'Amazon £39 Prime Day hair tool rivals my £289 straighteners'

Daily Mirror08-07-2025
Faszin's best-selling Hair Straighteners are currently reduced to £39.99 from £129.99 in the Amazon sale
A good pair of hair straighteners can easily set shoppers back by over £250 - just consider the prices of top-tier models from ghd and Dyson. So when a genuinely impressive tool drops to under £40, it's worth shouting about.
The Faszin Hair Straightener is currently reduced to £39.99 from £119.98 in Amazon's Prime Day sale, saving shoppers £90. Having tested the tool myself, I can confirm that this deal is a total steal.
Now, I've been a loyal fan of my GHD Chronos straighteners for some time. They consistently deliver salon-sleek results, and I've always considered them worth the high £289 price tag. So, I was genuinely curious to see how the noticeably more affordable Faszin's would stack up.
Pretty well, it turns out. These straighteners transformed my hair from unruly and fluffy to sleek and polished in under five minutes. As someone with naturally wavy, fine-to-medium hair, I was seriously impressed by how quickly and efficiently I could style my entire head with minimal effort and no aching arms.
The extra-wide 42mm plates are a game-changer, allowing me to glide through larger sections of hair in a single pass. Plus, they heat up fast, reaching 180°C in 20 seconds.

Product Description
There are 11 temperatures in total (ranging from 130°C to 230°C), so I could easily customise the heat depending on my styling needs. The LCD display is another thoughtful touch, counting down how long is left until the chosen heat level is reached - a small detail, but it makes the process seem seamless.
That's one area where they differ from the Chronos, which heat to an optimum 185°C and don't offer adjustable settings. While that temp still works brilliantly for my hair, it's definitely a bonus to have the option to go higher or lower depending on what I'm doing.
Another hair tool that allows you to alter the temperature is Cloud Nine's The Touch Iron (£189), which has two heat settings: 165°C to 195°C. Otherwise, Remington's Shine Therapy Hair Straightener (£23, down from £79) features a digital temperature display with nine settings ranging from 150°C to 230°C.
In terms of ease of use, the Faszin straighteners are lightweight and come with a 360 swivel cord, so I didn't have to deal with frustrating wire tangles mid-style. I also loved the styling clips included in the box; they helped me section off hair neatly, so I could straighten each layer without constantly flicking pieces out of the way.
Once I was done, I used the lock feature to clamp the plates shut. Not only does this make storing them easier, but it also reduces the risk of burns after use.
Honestly, I don't have any complaints about these straighteners. That being said, a couple of Amazon reviewers noted that they didn't last more than six months, and I've only had mine for a few weeks, so only time will tell how true that is.
That said, for £39.99, they're an absolute bargain and have firmly earned a place in my beauty routine. They're available to shop via Amazon, but be quick if tempted, as the Prime Day sale ends on Friday (11th July).

Amazon expands its perishable delivery service, putting pressure on traditional grocers

Amazon is now rolling out a service where its Prime members can order their blueberries and milk at the same time as their batteries and other basic items. The online juggernaut said Wednesday that customers in more than 1,000 cities and towns now have access to fresh groceries with its free Same-Day Delivery on orders over $25 for Prime members, with plans to reach over 2,300 by the end of the year. The company said that if an order doesn't meet the minimum, members can still choose same-day delivery for a $2.99 fee. For customers without a Prime membership, the service is available with a $12.99 fee, regardless of order size. In the past, Prime subscribers' grocery orders were fulfilled through Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods. The expansion is expected to put more pressure on grocery delivery services offered by such rivals as Walmart, Instacart and Target.

Amazon adds perishable foods to same-day delivery to take on Instacart, Walmart

NEW YORK, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Subscribers to (AMZN.O), opens new tab Prime service can now get strawberries, milk, meats and frozen dinners on the same day they order them as the company expands its fast-delivery option to perishable food items, Amazon announced on Wednesday. It is the latest move by Amazon to compete with grocery delivery services offered by Walmart+ (WMT.N), opens new tab and Instacart. Shoppers in more than 1,000 U.S. cities - including Phoenix; Raleigh, North Carolina; and Tampa, Florida - can get doorstep delivery within hours, while Amazon plans to expand the service to 2,300 cities by the end of the year. The company announced in June it is investing $4 billion to bring same-day and next-day delivery services to more than 4,000 rural U.S. communities by the end of the year. Previously, Prime subscribers' grocery orders were fulfilled through Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods. Now the additional service will complete orders through its same-day delivery logistics locations. Same-day delivery is free for Prime members, who pay $14.99 monthly or $149 annually, for orders over $25. Walmart's membership service, Walmart+, costs $98 a year and offers same-day delivery in under three hours - with some orders arriving in as little as 30 minutes. "Notably, Amazon has lowered the minimum order threshold to just $25 - a move that directly threatens Instacart by enabling customers to use Amazon for quick, one-off purchases, a core part of Instacart's value proposition," said Blake Droesch, analyst with eMarketer. Instacart's (CART.O), opens new tab stock slumped 12% in early trading on Wednesday, while Walmart (WMT.N), opens new tab and Kroger (KR.N), opens new tab were down about 2% and 5%, respectively. Amazon shares were up about 1%. As the largest grocery retailer in the United States, most of Walmart's deliveries tend to be dry groceries and perishables. In May, Walmart said it will soon be able to offer delivery within three hours to 95% of the U.S. population, and that faster delivery speeds are helping drive its business. Between February and April, Walmart reported a 91% increase in deliveries under three hours compared with the same period last year. Amazon shoppers "can order milk alongside electronics; oranges, apples, and potatoes with a mystery novel; and frozen pizza at the same time as tools for their next home improvement project - and check out with one cart and have everything delivered to their doorstep within hours," Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores, said in a press release. E-commerce giant Amazon has struggled in previous years to get shoppers into its physical stores. While the company is focusing on its U.S. grocery experience, it is facing hurdles in the UK with its suppliers, a study by British grocery regulator the Groceries Code Adjudicator found.

The newest version of the device typically retails at £209 but is currently a flash deal at Amazon, reduced to £159 offering a saving of £50. The tablet has an 11-inch screen, 64GB storage, and also has a feature that lets owners split the screen into three for multitasking. Other highlights include a 'Secure Folder' to store important data such as payment details. It also comes with a year of warranty. The Galaxy Tab A9+ 2025 model is available in three colourways - graphite, silver, and navy - with all three hues are on sale for £159. The tablet also boasts a camera at the back. Haircare brand ghd launch four new tools that make curls 'last all day' Bose QuietComfort wireless headphones with 'amazing sound' now £100 off on Amazon Galaxy's Tab A9+ 2025 model has more than 2,400 reviews on Amazon, and more than 200 have been bought in the past month. One user described it as 'much cheaper than an iPad' and said it 'works well'. Another customer bought it as a gift for someone else and said: "Having never had a Samsung tablet before, I was a little wary of it, but since buying and giving it to my wife, she's over the moon, and doesn't miss her iPad one bit." Buyers who want an Apple tablet can buy an iPad mini 2024 edition at Currys for £499. It has an 8.3-inch screen, built-in Apple Intelligence, and promises an 'all-day battery life'. Returning to the reviews on Amazon's Galaxy Tab A9+, another user bought it on Prime Day. They said: "To be honest, I wasn't expecting too much out of it. I've set it up today, and I'm very impressed by this little tablet. It was easy to set up and customise. "It's very responsive and is perfect for my relative to use. If anyone is looking for a cheaper alternative to an iPad mini, then take a look at the Samsung A9 tablet." Someone else bought it to replace an older tablet model, but wasn't as pleased. They wrote: "The one annoying problem is that they only provide a charging lead that is not a USB connector as stated in the product description. I had to buy a charging plug with a socket for this lead. "Very disappointing, you wouldn't buy a TV without the means to plug it in. It stinks of profiteering by Samsung." For cheaper alternatives to Apple and Samsung devices, this Lenovo Tab M11 is £119 at Argos, originally £129. Designed for streaming and to be used as a study companion, it has an 11-inch screen and up to ten hours of video playback. However, it does not come with a charger. An additional purchaser of the Galaxy Tab A9+ said: "It's a nice tablet; the colours are crisp and vibrant. It's a high-quality product. It runs quickly. I really liked the tablet's colour options. I chose a darker shade of blue, and I love it. The expandable memory feature is good. "It's easy to use, and the settings aren't confusing. Being Android, I didn't have to pay extra for any apps."
