Veo 3: Google's Next-Gen AI Video Tool Launches On Gemini Across Middle East

Gulf Insider3 days ago
Now paying Gemini users across the Middle East can use Veo 3, Google's next-generation AI-powered video creation tool that transforms simple text prompts into rich, cinematic video clips complete with sound, music, dialogue and more.
Announced during Google I/O, the tech giant's annual developer event in May, Veo 3 stands out for its native audio generation, covering everything from voiceovers to background noise, which puts it in direct competition with rivals like OpenAI's Sora.
Users can describe any scene they imagine in a short prompt, and the AI will generate a 720p, eight-second video featuring synchronised audio and visuals that include ambient sound, character dialogue, and even realistic sound effects.
Unveiled at Google I/O in May, 'From prompt to production, Veo 3 delivers best-in-class realism, physics, and lip syncing,' said Eli Collins, VP of Product at Google DeepMind. Whether it's a dreamlike short film or a viral meme, Veo 3 is already making waves online.
Unlike other models, 'Veo 3 excels from text and image prompting to real-world physics and accurate lip syncing,' said Eli Collins, VP of Product at Google DeepMind, in a blog post highlighting the model's strengths in realism, responsiveness, and user control.
All videos generated by Veo 3 come with a hidden SynthID watermark, Google's digital signature to label AI-generated content. The company is also testing a SynthID Detector tool to help identify synthetic media.
Additionally, all Veo-generated clips – except those made by Ultra-tier members using Google's new Flow filmmaking platform – will carry a visible watermark for transparency.
Since its release elsewhere in the world, creators have flocked to platforms like X (formerly Twitter), where Veo 3 has been used to generate everything from animated short films to viral meme content – including a surreal clip of Will Smith eating spaghetti.

CAPTAIN'S CORNER : Are you practicing effective "cyber hygiene"?

Every time you do something as innocent as logging into your Instagram or Facebook account, did you know you are inviting a criminal home? The worrying news is that billions of login credentials have been leaked and compiled into datasets online using malicious software, giving criminals 'unprecedented access' to accounts that consumers use each day. Cybersecurity outlet Cybernews says that a total of 16 billion user passwords for a range of popular platforms including Google, Facebook, and Apple have fallen into the wrong hands. Of course, this number includes duplicates and users with multiple accounts. But think about it — 16 billion is roughly double the amount of people on Earth! Against this alarming headline, experts continue to stress the importance of maintaining proper cyber hygiene. Just like we followed anti-virus protocols during the pandemic years — washing hands, wearing face masks, and avoiding crowds — we now need to follow simple steps to shield ourselves from cybercriminals. The first thing is to change your password at least every month. Avoid using the same or similar login credentials on multiple sites. Do not share your password, even with your best friend. If your excuse is forgetfulness, consider using a passkey or password manager. As a second protective layer, add multifactor authentication through your phone, email, or a USB authenticator key. Be cautious about clicking on links or downloading attachments from unknown or suspicious sources, as they may be phishing attempts. Keep your software and operating systems up to date to patch security vulnerabilities. Finally, when checking into the internet from your friendly local coffee shop or busy airport — which is a public Wi-Fi network — use a VPN to encrypt your internet traffic and protect your data from potential eavesdropping. Update your software regularly and back up your files onto an external drive. In today's world, we cannot avoid online business — shopping, banking, and communication. Call me old-fashioned if you will, but the best protection is to always use common sense. If a deal being offered sounds too good to be true — it probably is! No business, whether bank or government, will ask for bank details or personal data like CPR number over the phone. If you have not entered a lucky draw, don't expect to win the bumper prize over the phone!

Meta AI bot used a billion times monthly: Mark Zuckerberg

Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg touted the tech firm's generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) assistant on Wednesday, telling shareholders it is used by a billion people each month across its platforms. Zuckerberg noted the milestone anew at Meta's annual gathering of shareholders and as the social media behemoth vies with Google, Microsoft, OpenAI and others to be a leader in Gen AI. It was not clear how much Meta AI use involved people seeking out the chatbot versus passive users of Meta AI, as it is built into features in its family of apps. Since Google debuted AI Overviews in search results a year ago, it has grown to more than 1.5 billion users, according to Google chief executive Sundar Pichai. 'That means Google Search is bringing Gen AI to more people than any other product in the world,' Pichai said. Google's AI Overviews are automatically provided summaries of search results that appear instead of the previous practice of simply showing pages of blue links to revelant websites. Pichai said last week that Google's dedicated Gemini AI app has more than 400 million monthly users. Tech rivals are rapidly releasing new AI products despite ongoing challenges with preventing misinformation and establishing clear business models, and little sense of how the tech will affect society. Meta unveiled its first standalone AI assistant app on April 29, giving users a direct path to its Gen AI models. 'A billion people are using Meta AI across our apps now, so we made a new standalone Meta AI app for you to check out,' Meta CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg said in a video posted on Instagram at the time. Zuckerberg said the app 'is designed to be your personal AI' and would be primarily accessed through voice conversations with the interactions personalized to the individual user.
