Andhra govt signs pact to boost startup ecosystem, entrepreneurial skills
The Andhra Pradesh government signed an agreement with Cyient Foundation and AICTE to boost entrepreneurship and innovation. The initiative will launch innovation clusters, starting in Visakhapatnam, and establish support centers, IPR cells, and mentorship programs to bridge industry-academia gaps and foster a startup ecosystem statewide.

The Andhra Pradesh government on Wednesday signed an agreement with Cyient Foundation and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to enhance entrepreneurial and innovation skills.The tripartite agreement, signed in the presence of Information Technology (IT) Minister Nara Lokesh at his Undavalli residence, includes participation from Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC), Cyient Foundation, and AICTE representatives."Innovation clusters will be launched, starting with Visakhapatnam, to promote startup culture, entrepreneurial thinking, and intellectual property generation in academic institutions," said a release.The initiative focuses on bridging industry-academia gaps and strengthening partnerships among institutions, investors, and startups to establish a thriving innovation-driven ecosystem across the state.Specialised Innovation Creation and Research for Entrepreneurship (i-CARE) and Idea Creation and Auxiliary Facilities for Entrepreneurship (i-CAFE) centres will be launched to support entrepreneurship, research, and idea incubation for students, faculty, and startup aspirants statewide, the release said.Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Technology Transfer cells will be set up in engineering colleges, especially around Visakhapatnam, to enable commercialisation of academic innovations and technical solutions. The initiative also includes boot camps, hackathons, conclaves, and mentorships to nurture creativity and enterprise among young innovators and educators in higher institutions.APSSDC will act as the nodal agency coordinating implementation, integrating efforts from state departments, institutions, and private partners to achieve scalable, impactful innovation outcomes, the release added.

New Delhi [India], June 14 (ANI): The Inspector General of Indonesia's Ministry of Defence, Lt Gen Rui Duarte, and Vice Admiral (Retd) Prof Dr Amarulla Octavian, Vice Chairman of Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), visited the India Pavilion and DRDO stall at Indo-Defence 2024 exhibition in Jakarta, Indonesia on Saturday. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) participated in the Indo-Defence 2024 exhibition in Jakarta, Indonesia, from June 11 to 14, as part of the India Pavilion. The event provides a platform for DRDO to showcase India's cutting-edge defence technologies from its defence R&D powerhouse. In a post on X on Tuesday, DRDO shared information and attached a video showcasing some of its cutting-edge technologies, such as ASTRA MK-I, Remotely Operated Vehicle-Daksh, Low Frequency Dunking Sonar (LFDS-X), Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C), Wheeled Armoured Platform (Whap), Varunastra Heavy Weight Torpedo, and Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile. DRDO shared the details, posting that the India Pavilion, where its technologies are showcased, is located at Hall F-46, JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta. Earlier, in line with the government's vision to establish a robust defence industrial ecosystem with the participation of both public and private sectors, Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (VRDE), a DRDO laboratory located in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra, has taken a major step forward by transferring technologies of nine systems to 10 industries. The licensing agreements were handed over in the presence of the Secretary of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, Dr Samir V Kamat, during an event organised at VRDE on June 7, according to the Ministry of also signed an MoU with COEP Technological University, Pune, to collaborate on cutting-edge technologies and emerging areas. WEF to set up Energy, Cybersecurity Centre in Andhra Pradesh
VIJAYAWADA: In a significant step towards positioning Andhra Pradesh as a global hub for innovation and sustainable development, the State government has partnered with the World Economic Forum to set up the WEF - Andhra Pradesh Centre for Energy and Cyber Resilience in Amaravati. This initiative is a part of the government's broader 'Swarnandhra Vision 2047'. The State government on Thursday issued an which outlines the establishment of this pioneering Centre under the WEF's global Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) Network. It will be India's first thematic centre on energy transition and green industries, in collaboration with WEF's Centre for Energy and Materials (CENMAT) and AI-led digital transformation and Cybersecurity, in collaboration with WEF's Centre for Cybersecurity. The initiative follows meetings with WEF at Davos and would position Amaravati as India's leading centre on green energy, sustainability and cybersecurity. The project is being spearheaded by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh, with the goal of boosting Andhra Pradesh's international presence and attracting investments in clean energy, AI, and digital infrastructure. The key objectives of the Centre are to raise Andhra Pradesh's global profile and build international partnerships, support the growth of green industries and improve cybersecurity, implement pilot projects in clean energy, smart grids, and use of AI in areas like farming and governance, train people in cybersecurity and new technologies, and connect the State with global platforms like the WEF's Forum's Annual Meeting in Davos. The state government has sanctioned Rs 36 crore for a period of three years to support the Centre's activities. The Centre will be governed by a high-level committee chaired by the HRD & IT Minister Nara Lokesh, a release said.

CBDT probes ‘evasion' via crypto investments

Several 'High-Risk Persons' Under Lens For Not Complying With I-T Act Provisions NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has launched an investigation against several 'high-risk persons' who were allegedly evading taxes and laundering unaccounted funds by investing them in cryptocurrency. These entities and individuals, who were identified for verification and scrutiny, were allegedly involved in Virtual Digital Asset (VDA) transactions and did not comply with the provisions of the Incometax Act, sources said. Three years ago, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman got parliamentary approval to amend the law to mandate a flat 30% tax, along with the applicable surcharge and cess, on income arising from VDA transfer. The law also bars the deduction of any expenses, except the cost of acquisition. Neither is the set-off of losses on these investments or trading allowed, nor is it permitted to carry forward the losses. The review of VDA returns pertains to 2022-23 and 2023-24. The move is part of the recent 'nudge' philosophy of the department, hoping that the emails will do the trick and action will be taken against only those who do not respond to the communication or do not correct their returns. While govt is yet to recognise cryptocurrency as an asset class, it decided to impose a flat 30% tax on VDAs, along with 1% tax deducted at source (TDS) on the sale consideration. This drew a lot of adverse comments from the crypto lobby, which stated that exchanges would shut down and trading would move out of the country and operate through illegal means. There has also been lobbying for recognising crypto as an asset, even as govt believes that there needs to be a global push for cross-border regulation.
