Shrek 5 release date delayed to June 2027 as cast and directors return
This marks the second delay for the project, which was initially slated for July 2026.
While no specific reason was provided for the postponement, industry trends suggest that the move aligns with Universal's history of strong summer box office performance for animated hits like Despicable Me, How to Train Your Dragon, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
On its new summer date, Shrek 5 will arrive just days after Sony's Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The original December 2026 release would have followed major titles including Disney's Avengers: Doomsday and Ice Age 6.
The beloved voice cast — Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and Cameron Diaz as Fiona — will return, with Zendaya joining in a new role. The film will be directed by franchise veterans Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn.
Shrek 5 will hit theaters nearly 26 years after the original 2001 blockbuster, which redefined animated storytelling with its comedic twist on fairy tales. The franchise has grossed billions globally across four main films and two Puss in Boots spinoffs.
As part of the schedule changes, Illumination's untitled event film has been moved up to April 16, 2027.

'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' model leak hints at possible Savage Hulk return in upcoming MCU film
Mark Ruffalo is set to reprise his role as Bruce Banner in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and new merchandise leaks may have given fans a clue about the Hulk's next transformation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Hulk's portrayal in recent MCU instalments has faced criticism from fans who miss the character's earlier, more aggressive persona seen in The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Since 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, the Hulk has not appeared in his 'rage mode' form, with Avengers: Endgame introducing 'Smart Hulk' off-screen. According to YouTuber Displaying Model Behavior, Hasbro's 2026 Marvel Legends toy line will feature figures for Spider-Man, the Punisher and the Hulk — reportedly 'a savage version of the Jade Giant.' This has led to speculation that Spider-Man: Brand New Day could see the return of a more ferocious Hulk. Fan theories suggest something in the film may cause Banner to lose control, potentially leading to a confrontation with Spider-Man and the Punisher. Social media posts reacting to the leak have voiced enthusiasm for the idea, with one user writing: 'Please let this be true, we need the Savage Hulk back.' Another added: 'We wanted this.' While early speculation pointed to Mr Negative as a possible trigger for Hulk's rage, insiders, including The Cosmic Circus' Alex Perez, have stated the character will not appear in the film. The main antagonist remains unknown, although The Hollywood Reporter has claimed that 'Spider-Man, Punisher and Hulk will all fight one another before figuring out who the real bad guys are.'

Daredevil: Born Again season two could be the last, says Charlie Cox
Actor Charlie Cox has suggested that the upcoming second season of Daredevil: Born Again could mark the end of the Disney+ series. Speaking at GalaxyCon, the Daredevil star revealed that the latest season, which recently wrapped filming, includes a storyline element not found in the original Marvel Comics — a hint that the show may conclude. 'There's something we do in this final season that doesn't exist in the comics,' Cox told fans during the panel, fueling speculation about the show's future. His comments left some viewers disappointed, especially given that Daredevil: Born Again only debuted earlier this year as a reboot of the fan-favorite Netflix series. However, co-star Vincent D'Onofrio, who portrays Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, offered a different perspective. Responding to a fan on social media, D'Onofrio suggested there is 'a good chance' the series could continue into a third season, leaving the question open. Even if the Disney+ series concludes with season two, the character of Daredevil will remain active in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cox is set to reprise the role in the upcoming Spider-Man trilogy and future Avengers projects. In the comics, Daredevil frequently teams up with Spider-Man, indicating his storyline will extend beyond the streaming series. Uncertainty also surrounds the future of Kingpin in the MCU. While the character could continue appearing in other Marvel titles, his arc may wrap with Daredevil: Born Again or the forthcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in Spring 2026, ahead of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Marvel fans will have to wait for official confirmation on whether season two will indeed be the last.

Spider-Man 4 set photos spark speculation over Sadie Sink possibly playing Gwen Stacy
Newly surfaced set photos from Spider-Man 4, officially titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, have fueled fan speculation about who actress Sadie Sink might be portraying in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film. The movie, a collaboration between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, is currently in production and will see Tom Holland reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, alongside returning cast members Zendaya as Michelle 'MJ' Jones-Watson and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds. While Marvel has not confirmed Sink's character, images shared on social media appear to show someone resembling the Stranger Things star with blonde hair on set. This has led many fans to suggest she could be playing Gwen Stacy, a well-known character from the Spider-Man comics. However, others remain unconvinced the person in the photos is actually Sink, and there is no official confirmation that Gwen Stacy will appear in the film. Plot details for Spider-Man: Brand New Day remain under wraps. Sink is not the only new addition to the cast whose role has yet to be revealed. Liza Colón-Zayas, known for The Bear, has also joined the project in an undisclosed part. The film will also feature Jon Bernthal returning as Frank Castle/The Punisher, Mark Ruffalo reprising his role as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, and Michael Mando returning as Mac Gargan/Scorpion, a character last seen in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017). Directed as part of Marvel's Phase 6, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to release in U.S. theaters on July 31, 2026. It will be followed later that year by Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, with Avengers: Secret Wars set for release on December 17, 2027.
