The Yadav family in Bihar is celebrating the arrival of a new member, named Iraj Lalu Yadav — the grandson of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav — after his younger son, Tejashwi Yadav, and his wife welcomed their second child.
Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi announced the name of their grandson 'Iraj Lalu Yadav" in a post on X on Wednesday.
'So our grand daughter Katyayani's little brother is named 'Iraj" by me and Rabri Devi. Tejashwi & Raj Shree have given him full name as 'Iraj Lalu Yadav". Katyayani was born on Katyayani Ashtami, the 6th day of auspicious Navratri and this little bundle of joy is born on Bajrang Bali Hanuman Ji's Mangal day of Tuesday, therfore naming him Iraj," the RJD supremo wrote on X.

The former Bihar Chief Minister expressed gratitude for the well-wishes and mentioned that both the mother and the newborn are in good health.
The name Iraj holds various meanings in Sanskrit, including another name for Lord Hanuman, flower, happiness, a person born from water, or Lord Kamadeva. Some interpret it as symbolising happiness or joy.
Tejashwi Yadav's wife, Rajshree, gave birth to their son at a private hospital in Kolkata where Rajshree was admitted for the last few days.
Later, Tejashwi's sister Rohini Acharya took to social media to congratulate her brother.
'Today a new little member 'Bal Gopal Junior Tejaswi' has arrived in our family's courtyard. Hearty congratulations to dear sister-in-law Rajshri – brother Tejaswi, dear Katyayani, as well as our entire family and the entire RJD family."
'May our family always be filled with happiness and may Papa and Maa's courtyard be filled with laughter… Special congratulations to Papa and Maa," she posted on X.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met Tejashwi Yadav and his wife Rajshri, and extended warm wishes to the family.
Lalu Prasad Yadav visited the hospital to meet his newborn grandson and was seen affectionately cradling and caressing the baby. Photos capturing the emotional moment have gone viral on social media, reflecting Lalu's joy and warmth at the newest addition to the family. Tejashwi married Rajshree Yadav in 2021, and they welcomed their first child, a daughter, in March 2023.
This development comes shortly after the Yadav family gained attention due to Lalu Prasad expelling his elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, from the party for six years on Sunday.
Lalu cited Tej Pratap's 'irresponsible behaviour" and also severed all family ties with him.
A controversy arose when Tej Pratap announced on Facebook that he was 'in a relationship" with a woman named Anushka Yadav, but later claimed his account had been 'hacked".

Woman cop dies, 2 injured as SUV rams them during patrol in Patna

However, the woman constable succumbed to her injuries this incident took place on Atal Path near the Srikrishna Puri locality in Patna. While the driver managed to flee the spot, police took two passengers from the vehicle into custody. Following the incident, senior police officials rushed to the scene while the injured officers were taken to a private security personnel posted with Srikrishna Puri police station were checking vehicles on the Atal Path, when the incident happened. While they were checking a car, another speeding car hit it from the rear end, resulting in injuries to the three personnel. The driver of the speeding car managed to flee immediately after the accident," senior Patna Police official Awkash Kumar told news agency PTI. The other two injured officers are reportedly in a stable the incident has sparked a row, with Opposition leaders in the state questioning the law and order situation in the driver still at large, RJD leader Mrityunjay Tiwari said, "While the police were conducting vehicle checks in Patna, a car ran over the officers. A woman police personnel has died. What is happening in Patna? The driver is still absconding. It's like a reign of crime has taken over. Even uniformed police officers are no longer safe. This is the state of affairs in Bihar."advertisement"On the other hand, Purnia MP Pappu Yadav blamed the increasing criminalisation of politics and held the people of Bihar responsible for voting 'criminals into power.'""Society itself does not want crime to end. When the public votes for criminals during elections, then crime is bound to happen. Bihar cannot function without crime or the mafia—no caste or political party can survive without the mafia. People of every caste consider their criminals as leaders, which is why crime is not even an issue for the public in Bihar. It is the public that votes criminals into power. So not just the government, we hold the public equally responsible for the law and order situation."Inputs from Sujeet Gupta and PTI

Centre suppressing Tamil legacy by delaying report: MDMK general secretary Vaiko
CHENNAI: MDMK general secretary Vaiko and CPI state secretary R Mutharasan on Wednesday accused the union government of deliberately delaying the release of the Keezhadi excavation reports, calling it an attempt to suppress Tamil civilisation's ancient legacy. In a press statement, Vaiko questioned why the union government has not yet released the findings of the first and second phases of excavation, carried out by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), when Tamil Nadu's Department of Archaeology had already published results from the fourth to ninth phases. Vaiko's allegations come on the heels of Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat's remarks in Chennai recently that the reports (on the Keezhadi excavations) of archaeologist K Amarnath Ramakrishna 'have not been scientific' and the findings 'are not yet technically well-supported and established'. Criticising the union government's stance, Vaiko alleged that the centre is more interested in promoting a Sanskrit-centric narrative while attempting to suppress the Dravidian roots of Tamil culture. In another statement, CPI state secretary R Mutharasan also condemned Shekhawat's remarks, stating they undermine well-established scientific evidence supporting the antiquity of Tamil civilisation, as acknowledged by international scholars.

In BJP's 5-Point Bihar Plan, No Room For Complacency As RJD Looks Set To Copy Akhilesh's SP
Last Updated: The BJP sources said the NDA has much in its favour in Bihar and expects to win the state this October under Nitish Kumar's leadership No anti-incumbency, a favourable caste combination, a positive atmosphere due to Operation Sindoor, the caste census card, and sympathy for Nitish Kumar—this is the BJP's game plan for the crucial Bihar election battle later this year. However, the party is ensuring no complacency or overconfidence in what is expected to be a tough caste clash, top BJP sources told CNN-News18. They said the NDA has much in its favour in Bihar and expects to win the state this October under Nitish Kumar's leadership. But the party remains cautious and is avoiding overconfidence, aware that Bihar is a 'caste battle" and the RJD is aggressively courting caste groups beyond its Yadav-Muslim base, one of these top BJP sources said. 'There is certainly no anti-incumbency. People appreciate the development they have seen in Bihar under the NDA government," the source said. RJD learning from SP's success The top BJP source added that the BJP recognises that the Rashtriya Janata Dal is attempting to replicate Akhilesh Yadav's 2024 Lok Sabha election strategy by giving many tickets to candidates outside the Yadav-Muslim demographic in the upcoming assembly polls. The Samajwadi Party had bruised the BJP in Uttar Pradesh last year by allocating numerous tickets to non-Yadav OBCs and winning 37 Lok Sabha seats, its best-ever performance. A second BJP source said the National Democratic Alliance has a stronger caste combination than the opposition. The recent caste census announcement is also expected to benefit the NDA. 'Much is said about Nitish Kumar's health by the opposition, but he will likely receive considerable sympathy votes in these Bihar polls," this source said. Operation Sindoor impact Bihar will also be the first state to hold elections after Operation Sindoor, and the Bharatiya Janata Party has ground feedback suggesting a positive resonance in this Hindi-belt state, where anti-Pakistan sentiment is strong. The Prime Minister has already held two rallies in Bihar since April, addressing the action against Pakistan. Narendra Modi will be in Siwan, an RJD stronghold, on June 20. Congress prospects dim, Chirag burns bright The BJP is banking on the RJD again allocating a substantial number of seats to the Congress. In the last assembly elections, while the RJD had a reasonable strike rate, winning 75 of the 144 seats it contested, the Congress secured only 19 of the 70 seats it contested. The Janata Dal (United) won just 43 seats, as Chirag Paswan's party significantly dented it by contesting independently. A top BJP source noted a significant change: Chirag is now with the NDA and demonstrated a good strike rate in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, winning five seats. Chirag recently stated that he would contest the assembly polls from a general seat and is vying for a deputy CM position. 'He has a good vote base in the Patna-Hajipur region and has his own ambitions," the BJP source added. The second BJP source said seat distribution in Bihar would be smooth, despite the ambitions of regional players like the JD(U) and Chirag's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). 'Our leader so far is Nitish Kumar," the source said. He added that even the RJD knows the Congress will likely underperform in the opposition camp if given a considerable number of seats, as demonstrated in previous Hindi heartland elections.
