The Hindua day ago
Odisha Police on Wednesday (August 13, 2025) arrested four more persons for their involvement in the gang rape of a schoolgirl in Kendrapara district.
With this, the total number of arrests in the case has risen to five.
Police on Tuesday (August 12, 2025) arrested a relative of the survivor, who allegedly lured her to a secluded location, where she was assaulted by the five men.
All five have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
While the prime accused has already been sent to jail after a local court rejected the bail application, the four others will be produced in court later in the day, police said.
Police said the accused also recorded the assault on video.
According to the FIR, the survivor alleged that her relative visited their residence on Raksha Bandhan (August 9, 2025) and offered to take her to a temple in a nearby village.
Instead, she was taken to a deserted spot, where four others were waiting, and was raped.
"It seemed that the crime was pre-planned and the relative of the girl was the main accused," a police officer said.
The accused allegedly threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to her family.
The survivor's statement was recorded on Wednesday (August 13, 2025) in the presence of a magistrate, an officer added.

The two victims were accompanied by another girl of around 12 years of age, who returned home. "They bought them perfumes at the store. The third girl, around 12 years of age, who had come along, went back home," news agency PTI quotes a senior police officer as saying. According to the news agency's report, the accused had no past criminal record and lived with their family in a slum in Bawana. According to a complaint lodged by the mother of one of the victims, her daughter had been playing at her aunt's house in Bawana when she and two other girls went to the pool. The woman alleged that the two nine-year-old girls did not return home that day and returned around 5 AM the following morning. However, the two minors did not immediately share the ordeal with their parents. The accused allegedly had threatened to kill them if they revealed the crime to their families. It was only two days after the incident that the girls said they had been locked in a room and raped by Anil, who is a contractor employed by the pool's owner and Munil, who works as the pool's caretaker, the cops stated. Two accused had also asked the nine-year-old for money, but the girls had none.
