Miami Dolphins' Jordyn Brooks, Tyrel Dodson address practice altercation: 'Brotherly love'

Yahoo2 days ago
CHICAGO — Shortly after Miami Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks began answering questions about an incident with teammate Tyrel Dodson, the latter stood up right next to Brooks to join the chat with media.
Brooks and Dodson had a fiery altercation at the Dolphins' recent joint practice with the Bears, two days before Miami's preseason opener.
"Wasn't no disagreement," Brooks said. "My dawg right here, man, with us. Fight all the time. So anybody got kids, they fight all the time. That's all. That was man, brotherly love, man."
Former Dolphin Terron Armstead said on his podcast that Brooks was challenging Dodson to more physically bring down a Bears player.
"I mean it's practice," Dodson said. "It's a thud tempo, so we can't worry about what others do. We have our own discipline and stuff like that. So we can only have our standard, which is our standard. If it's thud, it's thud. It's no tackling. So that's what it is."
Bears defenders were seen tackling, shoving and throwing down Miami offensive players. Jaylen Waddle was injured after he was hit by a Bears player in practice.
Mike McDaniel: Jaylen Waddle had injury after Bears practice hit
Coach Mike McDaniel did not reveal details of the injury, which kept Waddle out of the preseason opener.
McDaniel also revealed he was not thrilled to hear about the Brooks-Dodson incident. At the time, McDaniel was on the Dolphins' offensive practice field.
"I'm not pumped about the front part of it, but I also knew that the people that were engaged in it, they came up to me and explained what happened," McDaniel said. "And the biggest thing is they took the time to apologize to the team."
McDaniel hopes there is a positive outcome.
"They knew it wasn't to our standard and what we're about," McDaniel said. "And so they were accountable with their teammates and I think into the team. So overall, I think it was something that was family business that families go through."
Jordyn Brooks-Tyrel Dodson scuffle not up to Miami 'standard'
In the locker room after the game, Brooks said he knows what Dodson can do.
"That was part of what the scuffle was about," Brooks said. "Knowing his abilities to do everything out there on the football field."
Brooks was asked which linebacker is the big brother.
"Definitely me," Brooks said.
In the preseason game, Dodson made a tackle to get Miami's defense off the field in the first quarter. Brooks enthusiastically celebrated with him.
"That was awesome," Brooks said. "You know what I mean? Getting off the field, being extra physical, getting off down. It had me excited. Anytime we get off the field, I'm excited."

Mike McDaniel offers updates on 10 injured Dolphins

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel provided an injury update to the media on Tuesday, following a joint practice and preseason game against the Chicago Bears that ended in a 24-24 tie. Among the players currently out of action are three of the team's biggest names. Safety Elijah Campbell is considered day-to-day with what appeared to be a leg injury sustained during Sunday's game in Chicago. McDaniel also noted that rookie safety Dante Trader Jr. and third-year cornerback Cam Smith are expected to return to drills this week during joint practices with the Detroit Lions. The secondary remains an area of concern for Miami, and the team needs all the depth it can get. Smith, a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft, is fighting for a roster spot after two underwhelming seasons. As a rookie, he played just 20 defensive snaps. Last season, he appeared in six games, recording 133 defensive snaps, 16 tackles, and no passes defended. Trader, a fifth-round pick in the 2025 draft, is expected to participate in drills this week and could see game action in the upcoming preseason matchup in Detroit. He may contribute on special teams while providing depth at safety. McDaniel also gave an update on running back Alexander Mattison, who recently suffered a season-ending neck injury. 'He's doing well,' McDaniel said, adding that the injury is 'not career-ending.' In response to Mattison's absence for the 2025 season, the Dolphins signed running backs Mike Boone and Aaron Shampklin. Rookie Ollie Gordon II had a strong preseason performance against the Bears and could emerge as the team's third running back. He may also challenge Jaylen Wright for meaningful carries and an increased workload, especially in short-yardage situations. On the offensive line, McDaniel indicated that depth players guard Liam Eichenberg and center Andrew Meyer are not expected to return in the immediate future. With an already thin offensive line, the Dolphins will need to explore other viable options beyond their starters. McDaniel told media to not expect tight end Darren Waller to participate in joint practice with the Lions, stating he doesn't want him rushing into things following coming out of retirement. The tight end room is another group that needs all hands on deck, and is light in depth. Injury troubles have plagued the Dolphins this summer, which included a season-ending leg injury suffered by cornerback Kader Kohou earlier in training camp. Miami will look to avoid further setbacks this week as the Dolphins prepare to face the Lions. This article originally appeared on Dolphins Wire: Mike McDaniel offers updates on 10 injured Dolphins

Reigning NBA champion Oklahoma City will play host to the Houston Rockets on October 21 to tip off the league's 80th season, NBA officials announced on Tuesday. MLB postseason schedule: League unveils 2025 playoff, World Series dates

A number of division might still be up for grabs, but the MLB postseason is just around the corner. With roughly seven weeks to go in the regular season, the league announced dates for all 2025 playoff games Tuesday, including the World Series. The action will begin Sept. 30, when every wild-card team is in action. It will wrap — at the latest — Nov. 1. At that point, we'll have our next World Series winner. Here's how all the action will shake out: MLB wild-card series dates The wild-card games will take place between Sept. 30 and — if necessary — Oct. 2. All eight teams will play Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. If any wild-card series is tied after the first two games, a third game will be held Oct. 2 to determine a winner. The wild-card series will air on ABC, ESPN and ESPN2. The league did not announce any game times for any of its postseason series at the time. Tuesday, Sept. 30 American League Wild Card A, Game 1 American League Wild Card B, Game 1 National League Wild Card A, Game 1 National League Wild Card B, Game 1 Wednesday, Oct. 1 American League Wild Card A, Game 2 American League Wild Card B, Game 2 National League Wild Card A, Game 2 National League Wild Card B, Game 2 Thursday, Oct. 2 American League Wild Card A, Game 3* American League Wild Card B, Game 3* National League Wild Card A, Game 3* National League Wild Card B, Game 3* *(if necessary) MLB division series dates The division series will begin Saturday, Oct. 4 and run through Sat. League championship series are a best-of-seven format. Teams need to win four games in the series to advance. The broadcast schedule for each league will mimic the division round, with Fox properties handling the ALCS and TBS properties handling the NLCS. Sunday, Oct. 12 ALCS Game 1 Monday, Oct. 13 NLCS Game 1 ALCS Game 2 Tuesday, Oct. 14 NLCS Game 2 Wednesday, Oct. 15 ALCS Game 3 Thursday, Oct. 16 NLCS Game 3 ALCS Game 4 Friday, Oct. 17 NLCS Game 4 ALCS Game 5* Saturday, Oct. 18 NLCS Game 5* Sunday, Oct. 19 ALCS Game 6* Monday, Oct. 20 NLCS Game 6 ALCS Game 7* Tuesday, Oct. 21 NLCS Game 7* *(if necessary) MLB World Series dates The 2025 World Series will begin Friday, Oct. 24. A winner will be crowned — at the latest — by Nov. 1. All World Series games will air on Fox and Fox Deportes. Like the league championship series, the World Series is a best-of-seven format. The first team to win four games in the series walks away as the champion. Friday, Oct. 24 Game 1, at better 2025 record Saturday, Oct. 25 Game 2, at better 2025 record Monday, Oct. 27 Game 3 Tuesday, Oct. 28 Game 4 Wednesday, Oct. 29 Game 5* Friday, Oct. 31 Game 6*, at better 2025 record Saturday, Nov. 1 Game 7*, at better 2025 record *(if necessary) With seven weeks to play, a number of divisions and wild-card spots are still up for grabs. The Detroit Tigers and Milwaukee Brewers hold the largest division leads at 6.5 games. While both teams stand an extremely strong chance of making the playoffs, they don't hold large enough leads to guarantee they will win their divisions. The wild-card races are even more jumbled, with three teams in each league out of the wild card by fewer than 5.0 games. That should make for some pretty exciting baseball down the stretch.
