Bob Odenkirk made this movie to impress his 'SNL' buddies

Bob Odenkirk is breaking bad. The 'Better Call Saul' star has revealed that he only made the 2021 action movie 'Nobody' because he wanted to impress his former 'Saturday Night Live' colleagues. 'I thought of you guys often when I was exercising and thinking that's just a reason to be doing this is if I could pull it off,' Odenkirk, 62, told Conan O'Brien during the 'Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend' podcast this week. 11 Bob Odenkirk discussing 'Nobody' and its newly released sequel during the 'Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend' podcast. While Odenkirk name-dropped O'Brien, Robert Smigel and Adam Sandler as some of the buddies he wanted to impress, the 'Breaking Bad' actor also included comedian David Spade specifically. 'I kept thinking about Spade, I don't know why,' Odenkirk, who was a writer on 'SNL' from 1987 to 1991, laughed. 'He would go see it and go like, 'What the f–k?'' 11 Adam Sandler, David Spade and the rest of the 'Saturday Night Live' cast in 1992. Although the 'Late Night' host didn't think too much of it at the time, he was quickly impressed by Odenkirk's surprising performance. 'When it came out, I was just, 'Oh, he's so good at this,'' O'Brien shared. 11 Conan O'Brien discussing 'Nobody' and its sequel during the 'Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend' podcast. Even though O'Brien did not make the cut for 'Nobody 2,' he is hoping Odenkirk releases a third film so he can land a small role. 'I just want to be beaten,' O'Brien joked. While the sequel only just hit theaters, Odenkirk still teased the possibility of a third 'Nobody' movie on Thursday during an interview with the Associated Press. The two-time Emmy-winner said that he would like to make a third film that ends with his character having nothing left. 11 Bob Odenkirk reprising his role as Hutch Mansell in 'Nobody 2.' ©Universal/Courtesy Everett Collection 11 Bob Odenkirk as Hutch Mansell in 'Nobody 2.' ©Universal/Courtesy Everett Collection 'Yeah, the moral would be that everything he loves is gone,' Odenkirk told the outlet. 'He burned everything he loved.' 'We let him get away with it because the movie is an entertainment, and it's meant to tell you: Yes, you can let go of your rage in this magical world,' the 'Glengarry Glen Ross' Broadway star continued. 'But in the end, I would think that it's an addiction. And he does want to do it. He does want to have a go, and so does every guy.' 'That's why we have movies,' Odenkirk concluded. 'And that's why we have boxing matches.'

Denzel Washington reveals that he doesn't care about cancel culture

Denzel Washington is canceling cancel culture. While promoting "Highest 2 Lowest" alongside Spike Lee, the Hollywood icon was asked if he cared about cancel culture in a recent Complex News interview with host Jillian Hardeman-Webb – and he had a surprising answer. "Do you guys consider being 'canceled'?" the host asked before Washington replied, "What does that mean, being canceled?" She responded, "It means you lose public support." "Who cares? What made public support so important to begin with?" Washington said. Hardeman-Webb responded that it was "because followers now are currency." Washington wanted none of that, claiming, "I don't care who's following. You can't lead and follow at the same time, and you can't follow and lead at the same time." Cancel culture is defined by Merriam Webster as "the practice or tendency of engaging in mass canceling as a way of expressing disapproval and exerting social pressure." It typically affects celebrities and public figures during widespread backlash over controversies. A post shared by Complex Pop (@complexpop) After adding that he only follows his faith, Washington later insisted that "you can't be canceled if you haven't signed up, don't sign up." Another thing Washington doesn't care about? The Academy Awards. The two-time Oscar winner – who boasts 10 total nominations – admitted to entertainment reporter Jake Hamilton during a recent "Jake's Takes" interview that the sought-after trophies aren't that important to him. "I don't do it for Oscars," Washington said. "I really don't care about that kind of stuff. I've been at this a long time. There's times when I won and shouldn't have won, and shouldn't have won and won ... Man gives the award. God gives the reward." "I'm not that interested in Oscars," he continued. "You know, people will ask me, well, where do you keep it? I say, next to the other one. I'm not bragging. I'm just telling you how I feel about it. On my last day, it ain't gon' do me a bit of good." Washington won his first best supporting actor Oscar in 1990 for his role in "Glory" and the 2002 best actor in a leading role award for his performance in "Training Day." His latest nod came in the best actor category in 2022 for his portrayal of the title character in "The Tragedy of Macbeth."

Tristan Rogers, who played super spy Robert Scorpio on 'General Hospital,' has died at 79

Tristan Rogers, who played legacy character Robert Scorpio on ABC's 'General Hospital,' died Friday, less than one month after he made a special appearance on the soap opera. He was 79. 'The entire 'General Hospital' family is heartbroken to hear of Tristan Rogers' passing,' said Frank Valentini, the show's executive producer, in a statement. 'Tristan has captivated our fans for 45 years and Port Charles will not be the same without him (or Robert Scorpio).' Born in Melbourne, Australia, Rogers' first foray into performing was in his early twenties and playing drums in a rock band with a group of friends. They weren't successful so Rogers turned to commercial work and modeling to earn some money. When the band dissolved, Rogers decided to give acting a try. After various roles in Australia, he also worked as a DJ and eventually moved to Los Angeles to try to break into Hollywood. He said casting directors were initially turned off by his accent but he eventually landed a two-day role on 'General Hospital' in 1980. 'I had no idea at the point how big the show was,' Rogers told fellow 'General Hospital' actor Maurice Benard on the YouTube show, 'State of Mind with Maurice Benard' in 2022. 'I had no name. I was brought in expressly to beat up the hero, Luke, (played by Anthony Geary), and then disappear,' Rogers said. His first day was half-over when then-executive producer Gloria Monty asked if he would like to stay on. They had no character written for him so for three weeks Monty asked him to just appear in scenes 'looking furtive, looking suspicious' until they came up with a storyline. It was decided he would play a spy known as 'CK8' and eventually he was given the name Robert Scorpio. The character would remain a fixture in Port Charles for the rest of Rogers' life, even when he wasn't a current cast member. Scorpio's on again/off again romance with Emma Samms' character, Holly Sutton, remained a favorite among fans. Scorpio also had a romance, and many storylines with another spy, Anna Devane, played by Finola Hughes. Scorpio and Devane shared a daughter, Robin, played by Kimberly McCullough. Samms returned to the show for a stint last fall where it was revealed that Scorpio was the father of her adult daughter, Sasha Gilmore (played by Sofia Mattson.) Rogers and Samms left the show together in November 2024 in scenes taped with a nod to 'Casablanca.' He returned to the show in July for one episode when Sasha arrived to his home in France with her new baby. It was then revealed that Rogers had lung cancer Rogers' other acting credits include 'The Bold and the Beautiful,' 'The Young & the Restless' and 'Studio City,' which won him outstanding supporting actor in a digital drama series at the Daytime Emmy Awards. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Parkerson, and a daughter and a son.
