Hunger Games prequel shocks fans as A-list cast is revealed

Daily Record22-05-2025

Hunger Games fans were in a frenzy when the A-list cast lineup was announced for the prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping
The Hunger Games series broke the internet yet again as it revealed the star-studded cast for the upcoming prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping.
The Hunger Games series has been attracting attention online for years, and it has only just gone viral again after author Susan Collins released the prequel - Sunrise on the Reaping - earlier this year.

The story centres on Haymitch Abernathy - famously portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the original films - and delves into his heartbreaking backstory, long before he became the troubled, PTSD-stricken alcoholic we met on screen.

Sunrise on the Reaping is set 24 years before Katniss Everdeen volunteers as tribute for her sister, and 40 years after The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, the prequel that explores the rise of antagonist Coriolanus Snow.
Fans on TikTok, who have dubbed their videos under the hashtag BookTok, have made over 32 million posts highlighting their excitement for the new movie, after reading the novel.
Enthusiasts of the film/book series started to share their own fan castings, and much to their delight, casting director Debra Zane seems to have listened to what fans want.
After reading the book, Elle Fanning, best known for her role in The Great, was a fan-favourite pick to play young Effie Trinket. Now officially announced, the casting has thrilled fans over the globe.

Elle will be taking over for Elizabeth Banks who was the perfect character, portraying the older Effie Trinket in the Hunger Games series, by which time she became the escort and advisor to District 12 tributes Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen and Josh Hutcherson's Peeta Mellark.
According to Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erin Westerman, Elle was an 'undeniable fan favourite.'
He said: From the moment Suzanne released the book, one question echoed from fans around the world: who will play Effie?Elizabeth Banks made her iconic – so who could honour that legacy while bringing us back to Effie's early, most formative days?"

"For us, there was only one answer. Elle Fanning's career has been transcendent. She has a rare presence – warm, sparkling and layered with extraordinary depth."
"She was the undeniable fan favourite from the start, and we're honoured she answered the call. The odds, it turns out, were in our favour," he continued.

Lionsgate film studio also confirmed that Oscar winner Kieran Culkin will also be joining the cast, as the flamboyant and eccentric host Caesar Flickerman. A role which was originally played by Stanley Tucci in the four Hunger Games films.
Speaking about Kieran being casted, Lionsgate's Erin said: "Kieran's scene-stealing presence and undeniable charm are perfect for Caesar Flickerman, the sickeningly watchable host of Panem's darkest spectacle. Stanley Tucci made Caesar unforgettable and now Kieran will make the role entirely his own."

Kieran and Elle are joining other fan favourites. Ralph Fiennes, known for his role as Voldemort in the Harry Potter series, is taking on the role of cunning President Coriolanus Snow - fans are overwhelmed with the pick as Ralph will be playing yet another iconic book series villain.
Fans are extremely excited for the new movie, especially now the star-studded cast has been announced.
They have taken to X, to express their joy, with one fan writing: "We're witnessing greatness the likes of which have never been seen in Hollywood. This casting director is operating at a level that warrants a Nobel prize. I will be so seated for this film I will see it a minimum three times. Immediately film of the year."
As a second humorously stated: "Is this what Capitol citizens feel like when their tribute wins because oh my god."
"Not sure what's more impressive," another fan said, "the fans envisioning the perfect cast, or the casting director actually making it happen."

Freddy Brazier 'skips brother Bobby's family birthday bash' amid feud with dad Jeff - as he admits he's 'sad all the time' in new TikTok video following mental health battle

Freddy Brazier has reportedly skipped his brother Bobby's birthday bash amid his feud with dad Jeff Brazier over his relationship with grandmother Jackiey Budden - as he admitted he's sad in a new TikTok video. EastEnders star Bobby turned 22 on June 2, and while other loved ones including his father and step-mum Kate were present, his sibling was noticeably absent. Despite Freddy acknowledging the birthday online, it is said that there was 'sadness' felt by the family that Freddy wasn't there to celebrate in person. Freddy was seen this week smoking suspicious looking cigarettes with Jackiey who he is said to now be living with. A source told The Sun: 'It was a really nice family occasion but everyone really missed Freddie. 'He was of course invited but he is making his feelings quite clear at the moment about who he wants to be spending time with.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. They added: 'He did acknowledge that Bobby's birthday online but there was some sadness that he wasn't there with his brother.' MailOnline have contacted representatives of Freddie for comment. Meanwhile, Freddie sparked concern after he shared a TikTok implying he's 'sad all the time'. A clip featuring personal photos containing images including brother Bobby and late mum Freddie, featured words that read: 'I feel sad all the time. I'm not the person I was!' The video, set to a heartbreaking audio of a man expressing his sadness, Freddie's video continued with statements from the audio which said: 'I lost most of me and all the good stuff, all the happiness enjoying, I feel like I'm nothing you know?' 'People think I'm sort of OK you know? Like, I'm getting on with it, I'm snarky now and get, and this is a lapse. But it's not! This is me all the time now. 'I'm not well but I remember what it was like to be normal so I do an impression of that. 'But this is what I really am and I want to be normal again. But I'm weak you know?' Captioning his post, Freddie penned: 'As a man, I bottle up my emotions and hide my feelings away. I rarely let them out to play. With all that's going on in the media right now emotions are high. Feelings are being felt and thoughts are being heard and played out.' He then asked his male followers how they were mentally and urged them to speak out about how they felt and what's 'hurting them'. His post was met with a plethora of supportive messages from fans. It was revealed last month that Jeff is taking action in an attempt to legally block contact between Freddy and the mother of the late Big Brother star Jackiey Budden amid concerns over his welfare. Jeff, shared both Freddy, 20, and Strictly's Bobby with the late Jade Goody who tragically died in 2009 from cervical cancer aged just 27. Jeff has hired a leading barrister for the upcoming hearing which is the latest in part of a long-running feud between Jackiey and Jeff. Speaking to MailOnline from her ground floor flat in Bermondsey, south east London, last month, Jackiey hit out at the proceedings. She said: 'I know what this is all about. It (the situation with Jeff) doesn't matter. It doesn't matter.' She asked: 'Do I want to see Freddy? Of course I do. I see Freddy all of the time. I will see him.' One neighbour said: 'I feel sorry for Jackiey. She's been through so much. It's a complex situation. I just hope they can be all together again as a family. Her grandchildren mean the world to her.' They added: 'How did it come to this that lawyers are apparently involved? She wants to be the best gran she can be to those boys.' It was reported that Jeff has launched legal action in a bid to keep Freddy 'safe' from Jackiey. According to The Sun Jeff is now attempting to block any contact between his youngest son and grandmother, 68, claiming the relationship has been 'incredibly detrimental'. He is also said to have hired a top barrister for the upcoming hearings with a source insisting Jeff's actions prove just how 'concerned' he is.

Clarkson's Farm: Harriet responds to 'awkward' Kaleb Cooper

Cooper has been Jeremy Clarkson's right-hand man since the show first hit screens in 2021. He was instantly a hit with fans, but now appears to have been 'replaced'. Cowan was introduced as the temporary replacement of farm manager Cooper on Diddly Farm. The full-time nurse, who recently urged viewers to 'be kind' following her appearance on the show, was recruited due to Cooper's professional commitments elsewhere. The newly minted millionaire is busy touring a one-man show after finding fame on the Prime Video series. Just started #ClarksonsFarm4 and Harriet is an instant hit with me. I'm sorry but Kaleb might have to start looking for new employment lol Fans of the show couldn't help but notice Cooper appeared rather unimpressed with Cowan upon their introduction when he returned to the Oxfordshire location. Jeremy Clarkson himself pointed out that Cooper needed to be kind to Cowan, telling him: 'Right, now, that's Harriet. Now be nice – behave.' Cooper then stood watching Cowan in silence as she worked, sarcastically questioning her farming skills, with Clarkson chiding him for his attitude. Recommended reading: Cowan has now assured viewers that she gets on with Cooper, and said that they have even become friends away from the cameras. During an appearance on BBC Derby, Cowan, who has a big following on TikTok, said: 'Kaleb's amazing. Me and him are so close now. He's such a good farmer and we got on really well.' She continued: 'He's another farmer to add to my phone list to ring. Everyone checks in to make sure everyone's fine.'

Love Island needs to stop casting influencers and 20-year-olds – we know why they're on there and it undermines the show

Here's why I am falling out of love with Love Island... FAME GAME Love Island needs to stop casting influencers and 20-year-olds – we know why they're on there and it undermines the show WE'RE about to jump head first into another long hot summer, brimming with bikinis, fire pit chats and cringe new slogans, with the sultry tones of Iain Stirling's 'tonight… on Love Island' wafting through our living rooms. And while that might spark excitement for diehard fans like me, there's also a creeping sense of deja vu - because once again, despite vocal feedback from viewers, we're getting the same recycled formula: a villa full of 20-somethings and influencers. 7 We're about to jump head first into another long hot summer, brimming with bikinis, fire pit chats and cringe new slogans Credit: Instagram 7 Many of this year's Islanders have sizeable social followings Credit: instagram/sophirelee 7 Olivia and Alex were a success story - but an Insta following wasn't a guarantee on their series Credit: Rex This year's summer Love Island cast is a who's who of social media stars. There's from Sophie Lee's popular Instagram account, Helena Ford's travel diaries, and TikTok personalities Megan Forte Clarke and Aaron Buckett. Megan Moore and Rose Selway also boast impressive followings - the latter rubbing shoulders with Love Island alum, thanks to her celeb-favourite tweakment clinic. And then there are the 20-year-old's among the cast, who are apparently 'looking for love,' on the show. Now I'm not saying you can't fall in love and meet 'the one' at 20 - Olivia Bowen was just 22 when she met her now-husband Alex Bowen, and Love Island superstars Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury were only 21 when their jacuzzi date turned into one of the show's most iconic love stories. But things were different then. Love Island wasn't a guaranteed career launchpad. A deal with PLT was a bonus, not a certainty. Now, those going on the show have seen the roadmap to fame paved before them, and enter the villa with eyes on the prize - and the prize is not love. Frankly, there really aren't enough success stories to say that casting 20-year-olds on the show is a winning formula. In fact, Love Island is more likely to move to Canvey Island at this rate, than it is to find a couple of 20-year-olds who put all their eggs in each other's baskets. So doesn't it feel a bit odd that we're all sat, every night from 9-10pm, investing all our time into people who, let's face it, are on the show to further their followings, and not to recreate a storyline out of a Nicholas Sparks novel? Would it not be more rewarding to watch people in their 30s, - those who may be genuinely starting to question if love is still out there- given a real shot at finding their someone? It would surely make the show a lot more relatable for a lot of people, instead of seeing influencers sling one-liners at each other on a Balinese bed, before heading into the outside world to land a situationship and a podcast deal. And nostalgia for the old Love Island is running high on social media. Viewers seem keen to bring it back to the days of construction workers and fishmongers walking onto our screens, not people who are friends of a friend with an Islander, or have famous football star dads and brand deals lined up. Love Island 2025 cast revealed as footballer, actress and beauty influencer who cheated death sign up But let's be honest, you can hardly blame the 20-year-olds and influencers for going on to the show. Of course, given half the chance, they're going to want to further their careers on the UK's biggest dating output. You'd take one look at Molly-Mae's business empire and flashy mansion, Olivia Attwood fronting huge TV shows, and Tasha Ghouri strutting her stuff on Strictly and think, I want a slice of that. And if you're presented with a stepping stone to pop you closer to fortune and fame, wouldn't you jump onto it? Still, it's starting to undermine what Love Island was originally about. It's less of a search for soulmates, and more a talent pipeline for the next PrettyLittleThing ambassador or social media star, as opposed to sourcing the UK's most enviable romance story. But then you could also argue, if it's not broken don't fix it? I just worry that it will become broken, that people are starting to fall out of love with the island of love. As a huge fan of the show, I'm not ready to switch off just yet. But I no longer watch with rose tinted glasses, I watch with a lot more scepticism than I once did, which is a shame. I find myself trying to decipher between showmance and serious, instead of sitting back and enjoying the chaos of it all. And I guess the big question is, can Love Island ever get back to how it once was? Can people still find true love over fame? Well we could at least give it the best chance to prevail by choosing age and career wisely when casting. Maybe then we could rekindle that magic of the earlier seasons, you know, the ones that made Love Island iconic in the first place. 7 Are people starting to fall out of love with the show? 7 Contestants aren't wrong for wanting to find success on the show Credit: Instagram 7 Can people still find true love over fame?
