The maintenance on Witbank Water Treatment Works, Old Coronation Bulk Water Pipeline, Point B Reservoir, Point D Reservoir Pump Station, and Point D 5 Megalitre Reservoir has been postponed for a week.
The maintenance is now scheduled to start on July 21.
All areas supplied by Reservoirs Point A, B, C, D, and E will be affected.
The municipality anticipates that the shutdown will only take five days.
After the maintenance, reservoirs will be refilled and the water system recharged.
Full restoration of supply may take up to three days to normalise across all areas.
'Water tankers and JoJo tanks will be arranged and dispatched to all affected communities to ensure access to water throughout the shutdown,' was the word from the municipality.

Department reports dropping dam levels in Lowveld region

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) has urged Lowveld residents to increase water conservation efforts as dam levels across the region show a slight decline, dropping overall from 98.3% to 98.2%. While some dams maintained steady water levels, others recorded minor decreases. Buffelskloof, Witklip, Kwena, Primkop, Longmere, and Klipkopjes dams all remained stable, with levels hovering around or just above full capacity – for example, Buffelskloof and Witklip at 100.2%, Primkop at 100.4%, and Longmere at 98.2%. ALSO READ: Mpumalanga foot-and-mouth disease outbreak, what you need to know Meanwhile, several dams experienced small declines: Blyderivierpoort dropped from 100% to 99.4%, Driekoppies receded slightly from 93.3% to 93.1%, and Da Gama fell from 98.4% to 97.4%. The Injaka Dam's level decreased from 98.4% to 98.2%, Ohrigstad fell from 76% to 75.4%, and Nooitgedacht dipped just below full capacity from 100% to 99.8%. The DWS reminded South Africans that the country is water-scarce, making every drop count. Responsible water use and protecting water resources are vital to securing long-term water supply. The department called on the public to continue using water wisely and adopt water-saving habits as a daily practice. At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Emalahleni already without water amid planned five-day water shutdown

Emalahleni is already experiencing widespread water outages amid a planned five-day water shutdown scheduled from July 21 to July 25. In a water service update issued today, the municipality reported that key reservoirs supplying the city are at low levels. Point A reservoir is at approximately 0%, and Point B is at around 6% capacity. Water is not currently being pumped from Point B to C, which affects downstream zones as well. Point C's reservoir stands at about 51%, Point D at 59%, and Point E at 50%. Due to these low levels, multiple areas are already experiencing low water pressure or no supply at all. Areas affected in the Point A zone include portions of Emalahleni Extension 10, Blancheville, Marelden, Klarinet Extensions, Pine Ridge, portions of Thushanang, Old Coronation, and Emalahleni Correctional Services. Areas in the Point B supply zone facing shortages include Die Heuwel Proper, portions of the Emalahleni CBD, Emalahleni Extensions 1 to 12, Die Heuwel Extension 8, Saveways Crescent Shopping Centre, Del Judor Proper, and Die Heuwel Extension 1. Additional areas served by the B to C reservoir experiencing disruptions are portions of Emalahleni Extensions 16, 18, and 41; Tasbet Park Extensions 2, 3, and 6; Duvha Park Proper; and Duvha Park Extensions 1, 2, 7, and 8. You have an extra week to fill up all your containers as the water shutdown is scheduled to start on July 21 Read more here: #emalahleni #Water #witbank — WitbankNews (@WitbankN) July 14, 2025 Further compounding the crisis, a major leak along the R104 near the diesel depot has caused the municipality to isolate the water supply to KwaGuqa New Extensions (Ezinambeni), KwaMntunzi Vilakazi, Transalloys, and Elandsfontein Mine. Repair teams are currently on-site draining the system in preparation for repairs. Residents are urged to monitor official channels for further updates as the situation develops.
