Pat Freiermuth: We have all the belief in Mason Rudolph
Anyone hoping that Aaron Rodgers might break his silence and make an announcement about his 2025 plans on Wednesday night was disappointed, so the wait to find out if he'll be the Steelers quarterback will roll on.
Tight end Pat Freiermuth is one of many people whose future will be impacted by that choice and he said on the Kaboly and Mack podcast that he's exchanged some DMs with Rodgers as the process has played out this offseason. Those exchanges didn't leave him with a better idea about Rodgers's plans, but he said he has trust in head coach Mike Tomlin and General Manager Omar Khan to put the team in a good position heading into the season.

Freiermuth said that his trust extends to quarterback Mason Rudolph, who returned as a free agent after spending 2024 with the Titans, as well.
"As guys on the team, we have all the belief in Mason," Freiermuth said. "You know he made some big plays when he was here last, winning three straight games to make the playoffs. Whatever happens, happens, but we will see."
While doubts exist about how Rodgers would fit in Pittsburgh, it's hard to imagine that going into the season with Rudolph as the No. 1 quarterback would have the city brimming with confidence about how the 2025 campaign will turn out for the Steelers.

Former NFLer Taylor Lewan's first pitch at Cardinals game was an utter disaster: ‘Worst day'
Taylor Lewan is giving 50 Cent a run for his money. The former Titans offensive tackle threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Cardinals' game Thursday against the Royals and it did not go well — instantly triggering memories of Fiddys infamous first pitch at a Mets game more than 10 years ago. The 6-foot-7 lefty began his windup that looked very prim and proper. Advertisement 5 Well, this one wasn't a strike. @woodwardsports/X 5 Taylor Lewan's pitch flies just a bit outside. Bussin' With The Boys/X Advertisement But when Lewan released the ball, fans had to duck out of the way as the pitch was just a bit outside — that's if multiple feet wide of even the outermost part of the left-handed batter's box is considered 'just a bit outside.' Lewan instantly threw his hat to the ground in disgust with himself, sulked off the mound and forced himself to do push-ups as a punishment for the brutal pitch. He then ran to social media to warn everybody of the avalanche of trolling that was forthcoming. 5 Taylor Lewan winds up for his first pitch. Bussin' With The Boys/X 'Currently at the Cardinals game, and there's something I need to get ahead of,' he wrote on X. 'A video will be surfacing of me throwing a pitch from the mound. Let's just say… the haters are going to have an absolute field day.' 5 Taylor Lewan was a staple on the Titans' offensive line for nearly 10 seasons. Getty Images Advertisement He wasn't wrong, as the trolls wasted no time. Lewan played nine seasons in the NFL, all for the Titans. The three-time Pro Bowler had his ups and downs — but none of those downs quite compared to his first pitch. 'This is the worst day of my athletic career and that includes the Chandler Jones game,' Lewan posted to X. And that's saying something. Chandler Jones once sacked Lewan's quarterback Ryan Tannehill an absurd five times in one game. Advertisement Perhaps it's just that he gets some points for the solid windup, but Lewan's pitch (somehow) still didn't look quite as bad as 50 Cent's — but you'd expect a tad better from a former professional athlete. 'I need redemption,' Lewan said.

Kenneth Murray calls Matt Eberflus' defense "a great fit" for him
Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown said he's where he needs to be in his rehab. But Overshown, who tore the ACL, MCL and PCL in his right knee in Week 14, will miss most, if not all, of the 2025 season. The Cowboys covered themselves by trading for Titans linebacker Kenneth Murray, a first-round pick of the Chargers in 2020. Murray is working at Overshown's weakside linebacker spot in new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus' scheme. 'I think it's a great fit,' Murray said, via Clarence Hill of All City DLLS. 'I've been enjoying myself, obviously transitioning over from being traded and getting up to speed and stuff like that. Lot of things work to my strengths, coming down hill, playing the coverage, stuff like that. It's been good. It's been great being here during the offseason program, getting around the guys and just trying to come in and establish a culture and get better every day.' The Cowboys have Murray making the defensive calls over middle linebacker Jack Sanborn, who followed Eberflus from Chicago. 'I'm extremely comfortable with it,' Murray said of being the green dot. 'I've done it the majority of my career, getting us in and out of checks, being able to decipher different things, different formation, stuff like that.' Murray vows to help the Cowboys shore up their run defense. They have not ranked in the top-10 in run defense since 2018 under defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli. In the past five seasons, the Cowboys have not ranked higher than 16th in run defense, including 29th last season. 'I think it's just taking a different approach,' Murray said. 'Obviously, it's a new style coming in, and then, you know, got some new players. That's something that I'll take extremely personally. That that's mentality I'm gonna bring to it. It's personal, man. When they just running it down your throat, it's unacceptable.' Murray had 95 tackles and a career-high 3.5 sacks with Tennessee last season when he started 14 games.

Ex-Cowboys Star Defends Pickens After Aaron Rodgers Signing
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Pittsburgh Steelers will see if Aaron Rodgers has any gas left in the tank. On Thursday, it was revealed that Rodgers has agreed to terms on a one-year deal to stay in the AFC. The move comes after months of waiting to see where Rodgers could end up next. Former Dallas Cowboys star Dez Bryant found the Steelers' Rodgers acquisition interesting, considering the narrative being built around Dallas' recently acquired wide receiver, George Pickens. It started with media personality "J Tuck" on social media. "Imagine moving on from George Pickens thinking he was a locker room distraction only to end up with Aaron Rodgers as your QB," Tuck wrote on X. Bryant then quoted the original post with his own commentary. "You said it," the former star wideout said, with a crying laughing emoji. You said it 😂 — Dez Bryant (@DezBryant) June 5, 2025 Pickens, a former second-round pick for the Steelers, starred during his three-year run in Pittsburgh. With 48 appearances, he caught 174 passes for 2,841 yards and 12 touchdowns. At a point, it was becoming clear that Pickens' road in Pittsburgh was getting bumpy. Eventually, the Steelers and the Cowboys got on the phone, talked shop, and made a deal. The Steelers sent the star wide receiver alongside a 2027 sixth-round pick to the Cowboys in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round selection. Outside of Cowboys Nation, there was a lot of discussion about Pickens being a problem. At first, the young wideout suggested that the Steelers had made a deal without him pushing for it. However, Pickens recently stated that he requested a change. Clearly, it was granted. Either way, the public didn't rush to change their opinion on Pickens, but many see the Rodgers acquisition as ironic. Since his MVP-winning days with the Green Bay Packers, Rodgers has struggled to maintain a healthy relationship with his teams. He didn't leave the Packers' organization on a high note, and his run with the New York Jets soured rather quickly. In 2023, Rodgers was welcomed to New York with open arms. The Jets believed the 2021 NFL MVP would lead them to great heights, before watching him go down with a season-ending injury after throwing just one pass in 2023. Rodgers returned for a 17-game showing in 2024, but it didn't go the way New York had hoped. Rodgers threw for nearly 4,000 yards and had a 28-11 TD-INT ratio, but the Jets won just five games. A lot of frustration boiled over, and the Jets eventually released the quarterback in March. Will drama be brought to Pittsburgh with Rodgers in the building? Only time will tell. The same can be said about Bryant's Cowboys as well, as Pickens embraces a fresh start in Dallas.
