As Bo Nix embraces Denver, Greg Penner notes QB is 'totally focused on football'
Like Peyton Manning before him, Bo Nix has fully bought into the city of Denver.
Now entering his second year with the Denver Broncos and his first offseason as the unquestioned starting quarterback, Nix went on a sports tour this spring, visiting the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche before later throwing out a first pitch for the Colorado Rockies.
Speaking at the NFL's annual league meetings in March, Broncos owner Greg Penner was asked about the team's quarterback embracing the city of Denver.
'I'd say the first and most important thing is he's totally focused on football," Penner said. "It's been great. He's been in the facility this offseason, getting in his workouts and treatment with the other players and building those relationships. At the same time, it was fun to see him at the Nuggets game and an Avalanche game in the same weekend.
"I think that's great for him, just for the fans to see him out and about in the community and [he is] starting to get involved in some community efforts. I know he did some hospital visits, and he's going to be hosting a youth camp. Again, he's totally focused on football and understands there's some other things that go with it. He's a worker and going to continue to improve."
Nix, 25, is now the face of the franchise. He has not yet reached Manning levels of adoration in the city, but Denver is falling in love with the young quarterback. Up next for Nix is the team's quest to win the AFC West and return to the playoffs in 2025. The city will be behind them.

He believes that it's time for the longtime superstar to call it a career. "The longevity aspect, I think it's getting a little bit too much now," Polynice said. "Because I'm like, dude, what else you want to do? It's time for you (James) to start thinking about retiring. He ain't getting no fifth ring unless he buys one, It ain't happening." Granted, there is obvious proof that James has started slowing down some. However, he is still putting up impressive numbers and making a massive impact night in and night out. Looking ahead to next season, the Lakers will need to make some offseason moves to get back into NBA Finals contention. Los Angeles needs more defense and also needs a legitimate starting center. Rob Pelinka has his work cut out for him. Polynice may be right that the Lakers aren't a favorite to win a championship, but James is more than capable of continuing to play for another year or two if he chooses to do so. Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport suggested the Broncos could trade for Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier. Allgeier is entering his fourth year in the league, and after a stellar rookie season, his numbers have diminished. However, it's not because of a lack of talent on his end, it's because of the emergence of eighth-overall pick Bijan Robinson. As Davenport stated in his explanation, Robinson became a true workhorse for the Falcons last season. He garnered 365 touches, which was second in the league behind Saquon Barkley. Advertisement Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski added that the Falcons should explore trading the fourth-year running back because he has no incentive to sign an extension with Robinson as the workhorse in the backfield. Sobleski believes Allgeier has the workhorse ability, and the Falcons could get a Day Two pick for the back. In his rookie season, Allgeier had 210 carries for 1,035 yards. If you look back at college, Allgeier ran for 2,736 yards and 36 touchdowns in his final two years at BYU. That describes a workhorse pretty clearly. Advertisement This would make sense for the Broncos in the short term, but they'd likely look for Estime or Harvey to pay off in the long term. Estime had a slow rookie season, but Payton believes with adequate volume, he can make strides in 2025. As for Harvey, there's plenty of hype around the second-round draft pick. The addition of Allgeier would give the Broncos a proven workhorse, but could it slow the progression of their last two draft picks at the position? Allgeier does have the potential to be a starter in the NFL, and the Broncos, while full of potential, are one of the weaker proven backfields in the league. "Dividing Bonitto's APY [$1.45 million] by his team-leading 13.5 sacks in 2024 works out to $107,407 per sack in APY. That might seem like a decent amount, until you put it next to Trey Hendrickson's APY-per-sack mark of $1.2 million," Blair wrote. Throw in the fact that Blair believes Hendrickson is currently underpaid, which means Bonitto is making almost 10 times less than he could be. It might be hard to convince the Broncos to put an extension together with such a cheap deal. However, Bonitto's contract ends after the 2025-2026 season, which means the Broncos will have to pay up anyway if they want to keep the star defender going forward.
