Cowboys might poach a coach from Sean Payton's staff
A Denver Broncos assistant coach is in high demand.
We already knew Broncos assistant special teams coach Chris Banjo was a candidate for the special teams coordinator openings with the New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers. Now a third team has entered the mix.
The Dallas Cowboys are also interviewing Banjo for their ST opening, according to a report from ESPN's Todd Archer.
Landing a coordinator position this offseason would be an impressive rise for Banjo. He played as a safety and special teams ace in the NFL from 2013-2022 before hanging up his cleats and transitioning to coaching.
Broncos coach Sean Payton hired Banjo as an assistant special teams coach in 2023 and after just two years on the job, Banjo is now a candidate for a big promotion.
Denver might consider Banjo for its own coordinator opening after firing Ben Kotwica, but Darren Rizzi is believed to be the Broncos' preferred candidate to replace Kotwica.
Elsewhere on the coaching front, the Chicago Bears want to interview Denver executive David Shaw and tight ends coach Declan Doyle for their offensive coordinator position. We will track all of the team's coaching staff developments on Broncos Wire.

Allen has received little national recognition, while Bonitto became more of a household name last season. Surtain is an established star, widely considered the best cornerback in the NFL. PFF disrespecting all three is strange, but it has to be a coincidence. The site gave the Broncos an "A" grade for their offseason, so the rankings don't feel like a conscious decision to disrespect the club, but a reflection of a flawed grading system. Now entering his second year with the Denver Broncos and his first offseason as the unquestioned starting quarterback, Nix went on a sports tour this spring, visiting the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche before later throwing out a first pitch for the Colorado Rockies. Speaking at the NFL's annual league meetings in March, Broncos owner Greg Penner was asked about the team's quarterback embracing the city of Denver. 'I'd say the first and most important thing is he's totally focused on football," Penner said. "It's been great. He's been in the facility this offseason, getting in his workouts and treatment with the other players and building those relationships. At the same time, it was fun to see him at the Nuggets game and an Avalanche game in the same weekend. "I think that's great for him, just for the fans to see him out and about in the community and [he is] starting to get involved in some community efforts. I know he did some hospital visits, and he's going to be hosting a youth camp. Again, he's totally focused on football and understands there's some other things that go with it. He's a worker and going to continue to improve." Nix, 25, is now the face of the franchise. He has not yet reached Manning levels of adoration in the city, but Denver is falling in love with the young quarterback. So it makes sense that the team planned a visit with free agent, and ex Charger and Raven, JK Dobbins on Thursday. And head coach, Sean Payton, had some complementary words to say about the former AFC West rival, per Mike Klis. 'Another good football player that we've seen firsthand." Of the backs still left unsigned in the NFL, Dobbins has arguably the best case for being a true, quality starting back in the league - and could be an excellent mentor and teammate for Harvey over the next season or two.
