Range-bound trading likely as OI bases shifting lower bands
Coming to the Put side, maximum Put OI is seen at 24,000PE followed by 25,000/ 24,500/ 24,800/ 25,500/ 25,400/ 24,600/ 24,700/ 24,200 strikes. Further, 25,000/ 25,200/ 24,900/ 22,950/ 24,800/ 24,700 strikes recorded moderate addition of Put OI. Put ITM strikes in the 23,350-25,800 range witnessed moderate Put OI fall.
Dhirender Singh Bisht, associate vice-president (technical research-equity) at SMC Global Securities Ltd, said: 'In the derivatives market, prominent Call Open Interest for Nifty seen at the 25,500 and 25,300 strike, while the notable Put Open Interest was at the 25,000 and 25,200 strike. For Bank Nifty, the prominent Call Open Interest was seen at the 57,000 strike, whereas notable Put Open Interest at the 56,000 strike.'
The continued range bound move and selling observed at higher levels. Highest Call writing is is placed at 25,500 strike. Major Put base is visible and 24,000 holds meaningful OI for the coming weekly expiry. Hence, only a move below 25,200 may trigger intermediate profit booking, but overall sentiment remains positive and Nifty is likely to move towards 25600/25800 levels.
'Uncertainty surrounding the trade deal between India and the US has made traders and investors cautious in the market. Some profit booking at higher levels was seen last week, leading to the market closing in the red. The Nifty underperformed, ending the week with a loss of around 1.25 per cent, while the Bank Nifty declined by nearly 0.5 per cent on the weekly chart. Major losses were seen in Indian defence, IT and capital market stocks, whereas FMCG and private bank stocks showed relative outperformance on a weekly basis,' added Bisht.
For the week ended July 13, 2025, BSE Sensex closed at 82,500.47 points, a fall of 932.42 points or 1.11 per cent, from the previous week's (July 5) closing of 83,432.89 points. NSE Nifty too declined by 311.15 points or 1.22 per cent to 25,149.85 points from 25,461 points a week ago.
Bisht forecasts: 'Currently, both Nifty and Bank Nifty are trading above their long-term exponential moving averages and are near to their rollover levels. The Nifty futures rollover range is 25,200–25,300, while for Bank Nifty, it is 56,600–56,700. The outlook remains 'buy on dips' as long as both indices stay above these rollover levels. For Nifty, the psychological support is at 25,000, followed by 24,800, while resistance is placed at 25,500–25,600 zone.' India VIX rose 1.24 per cent to 11.82 level. India VIX continues under pressure owing to continued range-bound trading and closed at the lowest levels seen since September.
Bank Nifty
Bank Nifty NSE's banking index closed the week at 56,754.70 points, 277.20 or 0.48 per cent lower from the previous week's closing of 57,031.90 points.

Higher US tariffs may trim India's GDP growth by 30 bps: Barclays
The 25 per cent US tariffs, plus a penalty for Russian imports, could dent India's GDP growth by 30 basis points in the current fiscal, but the higher duty is unlikely to significantly affect India's domestic demand-driven economy, Barclays said on Thursday. If the 25 per cent tariff, announced by US President Donald Trump on Wednesday, is implemented from August 1, the effective average US import tariff on Indian goods will rise to 20.6 per cent in trade-weighted terms, as per Barclays estimates. This is sharply higher than both the pre 'liberation day' tariff rate of 2.7 per cent and the 90-day pause tariff rate of 11.6 per cent. In contrast, India's import tariff on US goods is lower, at 11.6 per cent in trade-weighted terms. Barclays said that given the relatively closed nature of the Indian economy, wherein domestic demand is the mainstay of growth. "We do not see this 25 per cent tariff threat impacting GDP growth meaningfully, pegging the likely impact at 30 bp. We expect final tariffs on India to settle in lower than the announced 25 per cent, as India and the US continue with trade deal talks," it said. Indian economy is projected to grow at 6.5 per cent by the Reserve Bank-- same as last fiscal, while the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) peg growth at 6.4 per cent and 6.5 per cent respectively. At 25 per cent, tariffs on India are higher than EM Asian peers, but Barclays expect final tariffs to settle lower as trade deal talks progress. Echoing similar views, Moody's Analytics Associate Economist Aditi Raman said while the US is India's largest trade partner, the Indian economy is relatively more domestically oriented than most of the region and relies far less on trade. "Pharmaceuticals, gems, and textiles are key sectors that are likely to be hit. A point of contention is market access to the key agricultural and dairy sector, which India has historically been reluctant to grant," Raman said. Barclays further said, India is already diversifying its sources of oil supply. Should the additional 'penalty' threat materialise, we expect Indian refiners to pivot towards alternate suppliers, especially as the discount on imports of Russian oil has already narrowed. To diversify its export base, the Indian administration is showcasing a renewed zeal to ink free-trade agreements with other countries and regions. "Amid heightened global trade policy uncertainty, having a pipeline of such bilateral trade agreements is a prudent policy choice," Barclays said. India has recently inked an FTA with the US and the EFTA bloc, and it is negotiating with a number of countries, including the European Union, Oman and New Zealand. The US is India's largest trading partner, accounting for 18 per cent of India's total merchandise exports in 2024. India's USD 80 billion merchandise exports to the US are distributed in sectors which also form India's overall major exports. India's top exports to the US, electrical machinery (USD 12 billion, including smartphones), and gems and jewellery (USD 9 billion) now face tariff increases of just over 24 percentage points, compared with levels before April 2. On the rupee, Barclays said that although more pain is expected in the near term, the drop in INR vis--vis USD still looks overdone. The INR, which had already been under pressure over recent weeks, fell sharply on the tariff news, hitting a low weaker than 87.50 versus USD. "We think the rupee is looking oversold in the short term. Clearly, USDINR has bounced more than anticipated, but we think the February high of just under 88.0 remains a strong resistance level," Barclays said.

Punjab National Bank Q1 results analysis: InCred According to analysts at InCred Equities, PNB's Q1FY26 beat on adjusted profit was due to strong non-core income and lower credit costs, while the core performance missed owing to higher taxes. Additionally, PNB has a few levers to offset margin compression over the next few years. The bank's balance sheet is strong and has optionality from non-core income pools, the brokerage said in a note. InCred has maintained an 'Add' rating on the stock. "We raise our target price to ₹120 (11 per cent upside), implying 0.85x target multiple. The stock appears attractive at 0.75x FY27F BV," it said. Motilal Oswal Financial Services (MOFSL) According to MOFSL, PNB's transition to the new tax regime will be beneficial from the second quarter onwards, with the effective tax rate moderating to 25 per cent. Net interest margins (NIMs) contracted 11 basis points Q-o-Q, though the bank expects improvement from the third quarter onwards. Analysts believe that PNB's business growth remained modest, with management guiding for 11-12 per cent growth for FY26.
