BJP will not even get 50 seats in the upcoming state election," he said.
Earlier in the day, minister Sashi Panja criticised the Centre for their inability to nab the terrorists behind the Pahalgam attack. "It has been 88 days since 26 people were brutally killed in the Pahalgam terror attack, yet the nation has received no answers. Who allowed terrorists to infiltrate 200 km, kill, and vanish undetected? If this is a security lapse, it is also a grave intelligence failure. Bengal demands to know, where are the attackers? What happened after the sketches were released? Silence is not an option," she said.

Next Vice President? Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Picks THIS OBC Leader From BJP

HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday accused the BJP of stalling 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) by using Muslim community as an excuse. He alleged that the leaders of saffron party were playing politics of sentiment by stating that they would back 42 percent quota for BCs if Muslims are removed from the list of BCs. Addressing a press conference in Delhi, he clarified that Muslims are being extended the benefits of reservation on the basis of their backwardness. He dared BJP to scrap reservation for Muslims in the states ruled by it or its allies. He asked why the BJP was not scrapping Muslim quota in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. He alleged that BJP is adopting double standards on the issue of Muslim reservation and trying to derive political mileage by whipping up passions. 'You can't have one justice for Telangana and another justice for other states,' he remarked. He warned that if BJP oppose Backward Class reservation, the party will be wiped out from Telangana. Revanth Reddy along with some state ministers and Congress leaders arrived in the national capital to mobilise support of various parties for including two state laws for 42 per cent Backward Class reservation in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution. The Chief Minister recalled that the state legislature passed two Bills for 42 per cent quota for BCs in education, employment and public life and sent the same to the Centre for including in the 9th Schedule. Revanth Reddy also pointed out that the local body elections have to be conducted in the state by September as per the direction of the High Court. 'If 42 percent seats in local bodies are to be reserved for the BCs, the Centre will have to give its approval,' he said. The Chief Minister said there was no justification in the argument that total reservations should not cross 50 per cent. He claimed that the Centre crossed this limit long back with 10 per cent reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). The Chief Minister also demanded that a leader from Telangana should be made the Vice-President of India. Revanth Reddy said Bandaru Dattatreya, whose tenure as Haryana Governor has just ended, should be made Vice-President. He alleged that since Dattatreya is an OBC leader he was sidelined to make G. Kishan Reddy the union minister. He said similarly Bandi Sanjay was removed as state BJP president and a Brahmin was recently appointed as the state BJP chief.

BJP calls for development of Tier-2, Tier-3 cities for equitable growth and control urban migration

BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Wednesday has highlighted the need for development to the Tier-2 and Tier -3 cities of Telangana for ensuring equitable growth distribution. It is not enough for Hyderabad capital region alone to be developed as rest of Telangana too should be brought onto the growth path and urban migration can be controlled only when sufficient employment opportunities should be created in the rural areas, he observed. Giving an insight into the party's road map for growth and development of the State at an event organised by the Federation of Telangana Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI) here, the State president has pointed out that the Central government has laid lot of emphasis on promoting start ups as well as small, medium and micro level enterprises which provide more employment opportunities. A separate Skill Development Ministry has been formed yet the industry is looking for skilled manpower, averred the former MLC and wondered if any policy level changes were necessary to deal with it. There is no development in the corporate sector and despite the Opposition accusing Centre of being a 'suit boot sarkar', it has created an ennobling environment for firms to thrive, he claimed. The BJP-led government at the Centre has been aiding Telangana and Hyderabad in building the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR) and also the circular rail network abutting it to provide better connectivity. Mr. Rao called upon the youth to ride on the entrepreneurship model making use of the new age technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Semi-Conductors and others so that they can turn to job givers than job seekers. The Modi government initiatives has led to direct benefit transfer of schemes with the opening of bank accounts to those sections untouched with the banking sector, he said and sought suggestions from the organisation for improving upon the ease of doing businesses rules. FTCCI president R. Ravikumar and others were present.

Assam's Muslim population will match Hindus by 2041, says CM Himanta

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday claimed that the population of Muslims in Assam will be almost equal to that of the Hindus by 2041 if the current growth rate is maintained. Addressing a press conference after a cabinet meeting here, Sarma claimed that out of around 34 per cent Muslims as per the 2011 Census, 31 per cent were those who had migrated to Assam earlier. When asked if Assamese indigenous people will become a minority after some years, he said, "This is not my take, it is just the Census result. Today as per the 2011 Census, 34 per cent of the population is Muslim." Out of the total Muslim population of the state, three per cent are indigenous Assamese Muslims, Sarma stated. "...then the 31 per cent are the Muslims who had migrated to Assam. And if you project that for 2021, 2031 and 2041, you will come to almost a 50:50 position. I am just stating what the statistical census report says," he claimed. The CM said that empirical data and past census records show that in a few years from now, Assam's Muslim population will be close to 50 per cent. According to the 2011 Census, Assam had a total Muslim population of 1.07 crore, making up 34.22 per cent of the total 3.12 crore residents of the state. There were 1.92 crore Hindus in the state, around 61.47 per cent of the total population. The BJP has been regularly highlighting the demographic change, stating that at least nine districts became Muslim majority as per 2011 Census, up from six in 2001 and the number has increased to at least 11 at present, although the 2021 census report is yet to be prepared. In 2001, when Assam had 23 districts, Muslims were in majority in six -- Dhubri (74.29), Goalpara (53.71), Barpeta (59.37), Nagaon (51), Karimganj (52.3) and Hailakandi (57.63). The number of districts increased to 27 in 2011 and nine out of them had Muslim majority. These were Dhubri (79.67), Goalpara (57.52), Barpeta (70.74), Morigaon (52.56), Nagaon (55.36), Karimganj (56.36), Hailakandi (60.31), Bongaigaon (50.22) and Darrang (64.34). When asked about the eviction drives, Sarma claimed that around 29 lakh bighas (almost 10 lakh acres) of land are under encroachment in the state. "Eviction drives will continue... (but) I cannot do planning for so much land. My lifespan will be over, but then also the entire encroached land will not be vacated," he added. On Monday, Sarma had claimed that these huge amounts of land were under encroachment of "illegal Bangladeshis and doubtful citizens" in the state. He had also claimed that his government came under "international pressure" to put a stop to eviction drives after the operation at Gorukhuti in Darrang district soon after assuming power in 2021, but people were not dissuaded.
