Springfield rallies past Sod Poodles 10-9
AMARILLO, Tex–It's been a wild start to the Texas League season for the Springfield Cardinals.
Their season opener at Hammons Field last week was rained out for the first time ever.
And Tuesday night, the team scored 16 runs to open a six game series in Amarillo.
This is Springfield's only trip to Sodtown this season.
And the Cardinals strike in the first, Dakota Harris grounds to second, the Sod Poodles try to turn two, but the relay to first ends up in the dugout, Chase Davis scores 1-0.
Then Jeremy Rivas singles to center, that scores Harris and it's 2-0.
Springfield gets more in the second, J.J. Wetherholt with a double to left, his first RBI of the season, it's 3-0 Cardinals.
Amarillo had two on in the third, and Gavin Conticello drives this to left, but Jacob Buchberger makes the diving catch to end the inning.
The Soddies led 6-5 in the seventh, two on for Ramon Mendoza who takes this deep to right center, into the triple wall, two Cards score, and it's 7-6 Springfield.
Springfield would score two in the ninth and win 10-9.
The Cardinals are 4-1 this season.
