Kanpur: Tension prevailed in the Raipurwa area after an idol of Lord Hanuman was vandalised by some miscreant on Monday night.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central, Shrawan Kumar Singh, said that on bing informed that the idol at Shri Hanuman temple near a Peepal tree was found damaged, the police arrived at the scene.

"With the help of local residents, the process of installing a new idol is underway," said the DCP adding that, "The suspect is being identified with the help of CCTV footage. The law and order situation is under control and actions are being taken for the suspect's swift arrest."
Locals said that for years, a statue of Lord Hanuman is being worshipped under the Peepal tree in front of Gunjan Talkies. A large number of devotees assemble here on the occasion of Bada Mangal and Hanuman Jayanti for religious rituals.
An attempt was made to damage the idol of Peepaleshwar Hanuman Temple, they said demaning immediate arrest and necessary action against those responsible.
It is suspected that the incident occurred after one o'clock at night. The sleuths from Kotwali station are investigating the matter.
