WWE SummerSlam 2025 Results As CM Punk Beats Gunther, Seth Rollins Cashes In

Forbes3 days ago
WWE SummerSlam 2025 marked a dream match for the ages as CM Punk battled Gunther for Raw's most prestigious title, the World Heavyweight Championship.
Punk earned the right to face 'The Ring General' at WWE's summer spectacle by winning a 5-man gauntlet match on Raw a few weeks ago, outlasting some of the red brand's top stars, including Bron Breakker and Jey Uso. With Gunther finally moving on from his long-running feud with Uso, he and Punk clashed in a highlightly anticipated match in MetLife Stadium.
Despite reports that Seth Rollins would return from his injury hiatus to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase, there was no sign of 'The Visionary' in New Jersey. Instead, Gunther and Punk battled it out in an instant classic for the coveteed World Heavyweight title.
But in the end, only one man stood tall. Well, two actually.
WWE SummerSlam 2025 Results For Gunther vs. CM Punk
At WWE SummerSlam 2025, CM Punk accomplished something that he hadn't done in more than a decade: he became world champion.
The beloved babyface battled it out with Gunther in a match that was, as you might expect, absolutely fantastic. Some of the key moments in the match were:
On more than one occasion, it looked like Gunther would hand Punk yet another marquee loss as 'The Voice of the Voiceless' attempted once again to win that elusive world championship in WWE. But, with the crowd firmly in his corner, Punk was able to blast Gunther with a second GTS for the win and recement himself as the top dog on the red brand.
The win was Punk's first world title victory in WWE since he won the WWE Championship back in 2011 and held onto it until January 2013. But just minutes after winning an epic match, Seth Rollins' music hit, and he came out to spoil the party.
Sporting a knee brace, Rollins made his entrance, removed the knee brace, sprinted to the ring, attacked Punk with the Money in the Bank briefcase and officially cashed in his guaranteed world title shots. One Stomp later, and Rollins is the new World Heavyweight Champion.
WWE SummerSlam 2025 Results: What's Next for Gunther and CM Punk?
Rollins has been a thorn in the side of CM Punk essentially since Punk's improbable return at Survivor Series in November 2023. And after Rollins' WWE SummerSlam cash-in, that clearly isn't changing anytime soon.
Heading into SummerSlam, there were plenty of questions about whether Rollins' injury was legitimate and when his return might take place. At SummerSlam Saturday, fans got their answer when Rollins became World Heavyweight Champion, and perhaps more importantly, preventing Punk from leaving MetLife Stadium as champ.
Rollins had, time and time again, vowed that he would not let Punk become world champion for the long haul, and he lived up to that promise in New Jersey. Well, at least after Punk's five-minute 'reign.'
Punk's big win at SummerSlam 2025 received a raucous reaction from the MetLife crowd, thanks in part to a spectacular match against Gunther. But as Rollins and Punk have remained at odds for the past two years, the stage is again set for Punk and Rollins to resume their epic rivalry, only this time with Raw's biggest prize on the line.
So, where does that leave Gunther? Well, for essentially the first time ever during his main roster stint, Gunther should step away from the world title picture for an extended period. In fact, it appears that Gunther could be stepping away from WWE altogether. 'The Ring General' reportedly has a nose injury that is expected to result in the now former world champion taking a hiatus from WWE.
That's well deserved for Gunther, who has now put over both Punk and Jey Uso over the past several months. His match with Punk at SummerSlam was an instant classic, and his potential hiatus is much deserved. That clears the way for a heated World Heavyweight Championship feud between Rollins and Punk on Raw.
And rest assured that after Rollins successfully cashed in at WWE SummerSlam, Punk vs. Rollins should be even more heated this time around.

NFL suspends Vikings' Jordan Addison for 3 games over DUI case

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison was suspended for three games by the NFL on Tuesday for violating the league's personal conduct policy for a drunken driving case last year. Addison avoided a trial by pleading no contest to a lesser charge last month, after facing two misdemeanor DUIs for his arrest on July 12, 2024, when a California Highway Patrol officer found him asleep in his vehicle that was blocking a lane on an interstate exit near Los Angeles International Airport. Addison will be permitted to practice and play in exhibition games before the suspension kicks in for games against Chicago, Atlanta and Cincinnati. Addison, the 23rd pick of the 2023 draft, has 19 touchdowns and 1,786 receiving yards in his first two seasons to form a dominant duo with two-time All-Pro Justin Jefferson. But he was arrested for excessive speeding the week before training camp of his rookie year, and the drunken driving arrest last offseason came after another dangerous off-the-field decision. Addison was contrite and remorseful upon reporting to training camp last year, praising the Vikings for their support after he said he was in a 'dark place' after the arrest. Without Addison for the first three games, new starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy will need to lean on depth wide receivers such as Jalen Nailor, rookie Tai Felton and newcomer Rondale Moore if he's ready to play following his ACL rehabilitation. Tight ends T.J. Hockenson and Josh Oliver and running back Aaron Jones also figure to be vital options during Addison's absence to help keep defenses from keying more heavily on Jefferson than they already do. Addison, who finished his college career at USC after starting at Pittsburgh, matched Odell Beckham Jr. for the fourth-most touchdown receptions in league history by players before their 23rd birthday. Randy Moss (28), Rob Gronkowski (27) and Ja'Marr Chase (22) were the only ones with more. ___ AP NFL:

Phillies' reliever Alvarado rejoins team following PED ban, will be eligible later this month

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia Phillies reliever José Alvarado has rejoined the team following an 80-game suspension for violating baseball's performance-enhancing drugs policy. Alvarado was back in Philadelphia before Tuesday night's home game against Baltimore and is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment soon. The Venezuelan left-hander is eligible to return to the big leagues on Aug. 19, but can't pitch in the postseason if the Phillies qualify due to Major League Baseball rules on PED bans. Philadelphia led the NL East by 1 1/2 games over the New York Mets heading into Tuesday's games. 'I am fully aware that using prohibited substances is wrong and I would never intend to do so because I have always had great respect for the game, my organization, my teammates and the fans, all of whom I want to offer my sincere apologies,' Alvarado posted on Instagram. "I made a mistake and therefore, I have faced the consequences set forth by MLB. Going forward, my focus is on working hard to help the team win.' Alvarado was suspended on May 18 following a positive test for an external testosterone. Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said the positive test was caused by a weight loss drug Alvarado took during the offseason. The Phillies used several players in the closer role after Alvarado's suspension before acquiring Jhoan Duran in a trade with Minnesota for two top prospects last week. Alvarado had a 2.70 ERA, 25 strikeouts and seven saves in 20 appearances before the suspension. The 30-year-old will lose $4.5 million, half his $9 million salary this year as part of a $22 million, three-year contract he signed in 2023, as a result of the suspension. Alvarado is 19-26 with a 3.40 ERA in 399 relief appearances and one start over nine major league seasons with Tampa Bay (2017-20) and the Phillies (2021-25). He has 52 saves in 68 appearances and appeared in 21 postseason games over the last three seasons. ___ AP MLB:

Subscribe here and you'll get the web's best stuff in your inbox every week! Welcome to Only Good Internet, where — like a Starbucks barista with brainrot — I serve you a delicious mix of internet content. You might be familiar with the subreddit r/MovieDetails, in which people share little details and Easter eggs from their favorite movies. It's fun! But what I really want to share with you is its evil twin, r/ShittyMovieDetails, which makes me laugh just about every time it pops up in my feed. What's it about, you ask? Well, as the name implies, it's movie details, but shitty. For example: It's true, they were! Related: This one's great: And I know we like to avoid politics here, but this one's a bipartisan issue: Just an excellent joke, TBH. And finally, sometimes the details just raise really good questions: Because really, WTF was up with that, Coop? Related: …That in English, we do this: I love when you discover the reason behind something that you always just kinda knew about your language, and it's like your brain just goes, 'Oh!' (Of course, this might be an English-specific phenomenon, because our language usually feels like it's just based on vibes.) There's this one, too: That's OSASCOMP for short. Related: Basically, I'm always impressed by ANYONE learning English as a second language, because it seems like it would be impossible. There are many things I love about this image — the tiny, rabbit-sized bed, the look of quiet satisfaction on the rabbit's face — but for some reason the use of 'chuffed' is just the cherry on top. Proper chuffed, even! Do you ever stop to think about how the advancement of technology is making us safer and improving people's critical thinking skills? Yeah, me neither: I mean, I guess this is a great way to catch terrorists who are stuck in some kind of Liar Liar situation because their son made a wish on his birthday cake. Related: I always like to finish every week by leaving you with a little something that I can't get out of my head. This week, it's all about pigeons: — Code switching as a toddler? — This is cool as hell — Strangers naming people's pets is so entertaining — That's it. That's exactly what it's like — I have not fact-checked this, but I SO hope it's true That's all for this week, see you later!
