Life is about to take a dark turn as one of Netflix's most-watched shows finally returns for a second season.
It's been three years since Wednesday landed on our screens with Jenna Ortega portraying the brattiest member of the Addams family and titular gothic teenager.
Since coming out, the Tim Burton-directed horror-comedy series has made a lasting impression as the most popular English-language show on the streaming platform, with a whopping 252,100,000 views.
For comparison, trailing behind at the number two spot is Adolescence with a respectable, but considerably smaller sum of 142.6 million views.
The show offers a new take on the iconic fictional family with a focus on Wednesday as a scathing teen who gets caught up solving a murder mystery with her new roommate (brighter-than-the-sun) Enid Sinclair (portrayed by Emma Myers).

Strange creatures, ominous spirits and conniving creatures haunt the corridors of Nevermore Academy – and they must all face Wednesday's brutal wit and sadistic tendencies.
If you are one of the few Netflix subscribers who somehow haven't watched the hit series (that is no doubt banking on the same success a second time around), then now is the time to finally catch up.
On Google Reviews, Aaron R called it 'creepy, kooky and spooky', adding: 'Jenna Ortega IS Wednesday with a knockout performance worthy of praise, and Tim Burton's distinct vision for the show is stellar. Bottom line is there's a lot of fun to be had here and is certainly worth a binge or two. Go watch it.'
'Jenna Ortega's portrayal of the titular Wednesday is both spot-on and surprisingly nuanced, capturing the character's signature deadpan wit and sharp intelligence while also delving into her complex emotions.
'The series cleverly blends the macabre with teenage angst, creating a unique and darkly humorous world,' Harshasai Gubbala added.
Over on Rotten Tomatoes, Collixen D praised it for 'so many twists and turns'. Dan W love its 'dark humour' and Jacob D called it a 'near perfect series' with 'incredible world building'.
All in all, the show has secured a steady 85% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes as well as plenty of critical acclaim with 12 Emmy nominations, including four wins.
A season one rewatch is sure to whet the appetite for the new episodes which will feature Lady Gaga as a Nevermore teacher alongside a new single, Dead Dance. More Trending
The upcoming episodes will also guest star Billie Piper, Thandiwe Newton and Joanna Lumley.
The creators, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, said about the second season: 'This season, Wednesday's journey is darker and more complex as she navigates family, friends, new mysteries, and old adversaries, propelling her headlong into another year at Nevermore.'

Why is Percy Hynes White not in Wednesday season 2?

Percy Hynes White, who portrayed Xavier Thorpe in Netflix 's hit series Wednesday, has been dropped from the show's second season, which premiered on August 6. His removal follows allegations of sexual misconduct made against him in January 2023, which the Canadian actor has denied, calling them a 'campaign of misinformation'. Netflix has not officially confirmed the specific reason for White's departure from the Addams Family spin-off. Within the show's narrative, White's character, Xavier, is explained to have left Nevermore Academy and been sent to Reichenbach Academy in Switzerland. White stated in June 2023 that the accusations were false and led to his family being doxxed and friends receiving death threats.

Dear Mary: Was I wrong to strip my guest's bed before she left?

Q. My friend has had an irritating experience in our local cinema. She speaks fluent French and teaches it in secondary school. Her enjoyment of a very good French film with English subtitles was ruined by a group of women in the back row laughing loudly each time a joke was made in French, before the subtitles appeared. This ruined the experience for my friend, who often sees French films there. How should she shut these show-offs up if they do it again? – E.S., Sussex A. Loud laughter is unacceptable in any circumstances, let alone in a small screening room. However 'erudition signalling' is a plague of all arts venues. At the opera, know-alls disrupt by chortling merrily at incomprehensible libretto jokes before the surtitle appears. You cannot stop the offenders, as the need to flag superiority is a main driver of ticket sales and the annoyances must be endured if your independent cinema is to survive. Q. I have been invited to Sicily for five days by a new friend whose family own an incredible villa there. As there will be no cook in situ I'm worried we will have to go out to dinner in a restaurant each night and that I may be expected to pay for him (because he's providing the roof over our heads). If he will expect me to pay each night – which some might think reasonable – then I can't afford to go. How can I get clarity on this, Mary? – T.W., London W12 A. Text him saying: 'I've had to order a new bank card. If it doesn't arrive by the time I leave I'm going to have to get cash out from my bank in London. How much do you think I will need – tops – for the five days?' Q. A dear friend recently came to stay for a night. While she was having her morning coffee downstairs, I nipped up to her room and stripped her bed and brought the sheets downstairs to the kitchen. She looked very affronted and told me she felt it was 'unfriendly' to have done this, as if to say she wasn't welcome to stay any longer. I explained that I already knew she had no intention of staying longer and that, as I have no domestic help, it suited me to launder the sheets immediately. Mary, were my actions rude? – J.F., London SW12 A. Your guest was right to feel a little unnerved by the urgency you displayed over the laundering. Like an Englishman's home, a guest's room is their 'castle' until such time as he or she has definitely left your premises. Although it seemed rational to you, by stripping the bed you pre-empted the tiny possibility of your guest changing her mind and staying an extra night. This went against the spirit of hospitality.
