The Rookie Season 8: Latest updates on release date, cast and plot details
Fans of The Rookie are buzzing with excitement for Season 8, and it's no surprise why. This beloved ABC police procedural, led by the charming Nathan Fillion, has kept audiences hooked with its blend of heart-pounding action, deep character arcs, and just the right touch of humor. With Season 7 leaving everyone on the edge of their seats, here's a detailed look at what's coming in Season 8. Release Date: When Will The Rookie Season 8 Hit Screens?
Get ready to mark your calendars, because The Rookie Season 8 is slated to kick off in January 2026, sliding into ABC's midseason lineup. No exact premiere date has been spilled yet, but if past seasons are any clue, expect it to land on a Tuesday night at 9 p.m. ET, following the pattern of Season 7's January 2025 start. Word on the street is we're looking at a meaty 18 to 22 episodes, giving us plenty of Nolan and crew to obsess over. Filming's already rolling, with some epic scenes being shot in Prague (more on that later!), and production should wrap by late 2025. Cast: Who's Returning and Who's New?
The Rookie squad is the heart of the show, and Season 8 is bringing back the heavy hitters we love. Leading the pack is Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, the LAPD's oldest 'rookie' who's still chasing his cop dreams with that signature charm. Fillion's hyped for the new season, posting on Instagram, 'You guys made seven seasons happen, and now we're pumped to bring you Season 8—let's do this!'
The core crew joining him includes: Mekia Cox as Nyla Harper, ready to tackle whatever chaos comes her way after Season 7's rollercoaster.

Sadly, we're missing Tru Valentino as Aaron Thorsen, who exited in Season 6, though there's hope for a guest spot. Patrick Keleher's Seth Ridley is also gone after his dramatic Season 7 exit, but his threat to sue the LAPD could mean a comeback for some spicy conflict. On the villain side, Matthew Glave is back as the slippery Oscar Hutchinson, and Bridget Regan returns as the scheming Monica Stevens, ready to wreak havoc. Oh, and there's buzz about Pete Davidson possibly popping in as Nolan's half-brother, Pete, if his schedule allows. Plot Details: What's Next for the Mid-Wilshire Crew?
Season 7's finale, 'The Good, the Bad, and the Oscar,' left us with our jaws on the floor, and Season 8 is ready to pick up the pieces with a bang. The big shocker? The season opens in Prague, a curveball dropped at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2025. Nolan and Bailey are jetting to the Czech Republic to hunt down Monica Stevens, who somehow snagged an immunity deal with the FBI. Showrunner Alexi Hawley teased that Monica's storyline will dig into 'new layers' of her schemes, keeping the Mid-Wilshire crew scrambling.
Back home, the 'Chenford' drama—Lucy and Tim's romance—is front and center. After Tim's big move-in question in the Season 7 finale (and Lucy dozing off before answering!), fans are itching for what's next. Hawley's dropping hints that the couple's in a 'solid spot,' so maybe we'll see them take a big step forward. Fingers crossed!
Oscar Hutchinson's helicopter escape in Season 7 sets up another game of cat-and-mouse, with Hawley hinting at a possible 'endgame' for his arc. Meanwhile, Miles Penn's bigger role means we'll see more of his journey as a rookie cop with a unique past. Nolan and Bailey's adoption hopes, crushed last season, might also get a second look, tugging at our heartstrings. And keep an ear out for The Rookie North , a potential spin-off set in Washington state, following a middle-aged cop starting fresh—though it's still in early talks.

John Stamos can't ‘bear losing' Dave Coulier in wake of cancer battle after Bob Saget's death
Everywhere Dave Coulier looks, there's his 'Full House' family ready to support him. John Stamos, who starred with the comedian, 65, on the ABC sitcom for eight seasons, has been by his former co-star's side since his 2024 cancer diagnosis. 'Dave and I talk a lot,' the 'General Hospital' alum, 62, told Us Weekly in an interview published Wednesday. 'You know, we lost Bob [Saget], and I couldn't bear losing Dave, so I've been with him a lot during this cancer journey of his.' 10 Dave Coulier and John Stamos visit the Dannon Oikos Tent in NYC January 29. FilmMagic After being diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma last year, Coulier is now '100 percent back to Dave.' 'It's great to see that the treatments work,' Stamos continued. 'And it's great to see him out there talking about it, to help other people that are going through the same thing.' Coulier first shared his diagnosis in November 2024. 10 John Stamos supports Dave Coulier amid his cancer battle by wearing a bald cap. 'It swelled up immediately,' recounted Coulier. 'I thought, 'Wow, I'm either really sick, or my body's really reacting to something.'' The diagnosis was a complete shock to the 'America's Funniest People' host. 10 Bob Saget, John Stamos and Dave Coulier attend the Goodwill of Orange County Gala at Ritz-Carlton Laguna Nigel on November 5, 2016 in Dana Point, California. 'I'm sorry to see a bunch of negative comments as I've just begun my cancer journey,' he wrote in an Instagram statement at the time. 'It's our friendship (me and John) and this is how we are handling a very tough time,' Coulier continued. 'I'm a comedian and humor is what drives me. John knows how to cheer me up and I laughed out loud when he arrived wearing a bald cap — being a true loving friend and brother.' 10 Dave Coulier, Bob Saget, John Stamos appearing on 'Full House' in 1995. In September 2024, Coulier revealed how the remaining cast members keep their late co-star's memory alive. 'We talk about all the fun times we had,' he told Us. Don't leave the room without it.' Bure added, 'I try to laugh a lot.' 10 A still from 'Full House' Season 1. ©Warner Bros/Courtesy Everett Collection And the late star is never far from the podcast host's mind.
