Commenting on the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu, the BJP leader said it is deteriorating. 'Incidents such as sexual assaults, murders, and crimes committed under the influence of ganja reflect the worsening situation,' he alleged.
On the delay in releasing the Keezhadi excavation report, Nagenthran said he would take up the matter with the Union government.

Delhi HC asks Yasin Malik to respond to NIA's plea for death penalty
The Delhi High Court on Monday (August 11, 2025) sought separatist leader Yasin Malik's response on a plea filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) seeking death penalty for him in a terror funding case. A Bench of Justices Vivek Chaudhary and Shalinder Kaur granted four weeks to Malik to file his response to the NIA's petition while posting the hearing for November 10. Malik, who previously sought to argue in-person against NIA's plea seeking the enhancement, was supposed to appear virtually from jail but was not produced. The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chief (JKLF) is lodged in Tihar jail where he is serving a life term in the case. On Monday, the Bench directed the jail authorities to produce him virtually on November 10. On May 24, 2022, a trial court sentenced Malik to life imprisonment after holding him guilty for offences under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and IPC. Malik had pleaded guilty to the charges, including those under the UAPA, and was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. Appealing against the sentence, the NIA emphasised that a terrorist cannot be sentenced life term just because he has pleaded guilty and chosen not to go through trial.

Honour killings a national problem requiring a separate law: Thirumavalavan
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan on Monday said 'honour killings' was not just a State- level problem but a national one. Such killings were committed not only in Tamil Nadu but also in other States including in Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Maharastra, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh. Such killings should not be treated as an ordinary crime but one that required special attention by enacting a separate law at the national level by the ruling BJP-led government at the Centre, Mr. Thirumavalavan said leading a protest demonstration organised by the VCK at Perambalur. The demonstration was held to urge the State government and the Centre to enact a law to prevent honour killings. The VCK had been continuously emphasising the need for a special law to prevent honour killings for several years, he said citing several such crimes reported in various parts of Tamil Nadu. The VCK alone had been condemning such heinous crimes in Tamil Nadu by mobilising the people. 'The bigger parties and the newer ones in Tamil Nadu do not speak in cases of murder of Dalits. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader and cine actor Vijay could not even condemn such killings. AIADMK leader and former Chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami who had been criticising the DMK government did not even meet the family members of the murdered Dalit victim Kavin in Tirunelveli,' he alleged. He claimed the VCK alone had the guts to fight against social injustice. He wondered as to why the AIADMK could not hold a state-wide demonstration on the issue of caste killings. 'Parties want the votes of Dalits but would not speak in support of them', he said. The Left parties had been protesting the cruelty and violence against the Dalits. Similar demonstrations were organised in Tiruchi City and Mayiladuthurai as well.

M K Stalin Coimbatore: Chief minister M K Stalin said on Monday that AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami was frustrated by the success of DMK govt's welfare programmes and that his defeat in the 2026 assembly election would begin from western Tamil Nadu. Stalin said EPS presumed himself to be on a par with late AIADMK leaders M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa, but the fact was his own partymen mock him, Stalin said at a welfare distribution event at Udumalpet in Tirupur district. Announcing a slew of projects for Tirupur district, Stalin said the DMK was implementing multiple development projects in western TN whereas the AIADMK had only scuttled projects that were brought by DMK in the past.
