
Month-long events lined up to celebrate ‘Yogandhra'
Mr. Prasad said: 'To make this year's International Yoga Day celebrations in Visakhapatnam a historic and record-breaking event, extensive preparations are underway. The main event, scheduled for June 21, will be graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with the Governor, Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Ministers, and other dignitaries. The celebrations will span from R.K. Beach to Bheemunipatnam, Bhogapuram, up to Srikakulam. Nearly two crore people from the state, including five lakh people from North Andhra, will be engaged.'
To ensure widespread participation and preparedness, the district administration has lined up a series of training programmes beginning May 21 to 27, District-level Training of Trainers (ToTs), and mandal-level master trainers' training will be held. Additionally, there will be village and ward-level training sessions and awareness campaigns. From June 16 to 21, demonstrations will be organised at several identified locations. Mr Prasad said: 'Competitions will be held, and certificates will be given through the National Institute of Yoga. We have also organised special yoga sessions, including aqua yoga and yoga for the visually impaired. There are prizes for the winners.'
The event will see collaboration across key departments including General Administration, Education, Secretariat, Tourism, IT, Sports. A dedicated website and mobile app will soon be launched for registrations.
The curtain-raiser event Among the participants include Mayor Peela Srinivasa Rao, Government Whips Vepada Chiranjeevi Rao, PGVR Naidu (Ganababu), Commissioner of Police, Shankabratha Bagchi.

Visakhapatnam: All pandal organisers for Vinayaka Chaturthi and Durga Puja festivals must strictly adhere to the central pollution control board (CPCB) revised guidelines for idol immersion, said Visakhapatnam collector Harendhira Prasad. He added that idols and decorative materials must be made from biodegradable and non-toxic substances, such as natural clay, as prescribed in the guidelines. 579 RTC buses ready for ‘Stree Shakti' in Vizag
Preparations are complete for the launch of the State government's 'Stree Shakti' scheme, which offers free bus travel for women. The scheme is scheduled to be officially launched on August 15. The launch event will be held at the Maddilapalem RTC Depot at 5 p.m., where Revenue Minister Anangani Satyaprasad will formally inaugurate the programme. He will be joined by District Collector Harendhira Prasad, other government officials, and elected public representatives. Simultaneously, launch events of the scheme will take place at RTC depots across various constituencies, with local representatives and APSRTC officials presiding. In anticipation of increased footfall, APSRTC officials have readied the bus fleets ensuring they are road-ready and in good condition. Workers were seen cleaning the buses at various depots on Thursday. The government has designated five categories of buses as eligible for the scheme - Palle Velugu, Ultra Palle Velugu, City Ordinary, Metro Express, and Express Services. Regional Manager APSRTC, Visakhapatnam, B. Appalanaidu, said that 579 buses will operate under the 'Stree Shakti' scheme in the district. He emphasised that the free travel benefit will commence only after the official launch in the evening. To avail free travel, women passengers must present a government-recognised ID card, such as Aadhaar or PAN card.

Har Ghar Tiranga rally strengthens patriotism among people
Visakhapatnam: District collector MN Harendhira Prasad exhorted people to consider serving the society as part of serving the nation. Flagging off a bike rally as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga programme held on Tuesday at Beach Road in Visakhapatnam, the Collector mentioned that the bike rally was organised to inculcate patriotism among the youth. 'The onus of contributing to the motherland lies on each individual,' he stressed. The collector stated that by keeping the city clean, paying taxes and respecting fellow citizens are some of the qualities of a good citizen. 'The country's symbols should be respected. It is truly a matter of pride that a Telugu freedom fighter designed the national flag. People should draw inspiration from freedom fighters like Pingali Venkayya. Every citizen should work towards national integrity and programmes like Har Ghar Tiranga bring people together on a platform to strengthen patriotism,' the Collector mentioned. The bike rally was organised from Kali Mata temple to YMCA. Raising slogans such as ' Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and holding national flags, officials from various departments of the district administration, representatives of NGOs, social workers, sportsmen and students participated in the rally with enthusiasm. As part of the Har Ghar Tiranga yatra, students performed cultural programmes, while the students of tribal welfare homes performed Dhimsa dance, students from Gajuwaka presented Bharatanatyam. During the programme, the collector visited the Har Ghar Vastru Pradhar Mela organised under the auspices of UCD, ICDS and self-help groups. District tourism officer J Madhavi, social welfare DD K Rama Rao, Battalion Commandant Bhagat Singh, other officers and staff of 198 and 234 battalions, members of the tourism association participated in the rally. Meanwhile, an anti-ragging rally was flagged off by City Commissioner of Police Shankhabrata Bagchi. Organised with the support of 500 NCC cadets, the programme aimed at conveying a strong message to students to keep the campuses ragging-free. The rally commenced from AVN College to collector office, AVN College Principal Simhadri Naidu, Deputy Commissioner of Police zone-II Mary Prasanthi, ACP Harbour Kalidas and Inspector GD Babu were present.
