Angels bring outfielder Jorge Soler off injured list for series against Braves, his former team
Soler had been out since June 18 with lower-back inflammation. Utility player Scott Kingery was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Soler was expected to return as the Angels' primary right fielder. His return comes just in time for a visit to his former team. The Angels acquired Soler from the Braves on Oct. 31, 2024.
Soler is hitting .207 with eight homers and 26 RBIs in 237 at-bats.
The Braves announced a rotation change for the series. Rookie Didier Fuentes, who is 0-2 with a 10.80 ERA in his first two starts, had his start originally scheduled for Tuesday night pushed back to Wednesday. Right-hander Grant Holmes (4-7, 3.70) moved up one day to start the opening game of the series.

(AP Photo/Charles Krupa) BOSTON (AP) — Wilyer Abreu hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the eighth inning Wednesday afternoon and the Boston Red Sox beat the Cincinnati Reds 5-3 in the completion of a game suspended by rain a night earlier. Trevor Story added an RBI double after Abreu's hit, sending Boston to its third win in four games after a six-game losing skid, its longest since September 2022. Advertisement Spencer Steer hit a two-run homer for the Reds, who have dropped three of four. Brayan Bello (4-3) worked five innings of relief and Aroldis Chapman got the final three outs for his 15th save. With just a few thousand fans of the 32,355 paid attendance in Fenway Park, play resumed at 2:32 p.m. before Steer, the National League's reigning player of the week, hit an 0-1 cutter from Bello into the Green Monster seats to make it 3-2 in the fourth. The Red Sox won the opener of the three-game series Monday when Abreu became just the sixth player in major league history to hit an inside-the-park homer and grand slam in the same game. She may have to up her level even further in the next match, though: the British home favorite will be up against No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. Advertisement 'Yeah, I guess there's no pressure at all on me the next round,' Raducanu said, laughing. There's always pressure on Raducanu playing at Wimbledon, especially after she became the first British woman since 1977 to capture a Grand Slam title when she won at Flushing Meadows as a qualifier four years ago. She struggled with injuries and form after that, and her fourth-round showing at Wimbledon last year is her best result in a major since. But her win against Vondrousova, the 2023 Wimbledon champion and 2019 French Open runner-up, showed Raducanu might be back to her best. "She was playing amazing tennis," Vondrousova said. Seeds keep tumbling at Wimbledon as No. 4 Paolini loses to Rakhimova in second round
Associated Press LONDON (AP) — Last year's runner-up Jasmine Paolini became the fourth top-five seed to exit the women's bracket at Wimbledon, losing 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Wednesday to unseeded Kamilla Rakhimova in the second round. The fourth-seeded Paolini joins No. 2 Coco Gauff, No. 3 Jessica Pegula and No. 5 Zheng Qinwen in making a quick departure from the All England Club, with the other three having all lost in the first round. A total of 23 seeds — 13 men, 10 women — failed to get to the second round, equaling the highest total at any Grand Slam tournament since they began assigning 32 seeds in each singles bracket in 2001. The upsets kept coming in the women's bracket Wednesday, with No. 12-seeded Diana Shnaider losing 6-4, 6-1 to Diane Parry and No. 22 Donna Vekic, who lost to Paolini in the semifinals last year, going out 6-1, 6-3 to Cristina Busca. Paolini lost in the final of both the French Open and Wimbledon last year but has not been past the fourth round in the four majors since. Rakhimova is making her second Wimbledon appearance, having lost in the first round in 2023. In all, the 23-year-old Russian has only made the third round twice in 13 previous majors.
