BBC announces new series from Death in Paradise writer with 'twists and turns'
This week the BBC revealed a new series is set to air on the broadcaster basked on a popular novel series.
The BBC has revealed an "action-packed" eight-part adaptation of J. J. Arcanjo's popular novel series, and it promises to be thrilling.
Death in Paradise writer Justin Young is behind the upcoming series titled Crookhaven.
It's been described as a "coming-of-age drama full of exciting twists and turns". Crookhaven will follow a group of high-achieving young crooks at a secret school who are trained to use their skills in "deception" and "crimnastics" for good.
A synopsis for the show reads: "Centred around pickpocketing genius Gabriel and his archrival, headmaster's daughter Penelope, the series follows a group of eight very different, young international students as they compete for the coveted Crooked Cup.

Filming for Crookhaven will begin in May in Northern Ireland, with its debut expected to be next year.

Speaking about the upcoming series, author J.J. Arcanjo had nothing but excitement.
He said: 'I have always aimed to excite and inspire the young readers who pick up my books, but also the parents and grandparents who journey with them to my worlds and the TV series aligns perfectly with that.
"Together with BBC Children's and Education we have created a fun family show filled with humour, heart and plenty of clever twists. I cannot wait for Gabriel Avery and his crew of kind-hearted crooks to be brought to life and introduced to TV audiences around the world.'
The author shared the news on social media this week, admitting he's waited over two years to share the news with his followers.
It wasn't long before people commented on the TV adaptation news, with many thrilled for him.

It's not yet known who will be appearing in the BBC show, although the author revealed the casting has been done with another announcement on the horizon.

Rebecca is no novice when it comes to bringing criminals to justice, having secured the UK's first ever romance fraud conviction. Her diligent work on the case was recognised by the presiding judge. Dr Sohom Das, the second expert on the show, has a background as a forensic psychiatrist and expert witness. He has previously aided both victims and criminals during ongoing court proceedings, presenting his expert opinion to the courts. BBC Commissioning Editor Chris Achilleos further shared: "This new format from the BBC News Video on Demand team takes a serious look into how crimes, that have hit the headlines, have been solved. "Using studio-based storytelling, with detailed graphic explainers, police interviews and evidence as well as compelling testimony from those impacted - we will take audiences through the process of how crimes are solved, step by step." The programme's presenter, Calum Leslie also added: "BBC News is the home of trusted, impartial journalism and the work of our newsgathering teams across the country is what provides the journalistic rigour behind this series. The BBC has shared a sneak peek at Riot Women, which is a six-part drama due to land on BBC One later year The BBC has unveiled a first glimpse of its forthcoming television series Riot Women, boasting an impressive ensemble cast featuring stars from Downton Abbey and Beyond Paradise. The six-episode drama comes from the pen of acclaimed writer Sally Wainwright, whose previous credits include Happy Valley and Gentleman Jack, and is scheduled to debut later this year across BBC One, iPlayer and BritBox. Set and shot in the picturesque town of Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire, Riot Women chronicles the journey of five women who form an unlikely punk rock group. The production incorporates original music from the band ARXX. "A teacher, a police officer, a pub landlady, a midwife, and a shoplifting freeloader: five menopausal women form a punk rock band to take part in a local talent contest, and suddenly find they have a lot more to shout about than they ever imagined. "As they become closer, the teacher, Beth, and freeloader, Kitty, discover a surprising, heartbreaking connection," reads the BBC's official synopsis for Riot Women. The Thick of It's Joanna Scanlan takes on the role of Beth, whilst The Serpent Queen actress Rosalie Craig embodies Kitty, Sexy Beast's Tamsin Greig becomes Holly, Sherwood star Lorraine Ashbourne portrays Jess, and The Buccaneers' Amelisa Bullmore assumes the character of Yvonne. First Strictly Come Dancing confirm first star for 2025 series - and it's a Gladiator Ella fell 30ft from The Wall in a horrifying accident that almost took away her ability to walk. Whilst they both focus on recovery, the Glads have praised the care of medics on set. As the show is one of toughest and most physically demanding programmes on TV, the production team had a very robust health and safety policy in place as well as appropriate insurances. Risk assessments were carried out for all of the games and the Gladiators and contenders underwent extensive training with experts. A doctor, paramedics, technicians, physios and a trained Health and Safety advisor were all present on set every day. A spokesman for the BBC said: 'The health and well-being of all Gladiators, contenders and crew is of paramount importance. Gladiators is one of the toughest and most physically demanding programmes on TV and due to the high-impact nature of the show it is not unusual for those competing to suffer injuries. "In each instance, as soon as it became apparent that a potential injury had occurred, the correct protocol was immediately followed.
