Man crushed to death while trying to board PMPML bus in Hadapsar
A 56-year-old man tragically lost his life after being crushed under a Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) bus while attempting to board it in the Hadapsar area, said officials on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Prakash Rambhau Gaikwad, 56, a resident of Nalvandi in Beed. The incident was reported on April 30, and he died on May 1 during medical treatment.
After the completion of the last rituals, on Monday, his son, Babasaheb Gaikwad, filed a police complaint against the bus driver at Hadapsar police station.
According to preliminary information, Gaikwad landed in Pune from Beed and was going to his relatives and was trying to catch an Aundh bus from Hadapsar. He reportedly lost his balance and fell under the rear wheels.
Altaf Sheikh, police sub-inspector at Hadapsar police station, said, 'He might have boarded in the wrong bus as a result of while deboarding the bus he accidentally fell and came under wheels of the bus.''
According to Sheikh, as per the police complaint filed by the relatives of the deceased, they have booked the bus driver, Navnath Kamble.
A case has been filed against the PMPML bus driver under sections 281,106 BNS and sections 184/177 of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Jailed for assault on minor, accused arrested for stabbing her father to death
A joint team of the surveillance cell, crime unit of DCP (north zone) and Aliganj police arrested an individual booked under POCSO Act within 24 hours after he allegedly killed a man in a revenge attack, authorities said. The incident took place in Shivlok Triveni Nagar-3 within Aliganj police station limits on June 4. According to police, Anuj Kashyap (21), a resident of a village in Mal (Malihabad), was arrested near Naya Pakka Pul in Madehganj. A knife, an iron pipe, and a white scooter (UP32 KY7562) were recovered from his possession. The scooter was also seized under Section 207 of the Motor Vehicle Act for lack of valid documents. 'On June 4, the accused allegedly barged into the rented home of Babulal (42) and stabbed him to death. The victim's wife filed an FIR, alleging that the attack stemmed from an old enmity,' DCP (north) Gopal Krishna Choudhary said. Investigations revealed that Anuj Kashyap had earlier been booked at the Aliganj police station in 2024 for kidnapping and sexually assaulting the complainant's minor daughter. The FIR was registered under sections 87/65(1), 137(2) of the BNS and sections 5/6 of the POCSO Act. Anuj was imprisoned and recently released from jail,' according to a police statement. After he came out of jail, the accused allegedly stabbed the father of the minor girl to death to avenge his incarceration. Acting swiftly, the Aliganj police launched a manhunt and nabbed the accused within 24 hours. Based on the latest complaint, the accused was booked under Section 103(1) of the BNS, the statement added. The accused has been sent to judicial custody, while police are seeking further information about his possible criminal background from other districts.

Heavy vehicles mock no-entry curbs, trigger 192 accidents in city last year
Nagpur: The back-to-back incidents of heavy vehicles ramming into newly-installed height barriers at Shaheed Gowari flyover or Sitabuldi flyover within three days have drawn attention to a bigger problem. These heavy vehicles ply in the city, often dangerously, by brazenly flouting the no-entry restriction. The traffic department catches around 55 such heavy vehicles on average daily, but hundreds go unchecked. As per the traffic department data, heavy vehicles were involved in 192 accidents in 2024, while more than 21,000 actions were taken against them for violating the no-entry rule in the last 16 months. Heavy vehicles are allowed entry in the city from 9pm to 6am and 12 noon to 4pm. While vehicles carrying essential supplies are allowed 24x7, some heavy vehicles are given permissions for specific purposes only during the no-entry timing. However, many vehicles do not even take permissions from the traffic department. The traffic department registered 14,634 cases against heavy vehicle drivers for violating the no-entry rules under sections 119/177 of the Motor Vehicle Act last year. This year, between January and April, 6,602 cases were registered against heavy vehicles. "Our officials cannot check every heavy vehicle plying in the city, so a permanent fix is needed to curb this problem," said a traffic officer. TOI has regularly reported how heavy vehicles plying on city's roads are causing accidents, endangering lives. A senior traffic officer acknowledged the issue and said, "Commissioner of police Ravinder Singal and Jt CP have taken cognizance of the matter and will soon convene a high-level meeting to decide an overall policy about the entry of heavy vehicles in the city." Several citizens have demanded strict enforcement of the no-entry rule for heavy vehicles. "These heavy vehicles that ply on city roads are a menace. Every time a heavy vehicle passes beside a two-wheeler, the rider loses control, and this can lead to an accident. Also, heavy vehicles ply even on internal roads and small lanes, raising chances of accidents," said Shashwat Upadhyay, a citizen.
