Dodge Charger Daytona Sees Massive Discounts as EV Muscle Strategy Falters

In a startling turn for Dodge's much-hyped electric muscle car, the 2024 Charger Daytona is now being offered by at least one U.S. dealer at more than $40,000 off its original MSRP — bringing the price down from $75,000 to just $30,000.
The steep discount has sparked discussion across automotive forums and social media platforms, with many pointing to the vehicle's polarizing execution as a possible explanation for the fire-sale pricing.
Positioned as the electric heir to Dodge's combustion-era muscle icons, the Charger Daytona promised to blend EV performance with nostalgic character. But reviews and consumer impressions suggest it hasn't lived up to expectations — at least not yet.
Despite offering up to 670 horsepower in all-wheel drive configuration, critics note that the car's rear-wheel-drive mode activates only 335 horsepower. Given the Charger Daytona's hefty curb weight of over 5,000 pounds, this dramatically limits the kind of tire-shredding antics one might expect from a muscle car.
Additionally, the Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust — Dodge's bespoke internal sound system designed to emulate the aggressive growl of a V8 — has faced scrutiny. Unlike competitors such as Hyundai's IONIQ 5 N, which includes simulated shifting and RPM behavior, the Daytona's sound system produces a constant drone. As tech reviewer Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) noted, the novelty wore off quickly, prompting him to disable the sound altogether.
While some may see the dramatic price cuts as a rare deal, others interpret them as a red flag for Dodge's electrified muscle strategy. Enthusiasts have also taken issue with the car's inability to match or exceed the performance benchmarks set by the outgoing 707-horsepower Hellcat.
Reddit users report that at least one dealership has further lowered the price to $30,000 — a $45,000 reduction. For context, that makes the Daytona cheaper than many economy sedans, despite its premium positioning.
With Dodge preparing to roll out additional six-cylinder gas-powered models, the automaker may be counting on those offerings to shore up sales. But for now, the Charger Daytona's EV revolution appears to be stuck in neutral.

Even through the camo, there are clues. The EV5 GT prototype wears a set of sporty alloy wheels that bear a strong resemblance to those on the EV6 GT. Yellow brake calipers peek through the spokes, hinting at upgraded stopping power, while a wider stance and lower ride height suggest revised suspension tuning and stickier rubber underneath. In typical GT fashion, the visual changes are purposeful, not just cosmetic. Stylistically, the EV5 GT will borrow heavily from Kia's latest EV design playbook. Think EV6 and EV9, but with added aggression unique to the GT family. Unlike the EV6, the EV5 GT will have a boxy body, closely resembling the EV9. Unlike China's EV5, the GT model is based on the global version, which means revisions aimed at broader markets. Chief among them is a redesigned center console, replacing the less conventional jump seat setup with a more premium, practical armrest. Official details of what's under the EV5 GT's skin are still scarce, but the EV6 GT should set a benchmark at 576 hp and a 0-62 mph time of 3.5 seconds. It's unclear if the EV5 GT will have the same output, but a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup is almost certain at this point. Inside reports point to using an 82 kWh nickel-cobalt-manganese battery, with a projected range between 373 and 435 miles. The Kia EV5 GT will be produced in China and Korea, so it's unlikely to reach the U.S. market, at least for now. Nissan Is Working On A Cheap Sedan For The Masses
Embattled automotive giant Nissan is facing a tough time. The company has been forced to lay off thousands of workers and cancel plans for increased battery production. Things are going so badly that some question how long Nissan can survive. But with new CEO Ivan Espinosa at the helm and promising new vehicles, hope endures, and one of those new vehicles has just been unofficially revealed through patent images discovered by Top Gear Philippines. The images were filed in China in September last year and officially registered exactly one month ago, suggesting that the sedan they depict will make production. The boomerang-shaped headlights remind us of some Hyundai and Kia designs, while the lightbar at the rear calls to mind the Dodge Charger and Durango. And while we can't see much detail in these images, the fastback shape indicates that this vehicle may play loose with the term "sedan," likely appearing with a liftback tailgate like the latest Audi A5. This gives the vehicle the style and grace of a sedan with the cargo-carrying and loading abilities of a hatchback. More than that, we cannot be sure of yet, but this design conforms to the new language heralded by last year's Beijing Auto Show concepts, which included a sedan with similar looks to this. That Nissan Evo concept was announced as a plug-in hybrid, and it's likely that this new sedan would also avoid going all-electric. Since we don't know exactly what car this previews, it's difficult to estimate the price. Its size is unclear from this filing, and both the Altima and the Sentra could do with a makeover. A new Maxima could also make a certain amount of sense, especially with the upcoming Leaf crossover filling the needs of those who need a taller vehicle. Until we hear something directly from Nissan, though, it's too soon to get excited. The fact that the patent images were filed in China could mean that the car will never reach America, especially if it ends up being produced there, but it also means this shouldn't carry an exorbitant price, and the U.S. market is in dire need of more affordable cars.
