An 18-year-old Florida teen has been arrested after she locked her daughter inside a sweltering car to watch a Smurfs movie with her siblings. The incident came to light after the Regal Cinema 90, located on US Highway 90, alerted authorities around 5:49 pm about a distressed child locked inside a vehicle.
The officers, upon arrival, found the child, who looked flushed, was crying, and drenched in sweat, according to the Lake Police Department press release. The officers reported that the outside temperature was 34.4 degrees Celsius with a heat index of 41.7 degrees Celsius.
The child was immediately rushed to the Lake City Medical Center for treatment.
The accused, Tripura Merriex, told the officer that she had taken her daughter to the movie theatre, but the child started crying, disturbing others.
The arrest report states, "Mrs. Merriex said that she brought [her daughter] out to the lobby to keep from disrupting other movie viewers' experience."
According to Law and Crime, the Regal Cinema employee told the authorities that Merriex seemed very annoyed with her daughter's constant crying. They added that, at first, she left the Smurfs movie from time to time to go outside and check on her baby herself, but later, she reportedly asked her siblings to do the same.
The cops told the outlet, "After a few trips of Mrs Merriex going out to her vehicle, the other two individuals that she had come into the cinema with started alternating out on every other trip."
According to Merriex's arrest record, her husband later stated in interviews that she had a habit of making irrational decisions about how to handle their daughter's crying. He accused her of having "negative reactions to stress related to being a parent" and of lacking "patience" when it comes to caring for the child.
Chief of Police Gerald Butler, in a press release, said, "Our officers acted swiftly to ensure the safety of this young child."
He further said, "Leaving a child unattended in a vehicle under these conditions is unacceptable. We are thankful the child is safe and urge all parents to prioritise the well-being of their children at all times, he added."
Merriex is presently being held on a $50,000 bond at the Columbia County Jail.

In Shocking Case, Man Leaves 4 Kids In Car Without AC To Visit Sex Toy Store

Last Updated: The man has been charged with four counts of child abuse. In a bizarre incident that has come to light, a 38-year-old man from Arizona, US, allegedly left his children in a car to visit an adult store. He spent nearly an hour inside the adult store while forgetting about his children, aged between two and seven, who were inside the car with the engine shut, no air conditioning, and the windows rolled up. The man, now identified as Ascencio Largo, has been arrested. According to a report by The New York Post, the incident occurred at approximately 3:40 PM on July 24, when the temperature at the location was around 106 degrees Fahrenheit, or 41 degrees Celsius. The police learnt about the situation after receiving multiple calls. The officers arrived at the parking lot of The Adult Shoppe and found the children inside the car, exposed to the sweltering heat. 'Officers responded to a parking lot of a business near 24th Street and Madison Street regarding multiple children inside a vehicle that was not running. When officers arrived, they located multiple children in the car. Officers were able to gain entry into the car and secure the children," said the Phoenix Police. His Children Showed Signs Of Heat Distress They rescued the four kids, who were two, three, four, and seven years old, respectively. The temperature inside the car had risen dangerously to 125 degrees Fahrenheit, which is approximately 51.6 degrees Celsius. Sgt. Rob Scherer told the outlet, 'There were signs of distress, you know, colour discolouration, you know, skin bright red, sweating. Clearly, the heat was affecting the children." The children were taken into an air-conditioned police SUV and given water afterwards. After rescuing them, when the police started looking for their guardian, they found their father inside the sex store. Ascencio Largo was inside the store for an hour. Officers also noticed that he smelled of alcohol. They also noted that his driver's license revealed that he should have had an ignition interlock in place, but his car did not have one. The Man Has Been Booked Under Child Abuse Maricopa County Commissioner Jane McLaughlin said during a court hearing that he initially refused to acknowledge that it was his car. 'It just indicates a strong level of reckless culpability of knowing. It's difficult to say that anybody who grew up in Arizona doesn't know that children and dogs die in closed cars," Jane McLaughlin said. Ascencio Largo has now been charged with four counts of child abuse and four counts of endangerment. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. US Man, 38, Leaves 4 Children Inside Hot Car To Visit Sex Shop, Arrested

A 38-year-old man in the US was arrested after allegedly leaving his four children in a hot car without air conditioning while he spent nearly an hour inside a sex shop. According to The New York Post, the incident occurred on Thursday evening when the temperature reached 106 degrees (approximately 41 degrees Celsius). The man, identified as Ascencio Largo, was booked on child abuse charges after cops responded to multiple calls of children, aged two to seven, left unattended in the vehicle. The car was off, and the windows were rolled up, police said. "Officers responded to a parking lot of a business near 24th Street and Madison Street regarding multiple children inside of a vehicle that was not running. When officers arrived, they located multiple children in the car. Officers were able to gain entry into the car and secure the children," Phoenix Police said, per the outlet. Temperatures inside the car were about 125 degrees (51.6 degrees Celsius) when the kids were found, the cops added. The children, ages 2, 3, 4 and 7, were all showing signs of heat distress, including skin discolouration and profuse sweating. After the rescue, they were taken to an air-conditioned police SUV and given water. "There were signs of distress, you know, colour discolouration, you know, skin bright red, sweating. Clearly, the heat was affecting the children," Phoenix Police Sgt. Rob Scherer said. Officers searched for the children's guardian and found their father, 38-year-old Ascencio Largo, inside an adult store. He allegedly went inside the shop about an hour before the children were found. Initially, the man pretended it wasn't his car, cops said. "It just indicates a strong level of reckless culpability of knowing. It's difficult to say that anybody who grew up in Arizona doesn't know that children and dogs die in closed cars," Maricopa County Commissioner Jane McLaughlin said. According to the Post, police also noticed alcohol on Largo's breath and said his driver's license had an ignition interlock requirement in place, but the vehicle did not have one installed. The 38-year-old was arrested and charged with four counts of child abuse and four counts of endangerment.
