DGP J&K reviews security arrangements for Amarnath Yatra
Srinagar, May 24 (UNI) Ahead of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, Director General of Police, J&K, Nalin Prabhat chaired a high-level security review meeting in Srinagar, and issued strict directions for the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and called for intensified efforts to dismantle the terror ecosystem.
Prabhat chaired a joint meeting with officers from the Police, CRPF, ITBP, Traffic Police, Railways, and various security and intelligence agencies at Police Control Room Kashmir to review the overall security arrangements for the upcoming Yatra.
A police spokesman said at the onset of the meeting, the zonal police chiefs briefed the chair on the proposed security arrangements for the conduct of the Yatra. The officers of CAPF and other SFs also briefed the chair, gave their feedback and emphasised the significance of effective coordination among the various forces.
During the meeting, DGP J&K issued directions for implementing the SOPs and also emphasised the importance of proactive measures in mitigating risks and ensuring the safety and security of the yatris. He also directed the field officers to intensify their efforts to dismantle the terror ecosystem.
DGP instructed the officers to bolster security measures and mitigate potential risks by deploying Anti-Sabotage teams along the yatra routes. He also directed the officers to enhance surveillance and threat detection capabilities by utilising advanced technologies and real-time monitoring of both pilgrimage routes.
The meeting concluded with a resolve to ensure the highest level of preparedness and coordination for the smooth and successful conduct of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2025.

President Murmu confers armed forces with distinguished service medal
New Delhi, June 4 (UNI) President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday conferred 92 distinguished service decorations to serving and retired personnel of the Armed Forces, Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Border Roads Organisation (BRO) during the Defence Investiture Ceremony 2025 (Phase-II) at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Among those conferred with Ati Vishisht Seva Medal included Lt Gen Pushpendra Pal, Lt Gen Sandeep Jain, Lt Gen Sadhna S Nair, Lt Gen Bhavnish Kumar, Vice Admiral Chempakvilas Rammohan Praveen Nair, Air Marshal Venkataramanan Rajasekhar, Air Marshal Sanjiv Ghuratia and Director General Paramesh Sivamani. Modi, BCCI express grief over RCB stampede; 11 feared dead
New Delhi/Bengaluru, June 4 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed deep sorrow over the stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebrations. "The mishap in Bengaluru is absolutely heartrending. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that those who are injured have a speedy recovery," the Prime Minister said in a post on X. The stampede occurred when thousands of fans gathered outside the stadium in the city's central business district to catch a glimpse of their favourite players and the IPL trophy. A sudden surge in the crowd led to chaos and suffocation, resulting in multiple casualties. At least 11 people are feared dead and over 50 others injured. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia said, "Organisers should have planned RCB's IPL-winning celebrations better.' He acknowledged the scale of the celebrations but pointed out a lack of adequate crowd control measures." Senior Congress leader and MLC BK Hariprasad also expressed anguish over the incident. "The incident in which more than 11 people, including women, died in a stampede during the RCB cricket team's victory parade in Bengaluru is extremely shocking and regrettable. The condition of some of the injured is serious, and the government should take immediate action to provide them with appropriate treatment," he said. However, the state government is yet to confirm the number of deaths in the stampede. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar appealed for calm and said the exact number of casualties was still being ascertained. The BJP seized on the incident to mount a scathing attack on the Congress government. Karnataka BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa held the administration directly responsible, alleging that it rushed into organising the rally without proper planning and prioritised publicity over safety. "The state government must take full responsibility," Vijayendra said. "More than 11 people have died, and several others are in critical condition, some in the ICU. This tragedy is a direct result of the government's negligence." Vijayendra said he had spoken to one of the victims, who claimed there was no police presence or ambulance facility at the venue. "The injured had to rush themselves to Bowring Hospital," he said. Calling it a "serious lapse," Vijayendra demanded that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah take moral responsibility and refer the matter for a judicial inquiry. 'Let the CM decide who must be held accountable—but it must go before a judicial forum,' he asserted. RCB stampede: Siddaramaiah confirms 11 deaths, announces Rs 10L aid
Bengaluru, June 4 (UNI) At least 11 people lost their lives and 33 were injured in a tragic stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Wednesday, as an overwhelming crowd gathered for Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebrations. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed deep grief over the incident and announced ₹10 lakh compensation for the families of each of the deceased, all of whom were young men and women. "No one anticipated this. Neither the Cricket Association nor the government expected such a huge crowd. The stadium can accommodate only 35,000 people, but over two to three lakh fans turned up," Siddaramaiah told reporters, explaining that the rally had to be organised early this morning following last evening's IPL final. Thousands of jubilant fans had gathered near the gates of the stadium since early morning, hoping to catch a glimpse of their favourite players and the trophy. The situation spiralled out of control when the surging crowd overwhelmed entry points, triggering a deadly stampede. "Thirty-three people have been injured, with 47 reported to have sustained varying levels of trauma initially. Some were discharged after treatment," the Chief Minister stated, adding that all injured individuals would receive free medical care. Siddaramaiah assured that those undergoing treatment in both government and private hospitals will have their medical expenses fully borne by the state. "I have spoken with doctors to ensure proper treatment for all the injured," he said. The tragedy has cast a shadow over what was meant to be a jubilant public celebration of RCB's maiden IPL title.
