Egypt FM holds talks with UK, Iran, and IAEA on Tehran nuclear programme - Foreign Affairs
Abdelatty explored ways to resume negotiations between Iran, the IAEA, and the E3 group, which comprises the UK, France, and Germany.
These negotiations would help restore diplomatic momentum and address concerns related to Iran's nuclear programme, especially with the anticipated activation of the UN sanctions mechanism on Iran by the end of August, as recently announced by the E3 group.
During the calls, Abdelatty emphasised the need to sustain the Iran-Israel ceasefire, ensure that hostilities do not resume, and support a political and peaceful path forward.
According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Abdelatty's intensive communications also addressed the ongoing de-escalation efforts to reduce regional tensions.
During his call with his British counterpart, the Egyptian Foreign Minister addressed ways to develop and strengthen bilateral ties, particularly in trade, investment, and tourism.
On the other hand, Abdelatty and the IAEA chief focused on enhancing cooperation between Egypt and the agency in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
Throughout April and May, the US and Iran held several rounds of negotiations over Tehran's nuclear programme before the Israeli strikes on Iran began in June.
On 2 July, Araghchi, whose country insists its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes, said in TV remarks that 'the doors of diplomacy will never slam shut.'
Iran suspended cooperation with the IAEA on the same day.

Death Toll Rises to 31 After Military Jet Crashes into School in Dhaka
By Ahmad El-Assasy At least 31 people, mostly students, have died after a Bangladeshi Air Force training jet crashed into a school building in the capital Dhaka, officials from the Ministry of Health confirmed on Tuesday. The aircraft, a training fighter jet, reportedly went down shortly after takeoff on Monday afternoon, slamming into a two-story school building located in a densely populated area of the capital. Authorities initially reported 25 fatalities, including the pilot and 24 others—primarily students. However, the death toll has since increased as more bodies were recovered from the debris of the burned structure. In addition to the fatalities, 171 people were injured, many of them students who were inside the building at the time of the crash. Emergency services rescued them from the fire-engulfed school as thick smoke and flames spread rapidly. Rescue and medical teams continue to search the site for potential survivors and assess the full extent of the damage. Officials have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, which has shocked the nation and raised concerns about safety measures around urban training flight paths. The Bangladeshi government has expressed its condolences to the victims' families and promised support for the injured and the affected school community. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks

EUR 100 Million Debt Swap With Germany to Fund Projects in Egypt
The total volume of German debt allocated for conversion now exceeds EUR 340 million, with key focus areas including healthcare, vocational education, and climate-oriented initiatives. Jul 23, 2025 Egypt is moving forward with the second phase of its debt swap agreement with Germany, converting EUR 100 million into development investments. Half of the amount is set to be channelled into projects by the end of this year, with the remainder to follow by June 2026. The update was shared by Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat, who noted that the total volume of German debt allocated for conversion now exceeds EUR 340 million, with key focus areas including healthcare, vocational education, and climate-oriented initiatives. The debt swap programme is structured so that project ownership remains entirely with Egypt, and each initiative is selected to match national development priorities. German-Egyptian cooperation spans beyond this programme, with Germany maintaining investment and trade links that include more than 1,400 German companies active in the country and bilateral trade exceeding EUR 7 billion. Debt swaps, used globally, allow countries to redirect foreign debt payments into domestic investments, often in partnership with donor governments. Egypt and Germany have maintained similar agreements since the early 2000s.
