John Bolton's plan to reverse Trump's Western Sahara decision with business incentives
Referring to Trump's once-ambitious—and since abandoned—plan to turn Gaza into the «French Riviera of the Middle East», Bolton suggested to the Polisario and Algerian authorities that «Western Sahara has a vast Atlantic coastline. I can envision hotel complexes and casinos».
He went on to say, «If Trump is convinced that his Trump Corporation could win a concession in the region to develop hotel resorts, it might catch his interest and lead him to support a referendum».
For context, back in 2002, Bachir Mustapha Sayed proposed offering the United States a military base in the Sahara in exchange for recognition of the so-called «SADR», once the conflict had been resolved in the Polisario's favor. The move resulted in his prolonged marginalization.
Today, the idea of incentivizing Trump to shift his position on the Sahara appears to be gaining traction in Algeria. Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui's government recently introduced a bill in Parliament allowing foreign investors to hold up to 80% of the capital in untapped hydrocarbon and mining projects, thereby reducing the share of state-owned enterprises to just 20%. Meanwhile, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune hosted delegations from American oil giants Chevron and ExxonMobil on June 23 and 24.

French-Moroccan student faces charges for hacking Paris-Dauphine profiles with Palestinian flag
Motawassim L., a 22-year-old French-Moroccan computer science master's student at Paris-Dauphine University, is facing charges for altering the intranet profiles of 18 students on October 7, 2024. He allegedly replaced their profile photos with a Palestinian flag and the slogan «Free Palestine». According to Le Monde, the cyberattack, carried out from his family home in Saint-Denis, targeted students identified as members of the Dauphine chapter of the Union of Jewish Students (UEJF). At a court hearing on Friday, July 11, the public prosecutor requested a five-month suspended prison sentence and mandatory participation in a citizenship program at the Shoah Memorial. While the main charge is «fraudulent modification of data», civil parties—including LICRA and the Union of Jewish Students of France—have called for the act to be qualified with the aggravating circumstance of antisemitism. They argue that both the selection of targets and the timing point to a deliberate attack based on religious affiliation. Motawassim L. denies any antisemitic intent. He described his actions as a political statement made «in a moment of emotion… in reaction to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza», and insisted it was not driven by hate. «It was more of a political act, in the context of student protests», he said, explaining that he selected the profiles based on visible interactions on UEJF's Instagram page. His defense team argued that emotional context should not distort the legal interpretation of the incident. His lawyer, Vincent Brengarth, cautioned against framing the case as overly symbolic. «It is not this court's role to make up for the events of October 7», he said, as reported by Le Parisien.

New Morocco-Saudi Shipping Line to Benefit Over 100 Moroccan Exporters
Rabat – More than 100 Moroccan companies are set to benefit from a planned direct shipping line between Morocco and Saudi Arabia. This line aims to deepen trade ties by offering exporters faster and more efficient access to the Saudi market. According to Khalid Benjelloun, president of the Moroccan-Saudi Business Council, the shipping line is designed to reduce transit time for goods from four weeks to just four days, making Moroccan products more competitive in Saudi Arabia. Benjelloun noted that economic relations between the two nations have improved significantly in recent years, with growing trade volumes and joint investments. The proposed shipping line, he said, is a strategic step forward, supporting Moroccan businesses — particularly in industries like fresh food, automobiles, sugar, and textiles — to better serve Saudi demand. While initial studies indicate that the shipping line may not be profitable in its first years of operation, Benjelloun emphasized its long-term benefits in strengthening bilateral trade. Feasibility studies for the project are expected to be completed by the end of this year, paving the way for the operational phase. The shipping line is projected to benefit more than 100 Moroccan companies currently exporting or planning to export to Saudi Arabia, offering them a faster, more reliable route and opening new opportunities to expand their reach in the Gulf region. Morocco and Saudi Arabia are stepping up efforts to strengthen their bilateral cooperation, with a focus on key economic, trade, and investment sectors that could drive mutual growth and regional development.
