Louisiana's best safety is committed to Ohio State. Can LSU football pull off the flip?
Safety Blaine Bradford committed to Ohio State in March, and despite his pledge seeming firm until this point, LSU isn't out of the race for the elite defensive back.
It was a hit when Bradford committed to Ohio State earlier this year, but LSU can never be counted out with Louisiana prospects. Until Bradford puts pen to paper with the Buckeyes, he can still be swayed.
A native of Baton Rouge, Bradford plays high school football at Catholic. Rivals' Industry Rankings are the highest on Bradford, slotting him at No. 2 out of Louisiana, No. 5 among safeties, and No. 47 overall.
Earlier in July, LSU hired Ohio State recruiting staffer Sam Petitto to a similar role. Petitto has deep ties to Louisiana and was instrumental in the Buckeyes' gaining Bradford's commitment. With Pettito now at LSU, there's growing optimism that LSU can make Bradford's recruitment interesting.
It wouldn't be a surprise to see Bradford turn up at LSU for a visit this fall. Several members of LSU's 2026 recruiting class are making their best pitch to the talented defensive back.

LSU football head coach Brian Kelly said the Tigers have already begun official practice for the week one battle vs. Clemson. LSU ranks No. 9 in the US LBM Coaches Poll while Clemson sits at No. 6. Where LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier's 2024 QBR ranks among returning SEC quarterbacks
LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier takes the reins of the Tigers' offense for the second-straight season heading into 2025. It's expected to be a strong year for quarterbacks in the SEC and Nussmeier is one of several returners with real experience. He stands out in one key statistic. Nussmeier's quarterback rating (QBR) from 2024 is the highest of any returning quarterback in the conference. Nussmeier's 2024 QBR of 79.0 finished fourth among SEC quarterbacks. He finished behind a top three of Ole Miss' Jaxon Dart (84.7), Alabama's Jalen Milroe (82.8) and Georgia's Carson Beck (80.9). Dart, Milroe, and Beck have all moved on. Dart and Milroe are in the NFL, and Beck is at Miami. That leaves Nussmeier as the top returner. The statistic encompasses a wide range of factors, including rushing yards, fumbles, downs, and distance, to measure a quarterback's success. Nussmeier led a strong offensive unit with top targets Kyren Lacy and Mason Taylor, but fell behind on the list due to his lack of rushing prowess. QBR is a fairly predictive stat and Nussmeier's ranking could spell big things for 2025. Ahead of his fifth season at LSU, Nussmeier is touted as one of the best passers in the country. Per BetMGM, he has the second-best odds to win the Heisman Trophy at +900, trailing only Texas quarterback Arch Manning (+600).

Notre Dame football starts off near the top in the 2025 preseason US LBM Coaches Poll
(This story was updated to add new information.) While it's hard to take a ton of stock into preseason polls, Notre Dame is still ranked as the No. 5 team in the first USA TODAY US LBM Coaches Poll of the 2025 season. The Irish are behind just a few schools: Texas, Ohio State, Penn State, and Georgia but will have a chance to move up the poll, especially considering it's first two games are against No. 10 Miami on the road and No. 21 Texas A&M at home. They'll play No. 25 Boise State in the middle of the season as well. The rest of the top-10 is Clemson, Oregon, Alabama and LSU. Other teams of note are Illinois at No. 12, Michigan at No. 14, and Indiana at No. 19. Expectations are still very high in South Bend, despite some questions marks at quarterback and on the offensive line. Like last year, the defense is expected the carry the team until the offense gets more comfortable. The tough early schedule will go a long ways into how people will perceive Notre Dame, as they start off with two tough contests.
