I Kissed A Girl singer-songwriter Jill Sobule dies in house fire
John Porter, her manager, said in a statement: 'Jill Sobule was a force of nature and human rights advocate whose music is woven into our culture.
Extremely sad to hear of the passing of my old friend @jillsobule. A true original. She and I wrote 'Manchild', the closing song on the first EELS album in the South of France one night when EELS wasn't even a thing yet. So long, old friend. You were so much fun to be around.E pic.twitter.com/VljL5wcegE

'I was having so much fun working with her. I lost a client and a friend today. I hope her music, memory, and legacy continue to live on and inspire others.'
During her more than three decades of recording, Sobule released 12 albums that addressed such complex topics as the death penalty, anorexia nervosa, reproduction and LGBTQ+ issues.
Her first album, Things Here Are Different, was released in 1990. Five years later, she received widespread attention for her hit singles, Supermodel, from the movie Clueless, and I Kissed A Girl, which, despite being banned on several southern radio stations, made it into the Billboard Top 20 in the US.
Oh, boy. Our dear friend @jillsobule has died. I'm really to numb to post much of anything. We loved her. She loved us. She was wonderful, brilliant, hilarious. We miss her, so much. pic.twitter.com/VgnBFECuWY

I Kissed A Girl has the same title as Katy Perry's 2008 worldwide hit, but they are two different songs.
She also starred in an autobiographical off-Broadway musical that initially premiered at the Wild Project in New York in 2022 and includes songs and stories about her life.
Sobule was known for taking control of her career by fundraising so she could make her next album. In 2008, after two major record companies dumped her and two indie labels went bankrupt beneath her, she raised tens of thousands of dollars from fans so she could make a new album.
'The old kind of paradigm, where you've always waited for other people to do things, you'd have your manager and your agent,' she said at the time.
'You'd wait for the big record company to give you money to do things and they tell you what to do. This is so great. I want to do everything like this.'
Sobule was scheduled to perform in Denver on Friday night. Instead, there will be an informal gathering hosted by her friend Ron Bostwick from 105.5 The Colorado Sound at the performance space where attendees can 'share a story or song', according to her publicist.

A formal memorial to celebrate her life and legacy will be held later this summer.
Craig Grossman, her booking agent, said: 'No-one made me laugh more. Her spirit and energy shall be greatly missed within the music community and beyond.'
Born in Denver, Colorado, on January 16 1959, she has described herself as a shy child who preferred observing over participating.
Sobule was known for playing dozens of shows a year and has described her live performances as vulnerable experiences. She said she often does not have a set list and wings it.
She has performed with such icons as Neil Young, Billy Bragg and Cyndi Lauper, and also inducted Neil Diamond into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame, according to her website. She also sang a song as herself on an episode of The Simpsons in 2019.
'In a good way, I feel like I'm still a rookie,' she told The Associated Press in 2023 in an interview about her musical. 'There's so much more to do and I haven't done my best yet.'
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, James and Mary Ellen Sobule, along with her nephews and cousins.

Bella Hadid is a dead ringer for sister Gigi as she steps out with newly-blonde hair and tiny waist on display
Bella Hadid was a sight to see as she stepped out with friends in Los Angeles on Tuesday. The 28-year-old supermodel — who just launched her latest scent — wore an all-white outfit, showing off her impossibly trim waist in a micro crop top. She revealed her washboard abs as she added low-slung jeans, which were teamed with a matching jacket. The look was rounded out with a pair of stylish and sleek coordinating sneakers. Bella was nearly a dead ringer for her 30-year-old big sister Gigi Hadid as she complemented the getup with her freshly colored honey-blonde locks. The star previously rose to fame walking runways and gracing magazine covers as a glossy brunette. On Tuesday the young beauty accented her effortlessly cool look with a pair of narrow, oval-shaped sunglasses. And she carried her belongings in a chic, quilted, brown Yves Saint Laurent handbag. Since achieving notoriety as one of the world's most recognizable models Bella has become an entrepreneur. Alongside Jen Batchelor, she is the co-founder of non-alcoholic functional beverages range Kin Euphorics. In May 2024 she launched Orabella, described as a 'hydrating, alcohol-free, skin perfume.' This week the entrepreneur released Eternal Roots, 'a multi-layered woody fruity fragrance' with lychee, raspberry, and pink sugar notes. According to the company's description, the fragrance 'evolves into an earthy base of vetiver, papyrus, and birch smoke for a harmonious blend of sweetness and depth.' Bella used social media to personally introduce the latest product and tell her 61 million followers about her 'process'. In a lengthy, heartfelt note, the Vogue cover girl shared, 'Our newest gem…. my newest baby- she's here! She's thriving - we love her- could cry - already have!' Giving out thanks, she added, 'Thank you to everyone for giving me the opportunity to live my dream not just in business, but in creativity. You keep us moving as a brand, and you keep me moving in my heart & soul. I'm so grateful.' The message went on to explain the scent palette as she said: 'A woody, sweet, fruity skin parfum with so many fun layers you can really sink into. I love the juxtaposition of things that shouldn't go together but somehow match perfectly. Yin and yang, perhaps.' And she noted, 'My process always starts with my incredible, talented, EPIC-ly legendary (and very patient) perfumers. 'This one is with the master Jerome Epinette. I go in from the very beginning and ask him about every 'juice' he'd be nervous but excited to try, something we haven't seen on the market.' Bella wrapped up the post by sharing, 'This one is nostalgia bottled as always a time capsule of joy, freedom, and innocence. I couldn't have brought it to life without my dream team and all of you who believe in my vision. You make it possible for me to create magic.'

The Saturdays bandmates Rochelle Humes and Frankie Bridge give a major clue that they have ended their 'feud'
A huge clue has suggested that Rochelle Fumes and Frankie Bridge have ended their supposed 'feud '. The former bandmates became friends in childhood, both finding fame in S Club Juniors before joining Una Healy, Mollie King and Vanessa White in The Saturdays. Yet in recent months, their relationship is said to have soured, with the pair reportedly snubbing each other when they attended Wimbledon last month. But in a sign that their friendship is back on, the pair have been showing each other support on social media. The duo rarely like each others' content on Instagram however Frankie has shown support for Rochelle on a recent brand collaboration with Apple Arcade. And Rochelle has returned the favour by hearting Frankie's holiday posts while away with her family. Frankie posted a cryptic TikTok this week about no longer 'being a people pleaser' amid her reported 'secret feud' with Myleene Klass. Myleene is said to be at loggerheads with Frankie and her The Saturdays bandmate Rochelle - both former clients of her bodyguard ex-husband. According to new claims, ITV have been forced to step in to help smooth things in the decade-long feud, which is just now coming to light, as they both often appear on Loose Women. And this week while enjoying a sunny holiday Frankie took to TikTok as she mimed along to Sabrina Carpenter's hit track Manchild. Over the video, the caption read: 'Taking 36 years to realise being a people pleaser doesn't please anyone. 'Fad diets are a waste of time. Turns out it's all about balance?! Who knew?! 'Only you can make yourself happy. You can do the hard thing! You've got this,' followed by a red love heart emoji. She penned in the caption: 'Taking 36 years to learn and still doing them anyway…'. It comes after last week the moment Myleene and Frankie were caught in an awkward exchange on a Loose Women episode last year came back to light as a new report claimed the pair are embroiled in a 'secret feud'. Myleene, Frankie and Rochelle all used to hang out together, with the former two attending Rochelle's hen do in 2012. Yet the following year, Myleene is said to have believed she was being 'blanked' by Frankie and confronted her at the 2013 Glamour Women of the Year awards - which is when the pair requested not to work together. However, due to a staff shortage around Christmas last year, Myleene and Frankie ended up on the same Loose Women panel - resulting in an 'awkward' episode with 'minimal interaction'. They were joined by panelists Kaye Adams and Linda Robson, who sat between them, the camera flashed to Myleene as Frankie discussed her dislike for the drawn out days between Christmas and New Year. Myleene flashed a vacant smile, as Frankie explained that she 'feels a bit lost' during the period between the two festive holidays. Meanwhile Myleene's feud with Rochelle is said to have been sparked after The Saturdays star recently shared a picture of herself on holiday in Ibiza with husband Marvin and Myleene's ex-husband Graham Quinn. Graham used to work as JLS' tour manager and last week Myleene accused him of cheating on her with an unknown star. According to insiders close to the situation, Rochelle sharing the photo on Instagram the same week she made the revelation was 'game over' for Myleene. It's the latest twist as it's been reported that there has been an underlying conflict between Myleene, Rochelle and Frankie, who all work at ITV. This week, Frankie sparked frenzied speculation by posting a cryptic video, saying somebody was 'dead to me', with fans wondering if she was talking about Rochelle. It was claimed they snubbed each other when attending Wimbledon last month. A source told The Sun: 'They don't seem to be getting on and that's making things more complicated for bookers who are keen to keep everyone happy. 'They've been competing since they were 12 when they joined S Club Juniors and now it appears they're competing for top jobs on ITV. While Rochelle rose in the ranks to present This Morning, her appearances have become few and far between since other famous faces have been brought in. 'Meanwhile Frankie has been a regular panellist on Loose Women since 2020 and has the ear of ITV producers who she's become close friends with. Now ITV bosses do everything they can to avoid awkward run-ins. If Rochelle is on This Morning and has to pass over to Frankie on Loose Women, it's kept as brief as possible.' The former bandmates became friends in childhood, both finding fame in S Club Juniors before joining Rochelle Humes, Una Healy, Mollie King and Vanessa White in The Saturdays. Yet in recent months, their relationship is said to have soured, with the pair reportedly snubbing each other when they attended Wimbledon last month. The pair were both pictured enjoying the hospitality at the tennis tournament but it is said they kept their interactions to a minimum. An onlooker claimed: 'It was clear the women were keeping their distance. They sat on opposite sides of the suite and kept to themselves.' They added to The Sun: 'While Frankie posed for pictures with S Club's Rachel Stevens, Rochelle took selfies with her husband Marvin and his I'm A Celebrity campmate Sam Thompson. 'Even though they were pleasant to each other when they did brush shoulders, they didn't spend any extra time together than they had to, in between being amicable while passing each other en route to watch the tennis.' Frankie's representatives have told Daily Mail that there is 'absolutely no feud' between the pair, while those close to Rochelle insist there is 'no feud'. Myleene's representative declined to comment on the situation. Yet that didn't stop Frankie posting a cryptic social media post on Monday that was captioned: 'You're so quiet… Thanks, you said something five years ago and I've just realised you're actually dead to me.' The TikTok video showed Frankie sipping on a glass of wine and was set to the music of Avril Lavigne's What The Hell. Frankie then added below: 'Takes me a while, but once you're dead you're dead.' She didn't specify who or what incident she was talking about in the post. While Frankie and Rochelle found fame as singers they have since both turned their hand to the world of TV - with Frankie a regular panelist on Loose Women, while Rochelle is a stand-in presenter for This Morning. As for Myleene, she hit headlines last week when she publicly addressed ex-husband Graham's cheating scandal. Graham, 47, started dating Myleene in 2001, having met when he worked as security guard for her pop group Hear'Say. The couple went on to welcome daughters Ava, 17, and Hero, 14, and tied the knot in 2011 after a decade together - only to separate six months later. Speaking on Paul Brunson's We Need To Talk podcast, the mother-of-two said: 'I walked in on him with a famous person on my birthday on a balcony.' Turning her thoughts towards the other woman, Myleene said: 'I've made peace with that situation now, but for a long time, it was very difficult to see their life. 'My life literally just broke apart very, very publicly and their life, they've managed to continue building a family brand on it. I have to take some accountability. 'Look, you know, first and foremost to my children. My children have asked enough questions and it's never been a case of laying out my stall now. 'It's got to be as and when. But here's the funny thing - school mums, people who just want to gossip, will go to your children before anybody else.' Speculation of a feud then went into overdrive when Frankie shared a TikTok video about holding a grudge - with fans speculating that she was referring to Rochelle because it followed reports that they had snubbed one another at Wimbledon last month According to the TV presenter, the pair tried to claim that it wasn't what it looked like and she continued: 'I'm in my house, it's my party. They weren't having sex, but they were unzipping each other. 'It's not what you think'. But I'm like, 'It is what I think'. 'It's the first thing they both said. I kicked everyone out of the party, including his mum and dad. They went back to Ireland and his dad said: 'He doesn't get it from me'. 'I remember thinking that was quite a weird thing to say,' she told the love expert. Graham tried to blame the affair on being drunk. Myleene admitted the whole ordeal was a 'pretty big red flag' but still went through with their wedding in October 2011.

Naomi Campbell, 55, shows off her incredible figure in a lace trimmed bikini as she joins Mohammed Al Turki onboard a yacht in Spain after clarifying their relationship
She's been soaking up the sun all summer in Spain. And Naomi Campbell showed off her incredible figure as she showered off after taking a dip in the sea on Monday with Mohammed Al Turki. The supermodel, 55, wore a lingerie-inspired, black and white polka dot bikini that featured a lace trim. She looked as chic as ever with her hair styled straight, accessorising her look with long silver necklaces. Naomi went for a swim before drying off in the sun as she enjoyed a day out on her yacht with Mohammed Al Turki and their close friends. Over the years, fans have frequently called for the model and Mohammed the pair to get together, commenting on their many Instagram posts of each other, and predicting they would be 'the next IT couple'. However, Naomi recently clarified their relationship when she shared a gushing birthday tribute to the Saudi Arabian producer as he turned 40. Alongside two snaps of the pair, including a photo of a bikini-clad Naomi embracing Mohammed, the beauty referred to her pal as her 'chosen family', before noting how much she cherishes their 'friendship and family-ship'. She wrote: 'Happy birthday 40th birthday and turn around the sun to my chosen family @moalturki My Mo. 'I'm so proud of all that you've done, all that you're doing, and all that's ahead for you. I'm beyond excited for your next chapter and everything your future holds. Most of all, I'm deeply grateful to have you in my life. 'I wish you joy, health, love, and every blessing this year and beyond. I know this next season is going to be filled with incredible things, and I can't wait for the world to see it all unfold. 'We love you so much, Uncle Mo. I truly cherish our friendship—and our family-ship.' The pair have been friends for several years, after the Saudi Arabian film producer first shared a snap with the superstar on his Instagram back in 2021. Elsewhere, Naomi recently collaborated with Miley Cyrus for the singer's new single Every Girl You've Ever Loved. Enjoyed a day out on her yacht Naomi went for a swim before drying off in the sun The new video dropped last month, little more than a week after the pair were accused of being rude to fans during a meet and greet in London. Every Girl You've Ever Loved is the latest single from Miley's newly released album Something Beautiful - and its accompanying promotional materials. A raunchy new video for the song, in which Naomi features on vocals, opens with Miley singing and dancing her way through a dark warehouse in a black minidress. After the first verse, the model purrs: 'She has the perfect scent, pose, she speaks the perfect French.' Dressed in a full-length black trench coat, she adds: 'She never wears a watch, but still she's never late, she's got that kind of grace, did Botticelli paint your face? 'She has the perfect scent, she speaks the perfect French, she can dance the night away and yet she'll never break a sweat,' before repeating 'Pose' several times. Both Naomi and Miley strip to racy black lingerie as they pose together several times before walking off together as the video comes to an end. Naomi left a comment on the video, writing: 'So proud to be part of this powerful moment with you, Miley.' She added, 'Your vision, your voice, your heart—it all shines through. Thank you for including me in this project. Who else is obsessed with this video?' The release comes after the duo made an appearance at iconic London venue Rough Trade, where they signed vinyl copies of her latest single Every Girl You've Ever Loved. However, they were criticised for spending more time talking to each other than the fans they were supposed to be meeting. Among the several fans who complained was YouTuber Juanito Say, who wrote alongside a clip from the event, 'You pay for a meet & greet to meet Miley Cyrus... And she totally ignores you because she's busy chatting with Naomi.' Another said he 'canceled' his order, adding, 'they just talking to themselves' and 'barely acknowledging fans.'
