CM Yadav along with BJP chief Khandelwal met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting & Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs L Murugan and Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution & New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi.
'Today, during my visit to New Delhi, I met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and discussed various issues,' CM Yadav said in a post on X.
Similarly, in another post, the CM added, 'During my visit to Delhi on Tuesday, I paid a courtesy visit to Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting & Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs L Murugan. On this occasion, Madhya Pradesh BJP state President Hemant Khandelwal was also present.'
Additionally, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi shared a post on his official handle X after the meeting with CM Yadav and BJP chief Khandelwal and highlighted that they held discussion about enhancing the implementation of key schemes such as PM Surya Ghar and PM-KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan)

46 people killed in massive cloudburst in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar, rescue operations underway
46 people were killed, and 167 others were rescued from mounds of rubble after a massive cloudburst led to flashfloods in Chositi in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district on Thursday. Flash floods tore through the densely populated foothill hamlet, damaging several homes and even forcing authorities to halt the annual yatra to the Machail Mata shrine. Kishtwar, Aug 14 (ANI): Rescue operations are underway after a flash flood at the Chashoti area following a cloud burst, in Kishtwar on Thursday. Officials received news of the calamity around 11:30 am, after which SDRF, rescue teams were deployed at the site. Indian Army, Navy, Air Force teams were also activated, said Jammu's Divisional Commissioner. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described the situation as 'grim' in an official statement, confirming that a cloudburst was responsible for the flooding. Viral videos of the cloudburst captured torrents of muddy water, silt, and debris racing down the steep slopes, obliterating everything in their path. Houses crumpled like a pack of cards, while boulders crashed down, blocking roads and hampering rescue efforts. The once lush green landscape was left smothered in a bleak brown-grey. Omar Abdullah shared helpline numbers as the death toll from the cloudburst continued to rise. The August 15 'at home' tea party at the CM's residence, and other cultural events in the Union Territory planned for Independence Day, have been cancelled in the light of the tragedy. The formal events - speech, march past, will however, go ahead as planned. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences stating that 'every possible assistance will be provided to those in need'. Earlier in the day, Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Lt Gov Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take stock of the situation. If 10 centimetres rainfall is received at a station in one hour, the rain event is termed as cloudburst. This sudden discharge of large amount of water not only leads to human casualties but also loss of property.

In Independence Day Eve Address, President's 'Buy Local' Call, Op Sindoor Praise
New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu's address on the eve of Independence day mentioned two key talking points of the day -- buying local and ease of doing business. Both have been areas of concern in the aftermath of the imposition of 50 per cent tariff by the US on Indian goods. The President's address -- traditionally an apolitical one that focusses on national aims and achievements -- traced 'buy local' to its origin in the Swadeshi movement and Mahatma Gandhi's advocacy of Khadi to its modern avatar "Make in India". "Last week, on August 7, the country celebrated 'National Handloom Day' which honours our weavers and their products," President Murmu said. "Since the year 2015, we have been celebrating this day to commemorate the Swadeshi Movement launched during our freedom struggle in the year 1905. The spirit of Swadeshi was strengthened by Mahatma Gandhi to promote the products made by the sweat and toil of Indian artisans and crafts-persons, and by their incomparable skills. The idea of Swadeshi has been inspiring our national endeavours like Make-in-India initiative and Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. Let us resolve to buy and use Indian products," she said. The "ease of doing business", she said was as important as ease of living to improve the life of the common man. "For betterment of the lives of the common people there is equal emphasis on improving the ease of doing business as well as on improving the ease of living," she said. "Moreover, we are increasing our self-reliance in every area possible. This has added to our self-confidence and increased the momentum of our journey towards becoming Viksit Bharat," President Murmu added. "Radically improving the ease of doing business" as opposed to incremental reform had been part of the prescription from several analysts and industrialists including Anand Mahindra to make India a coveted destination for investors from across the world in face of spiralling US tariffs. There has also been concern about artisans with jewellery, handicraft and textile industries set to take a hit from the US tariffs. Many in the BJP have now advocated self-reliance in terms of market. Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a fresh push for 'Swadeshi', stressing that every individual must work to promote indigenous goods if "we want India to become the third-largest economy". "Whatever we buy, we should ask ourselves - has an Indian toiled to make this? If it has been made by the sweat of our people, with their skills, that product is Swadeshi for us. We must adopt the mantra of 'Vocal for Local'." Traders' groups have already pledged support for PM Modi's call to prioritise domestic goods to bolster economic self-reliance. President Murmu also cited Operation Sindor, saying it was a "test case of the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission in the defence sector". "The outcome has proved that we are on the right path. Our indigenous manufacturing has achieved the critical level that makes us self-sufficient in meeting many of our security requirements. These are landmark achievements in India's defence history since Independence," she said. "I believe Operation Sindoor will go down in history as an example in humanity's fight against terrorism... The world has taken note of India's stance, that we will not be the aggressor, but we will not hesitate to retaliate in defence of our citizens," she added.

Taken up cases of violence against Indians in Ireland, says MEA
NEW DELHI: India said on Thursday it has strongly taken up several cases of violence against Indian nationals in Ireland in recent weeks and is extending all possible support to the victims. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal addresses a press conference, in New Delhi on Thursday. (ANI) External affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, however, noted that Irish President Michael D Higgins and deputy prime minister and foreign minister Simon Harris have both 'publicly condemned these deplorable acts of violence'. Over the past few weeks, a taxi driver, a data scientist and a sous chef from India were targets of racially motivated assaults by Irish youth that left them with serious injuries. Videos have circulated on social media of another tech worker who was beaten, stabbed and partially stripped at Tallaght, while a six-year-old Irish-Indian girl was allegedly attacked while playing outside her home in County Waterford. 'There have been several cases of violence against Indian nationals in Ireland…We have strongly taken up this matter with the Irish authorities in Dublin as well as with the embassy here,' Jaiswal told a weekly media briefing. 'We note that both the president of Ireland as also the deputy prime minister and foreign minister have publicly condemned these deplorable acts of violence,' he said. 'We hope that the issues will settle.' The Indian embassy in Dublin is in touch with the victims. 'They are also in touch with our community members and extending all possible support,' Jaiswal said. Following the increase in physical attacks on Indian nationals, the Indian embassy in Dublin issued an advisory that cautioned Indian nationals to take 'reasonable precautions for their personal safety and avoid deserted areas, especially in odd hours'. The Garda, or Ireland's state police force, is investigating some attacks on Indians as possible hate crimes. Harris said on social media last week that Ireland will 'never ever tolerate racism' while thanking the Indian community for 'their contributions to our country in so many ways'. Earlier this week, Higgins said the attacks are in 'stark contradiction to the values that we as people hold dear'. He said such acts 'diminish all of us and obscure the immeasurable benefits the people of India have brought to the life of this country'. The Ireland India Council announced on Monday that it was postponing the India Day celebration in Dublin to commemorate India's Independence Day due to safety concerns. Jaiswal responded to a separate question on an instance of the harassment of an Indian couple in Canada by saying India takes the safety and security of its nationals abroad very seriously. 'Our mission as well as our consulates are in close touch with the community members and as and when there is an issue which needs to be flagged as far as security is concerned, we take it to the local law enforcement authorities for appropriate action,' he said.
