Honour killings a national problem requiring a separate law: Thirumavalavan
Such killings should not be treated as an ordinary crime but one that required special attention by enacting a separate law at the national level by the ruling BJP-led government at the Centre, Mr. Thirumavalavan said leading a protest demonstration organised by the VCK at Perambalur. The demonstration was held to urge the State government and the Centre to enact a law to prevent honour killings.
The VCK had been continuously emphasising the need for a special law to prevent honour killings for several years, he said citing several such crimes reported in various parts of Tamil Nadu. The VCK alone had been condemning such heinous crimes in Tamil Nadu by mobilising the people.
'The bigger parties and the newer ones in Tamil Nadu do not speak in cases of murder of Dalits. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader and cine actor Vijay could not even condemn such killings. AIADMK leader and former Chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami who had been criticising the DMK government did not even meet the family members of the murdered Dalit victim Kavin in Tirunelveli,' he alleged.
He claimed the VCK alone had the guts to fight against social injustice. He wondered as to why the AIADMK could not hold a state-wide demonstration on the issue of caste killings. 'Parties want the votes of Dalits but would not speak in support of them', he said. The Left parties had been protesting the cruelty and violence against the Dalits. Similar demonstrations were organised in Tiruchi City and Mayiladuthurai as well.

Har Ghar Tiranga yatra celebrated with patriotic fervour
Hyderabad: The 'Har Ghar Tiranga' yatra, organised by the BJP, was celebrated with immense enthusiasm across Telangana as part of the nationwide campaign, despite alleged hurdles posed by the state's Congress-led government. Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao led the yatra at two prominent locations—Necklace Road and JNTU Kukatpally. The event witnessed participation from party leaders, workers, students, and citizens, all united in a display of patriotic spirit. Addressing the gathering at Necklace Road, Rao stated that while the yatra is officially organised in BJP-ruled states, in Telangana, people—especially students—are voluntarily joining the initiative. He announced that the national flag would be hoisted on 40 lakh homes across the state, describing it as a powerful symbol of unity, dignity, and national pride. Rao emphasized that the yatra, launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is instilling a deep sense of patriotism in every Indian. He noted that the campaign commemorates the 79th Independence Day and pays tribute to the sacrifices of countless freedom fighters and visionary leaders who secured India's independence. In a sharp political statement, Rao accused the Congress party of having supported British and Pakistani interests during the partition of India, which he claimed led to the plundering of the nation's wealth. He urged participants to pledge their commitment to safeguarding India's unity, integrity, and cultural heritage. The yatra in Hyderabad proceeded from Necklace Road to the B.R. Ambedkar statue near the Secretariat, while in Kukatpally, it moved from JNTU to the HUDA Truck Park. Despite the festive atmosphere, Rao revealed that he had been placed under house arrest by the police on August 12, allegedly to prevent his participation in the event. The BJP's Har Ghar Tiranga campaign has gained momentum across Telangana, with citizens actively engaging in flag-hoisting ceremonies and public marches. The initiative aims to foster a collective sense of national pride and reinforce the values of democracy and unity. As the state prepares to celebrate Independence Day, the yatra stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of patriotism among the people of Telangana, transcending political barriers and reaffirming their commitment to the nation, the BJP chief said.

BJP to launch campaign against ‘love jihad' in Kerala
KOCHI: Ignoring the political turmoil over 'vote theft', the reconstituted core committee of the state BJP, which met in Kochi on Thursday, decided to concentrate on preparations for the upcoming local body and assembly elections. The committee also decided to launch a campaign against 'love jihad' and support the family of Sona Eldhose of Kothamangalam, who died by suicide recently following alleged religious conversion attempt, to fight the case legally. Party state vice-president Shone George will lead the campaign. The meeting congratulated the leadership for its effort to ensure the release of the nuns who were arrested in Chhattisgarh. 'The people who ran to Chhattisgarh pretending to help the nuns have not opened their mouths against the Kothamangalam incident where a girl was driven to suicide in the name of love. The LDF and the UDF are alarmed by the increasing influence of the BJP among the Christians and are spreading lies to misguide the community,' said general secretary S Suresh. The core committee also condemned the alleged attempts of the LDF and UDF to tarnish the image of Thrissur MP and Union Minister Suresh Gopi. In addition, the meeting finalised the road map for a 100-day campaign.

Trump Says Putin "Ready To Make A Deal" Ahead Of Alaska Summit: Top Points
Washington: Ahead of his meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska, US President Donald Trump said he believes his Russian counterpart is ready to make a deal to end the war in Ukraine. Here Are Top Points On Trump-Putin's Alaska Summit Putin is set to fly to Alaska on Friday at the invitation of Trump in his first visit to the United States since he ordered the 2022 invasion of Ukraine that has killed tens of thousands of people. This is Putin and Trump's first face-to-face meeting in seven years. On the eve of the high-stakes summit on Friday (local time), the American leader said he would not be intimidated by the Russian President and promised not to finalise any deal with Putin before a three-way meeting also including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Talking to reporters at the White House, Trump said, "I am president, and he's not going to mess around with me...I'll know within the first two minutes, three minutes, four minutes or five minutes... whether or not we're going to have a good meeting or a bad meeting." "And if it's a bad meeting, it'll end very quickly, and if it's a good meeting, we're going to end up getting peace in the pretty near future," said Trump, who gave the summit 25 per cent chances of failure. The American said that he believes Putin is heading to Anchorage in Alaska, wanting to make a deal to end the war in Ukraine. "I believe now he's convinced that he's going to make a deal. He's going to make a deal. I think he's going to. And we're going to find out - I'm going to know very quickly," Trump said. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was not invited to the Alaska summit, which he has denounced as a reward to Putin, and has refused Trump's calls to surrender territory. Trump promised not to finalise any deal with Putin and said he hoped to hold a three-way summit with Zelensky, possibly immediately afterwards in Alaska. He also said his goal is to move toward a trilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, suggesting "three different locations" are on the table - including the possibility of "staying in Alaska". "The second meeting is going to be very, very important, because that's going to be a meeting where they make a deal. And I don't want to use the word 'divvy' things up. But you know, to a certain extent, it's not a bad term," Trump told Fox News Radio. He warned that Russia would face "very severe consequences" if Putin refused to agree to a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. At the start of his second term, Trump was conciliatory toward Putin, for whom he has long shown admiration. But as Putin remained intransigent and rejected an unconditional truce proposed by Trump, the Republican leader has expressed increasing exasperation with the Russian leader, criticising him for his unbudging stance on US-led peace efforts and for prolonging the war.
