Meta makes a home on Threads for 'fediverse' posts
on Tuesday gave posts from apps or servers synched to the "
fediverse
" a dedicated feed at
Threads
, its challenge to the X platform originally known as Twitter.
The fediverse allows users to stay in one platform to look at cross-platform content -- which means Meta gets to keep users on their product to view content posted to
Mastodon
or other participating platforms, and vice versa.
Meta also added the ability to search for profiles at platforms in the fedivserse from within the Threads app.

"Our new search feature and dedicated fediverse feed help you discover more perspectives from people outside of Threads," Meta said in a blog post.
"You don't have to miss out on anyone's posts just because they happen to post on different platforms."
Live Events
Threads embraced the fediverse about a year ago, allowing users to see posts from accounts they follow at other connected platforms, such as Mastadon, Bookwyrn, WriteFreely and others.

"This allows you to see a broader range of views, no matter where they're posted," Meta said, adding "and we hope others will join as time goes on."
Threads was among the
social networks
that took interest in being more open as Twitter users sought alternatives after billionaire
Elon Musk
bought that platform in late 2022.
Meta described the fediverse as an open global network of interconnected, yet independent, social media servers, each with its own users, content and rules.
Meta compared it to the way people using different email services are able to message one another because platforms conform to common protocols behind the scenes.
Unlike email, though, shared posts are public.
"The new fediverse feed and the ability to search for fediverse users in Threads are one more step in our journey to make this social platform fully interoperable," Meta said.
"We'll continue to collaborate with developers and policymakers to make progress in this space."

Elon Musk's Starlink partners with UIDAI, to use Aadhaar authentication for customer verification
Satellite internet service provider Starlink, led by billionaire Elon Musk, will implement Aadhaar authentication to verify customers in India before onboarding them, news agency PTI reported, citing an official statement. The government has approved Starlink to begin offering satellite-based broadband services within the country. "The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has onboarded satellite-based internet provider Starlink Satellite Communication Pvt Ltd. Starlink will use Aadhaar Authentication for customer verification, which will make the entire process smooth, secure and very easy," the statement was quoted. According to an official estimate, Starlink currently has the capacity to onboard approximately 20 lakh customers in India. "Starlink's onboarding with Aadhaar authentication signifies a powerful synergy: India's trusted digital identity joining hands with global satellite technology. Aadhaar e-KYC will facilitate the onboarding of users seamlessly, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while delivering high-speed internet to households, businesses, and institutions," the statement said. Starlink Satellite Communication was appointed a sub-authentication user agency and sub-eKYC user agency in the presence of UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar, UIDAI Deputy Director General Manish Bhardwaj, and Starlink India Director Parnil Urdhwareshe. Starlink has collaborated with Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio to offer its services within the country.

Starlink Price in India: Company Partners With UIDAI To Streamline Verification
Last Updated: UIDAI has onboarded Starlink Satellite Communication Pvt Ltd for Aadhaar authentication. Starlink, a SpaceX venture, will offer satellite internet in India. Starlink Price In India: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has onboarded Starlink Satellite Communication Pvt Ltd, enabling the satellite-based internet provider to use Aadhaar authentication for customer verification. With this integration, Starlink customers will be able to complete their Know Your Customer (KYC) process through Aadhaar e-authentication, making onboarding quick, secure, and paperless. Elon Musk's Starlink earlier officially got licence to begin satellite-based broadband services in India. The approval for satcom services, issued by the Ministry of Telecommunications, paved the way for SpaceX's ambitious satellite internet project to operate alongside existing licence holders, i.e. Reliance Jio and OneWeb. Starlink, a venture by Musk's aerospace company SpaceX, is not your conventional internet service provider. It bypasses the limitations of fibre optics and cellular towers by beaming internet directly from a constellation of small satellites orbiting Earth at altitudes between 500 and 2,000 kilometres. These satellites connect with a compact dish antenna installed at a user's home or office, which then relays internet via a router. Starlink's projected speed range – 50 to 250 Mbps – may outperform existing mobile networks, especially in underserved zones. Unlike mobile internet, it does not rely on a telecom signal and functions independently. For many rural areas without even 3G access, this could mean a leapfrog to cutting-edge internet. Starlink had previously launched pre-orders in India back in 2021, but without obtaining regulatory approval. This prompted a government warning and forced the company to pause operations. Now, with all clearances in place, it is set for an official and full-fledged launch in 2025. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
