'Great example of humanity': Shahzad Shaikh lost life while rescuing minor girl from drain in Mumbai, family awaits financial help
MUMBAI: He gave his life rescuing a minor girl of another faith from a drain, but now his own family is in dire straits, awaiting urgent monetary help. Over a month after Shahzad Shaikh, 28, a daily wage worker, rescued Sonali Banjara, 8, who fell in a drain at Ramabai Colony area in Ghatkopar East while trying to retrieve a ball, Shaikh's family said no financial help has reached them from anywhere. At around 3 pm on May 18, Shaikh took a break for lunch from his mason's work and was home when he heard cries of people in the neighbourhood. He went out and found that the minor girl who had fallen in the drain was crying for help. He jumped into the drain, lifted the girl up, and handed her over to another man, but he himself got stuck in the slush. Sonali survived. However, Shaikh struggled to come out but could not. He was found over two hours later, and the fire brigade and Pantnagar police took him to a local hospital where he was declared dead. Originally from Bahraich (UP), Shaikh, along with his wife Rukhsar and four children (three sons, one daughter), lived in a rented house at the Ramabai Colony. Sonali, with her mother Asha, also a daily wager, lives in the same neighbourhood. After Shaikh's death while rescuing the minor Hindu girl, Rukhsar, along with her four children, moved to her elder sister's place in Govandi. No help has come from anywhere so far," said Rukhsar. Her brother-in-law Hasnain Khan, a salesman at an electronic shop, said: "Shahzad did not think about the dangers of jumping into the deep drain as he wanted to save the minor girl. Today his own family is in huge trouble. The govt must do something for his family," said Hasnain. Moved by Shaikh's courage, kind-hearted attitude, and the hardship his family is facing, social worker Saeed Khan has written to CM Devendra Fadnavis, requesting him to sanction a grant for Shahzad's family. "Shahzad did not think a bit that it was a Hindu girl and gave his own life to rescue the minor girl. He set a great example of humanity and his family deserves help," said Khan. "This is a shining example of humanity winning over narrow communal and casteist prejudice. We must not fail the brave man in his death." Khan added that the NGO Association for Muslim Professionals (AMP) has begun crowdfunding for Shaikh's family.

What did Minecraft YouTuber Skeppy do? Alleged grooming scandal surfaces after accusers retract statement
(Image via @Skeppy/X) Minecraft YouTuber Skeppy, aka Zak Ahmed, recently found himself at the center of a messy internet firestorm. Two individuals from his community, Csyre and Kaiya, accused him of serious misconduct, including grooming. But things took a wild U-turn when both accusers fully retracted their statements. Confused? Here's everything that went down. So... What Exactly Happened? The controversy kicked off when Csyre and Kaiya posted allegations against Skeppy on social media. Their posts accused him of emotional abuse and grooming, which instantly caught traction in the online Minecraft fandom. Instead of tweets, they dropped Google Docs. Yes, really. Full-on documents with screenshots, personal accounts, and emotionally heavy paragraphs. The claims looked serious, and Skeppy's name started trending for all the wrong reasons. The Skeppy Situation Is Disgusting... Csyre's Claims: A Bad Breakup or Something More? Csyre alleged that she had a rocky, emotionally painful relationship with Skeppy from late 2023 to 2024. She shared screenshots and anecdotes describing moments where he ghosted her, ignored her distress, and generally acted like, well… a terrible partner. But here's the catch: everything she described seemed to come from a consensual adult relationship . by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Many Are Watching Tariffs - Few Are Watching What Nvidia Just Launched Seeking Alpha Read Now Undo It was messy, sure. But was it illegal or dangerous? That part wasn't clear. Kaiya's Allegation: Claims Without Backing? Then came Kaiya's turn. They alleged that Skeppy had tried to start an inappropriate relationship with them when they were 16. Serious stuff, right? Except… nothing in the shared doc really supported those claims. Most of the screenshots showed awkward interactions, pronoun misuse, and vague comments that didn't prove any grooming occurred. Even YouTubers reviewing the docs pointed this out, calling the whole thing 'slanderous.' Insane Skeppy Update Plot Twist: They Took Everything Back Just when things were spiraling, both Csyre and Kaiya walked back their accusations. Csyre said her words were misinterpreted and that she didn't mean for people to take her emotional experiences as facts. She deleted her original posts and retracted the statements. Kaiya admitted their belief about Skeppy's actions was wrong, apologized, and confirmed that they had no evidence of any criminal behavior. Everything they had posted? Gone. Skeppy's Silence Speaks Volumes? As of now, Skeppy hasn't publicly addressed the drama. No apology. No rebuttal. Just silence. Some fans think this is smart—why stir the pot when the allegations have already been debunked? Others feel he owes his audience at least a comment. Skeppy's career seems untouched for now, but this whole episode is a wild reminder that not everything online is black and white. Akhilesh Yadav alleges conspiracy behind school mergers, targets BJP over education policy
Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government , alleging a deep-rooted conspiracy behind the recent move to merge government schools in rural areas. In a post on X in Hindi, Yadav claimed that the BJP is systematically undermining the education system to deprive future generations of their fundamental right to education. "Education is the truest measure of development. The continued neglect of education and educators under the BJP government raises serious concerns that this is part of a larger conspiracy," he said. "Education brings awareness, and with it comes the courage to stand united against exploitation and oppression. The self-confidence gained through education poses a threat to authoritarian parties like the BJP," he said, adding, "If there are no schools, there will be no opposition to the BJP." Live Events The former chief minister expressed fears that closing government schools in villages could pave the way for BJP-affiliated organisations to open their institutions "under the garb of service," where they could allegedly propagate "divisive ideologies." Yadav further accused the ruling party of fostering a crowd of "uneducated, superstitious, and unscientific minds" that could be easily manipulated. "A truly educated and socially conscious person can never support an ideology like that of the BJP," he said. Highlighting the symbolic importance of having schools within sight, he said, "It is well known that what disappears from sight disappears from the mind. If schools are no longer visible in villages, the very inspiration for education will vanish." Questioning the government's priorities, Yadav argued, "If a polling booth can be set up for a single voter, why can't a school be run for 30 children?" Calling it a part of a broader "conspiracy to further marginalise the already deprived PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) communities," Yadav urged for resistance against the move and demanded the protection and expansion of government-run schools across Uttar Pradesh. According to sources, the Yogi-Adityanath-led government decided to merge schools to rationalise educational resources and address issues such as low enrolment, teacher shortage, and duplication of infrastructure. The move, officials claim, aims to consolidate small and under-enrolled schools and merge them with nearby institutions. There are about 1.40 lakh primary and upper primary government schools in the state, out of which 29,000 have 50 or fewer students, an official said, adding that around 89,000 teachers are posted in these schools. Yadav also posted a news story from Kannauj, which alleges 38 schools in the districts are facing fear of merger.
